  1. It's in Cauruthersville. in SE Missouri. It's a long way from STL, and even longer from LOZ, but is 100% crappie seminars, There were a lot of pro's and good advise. Grizzly Jig is not a huge store, but probably 70% is dedicated to crappie fishermen, and the rest is for Catfishing and boating accessories and electronics. It goes on for a few days, I would imagine they will post a seminar schedule in a few weeks. Last year was my first time, I think this has been going on for 10+ yrs. The town is small, about the only thing to do after the show is visit the Casino boat thats real close to the store. http://grizzlyjig.com/
  2. jan 23-26 Grizzly Jig Spring Show Lots of seminars, good sales! Went last year, very good seminars, learned a lot.
  3. Good luck. Let us see some warm water pictures
  4. Our complex has 4 big docks with about 35 - 50 stalls. I'm on one of the middle docks about half way on the inside. I would imagine that was a site to see.
  5. Weren't we headed into the next "ice-age" 15 years ago. Now we are in the "global warming" stage.
  6. Yeah, I'll agree with you about that. Me personally, I never keep anything over 13". No real reason, just what I do. But, for picture purposes, I would sure like to catch me a 16"+ fish, and I want to do it around here!
  7. Man, that's really good! As many fish that I've caught on our lake, I've never had one over 14". This year, as far as avg size, was one of the best yrs I've ever had, yet, I only caught a handful over 13". My wife caught a 14 in this spring time, but not me. In fact I've never broke the 16" mark ever! Now this is what a lot of people say on my end of the lake,,,,,,, that there are no large crappie on the Niangua arm, and that you got to go up to the main lake to find any size. Don't really believe that, but it does make me wonder a bit. I really gave it my all this year. Now if I have the same results with no 15's this year, then I might be believing their stories. Congrats on those two pigs!
  8. alright. I cancel the skate sharpening!
  9. Dang! Thats right by me. I guess we'll be getting out the hockey equipment here soon. Anyone for a little pond hockey?
  10. Looks a little "summering" to me. I'm just sayin. That being said, them are about 14 inchers. Real Nice!
  11. I'd like to see a pic of your bait set up. I'm always willing to try new things.
  12. So it's better to ask for forgiveness more so than permission.
  13. That's very interesting. I've never been in that situation and never gave it much thought, but being on LOZ I can see that happening. I've never hunted there, would like to try since I have a place down there now. I've chased my share of cripples in my day and always gave every effort to retrieve, no matter what we knocked down. I'm getting older and I've quit taking those long shots, cause I now hunt with 2 younger guys, but they are a bit on the overweight side, so I'm the one that ends being the dog. If I see where it falls, I'll hunt it down. If it sails off, my effort is less diligent, but I will give it a try, Also, if I shoot at a bird and see that it isn't a clean kill, I'll stay on that bird. It's tough for me to get that across to my youngen's. They'll run their shot gun to "E" and might have 3 or 4 birds down and not have a clue to where to start looking. Aggrevates the pee out of me. I hate leaving birds out in the field. It's like cleaning more fish than you'll eat, and having it freezer burn so you'll have to pitch it. Again, thanks for the info on cripples around docks. Never gave that a thought.
  14. Nice job on the two limits of that size. Over thanksgiving I had one over 10 and one over 13". All the rest were under 9 1/2". The big one came way under a dock only about a couple feet down. Most of the rest were down around 8-12'. I would imagine it may get a little tougher over the next few weeks.
  15. That's fantastic!!!! Love them eyes! Congrats! Good Trip!
  16. Your right, it is a black crappie, i had been catching white crappie all week. That was the largest of the last 4 days. We caught only one other about 11", all the others were under 10". Yesterday the bite was a bit more aggressive.
  17. I really thought today would be on fire, but it was kind of tough. Caught only a few all day, the biggest was 9.5", maybe a half dozen at 9", until 4:40 pm, shot way under a dock and hooked a nice 13+" white crappie. Not much else.
  18. All work no play makes stuartsx5 a dull boy. Now look where it got you. But then again, most of Nov I've been helping my daughter and her family move to Columbia. So ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
  19. Long time ago, used to catch a lot of bass, 13-14 inchers on small crankbaits. It was mainly early and late in the middle of summer. Used to be a lot of moss and would throw the cranks around the perimeter of the moss pockets. I do remember catching one over 5 lb on a spinnerbait right at dark. The only crappie I remember, was a friend of mine caught a very big crappie on a spinnerbait. It's been 20 plus years since I've been there. I might be wrong but at that time it was electric motors only and I think they had some boats there you could use. I think now, there's no boats available and you can have up to a 10 hp or run your big motor at idle speed.
  20. I'm actually at cedar glen, I fished up by bridal cave, a little disappointing compared with a couple of weeks ago. Fished it hard this afternoon, not much luck. Most of my fish came between the 11 & 12 mm, on main lake docks. Early it was blue/ chartuese, later in the day it was electric chicken with a pink 16 oz head. Got to really watch you line, I couldn't even feel the bite.
  21. Bite wasn't bad. Not great, but it was really nice out today. I kept five over 10". Caught a decent amount between 9 & 10. Fish were about 6-8' down. No black crappie, all whites.
  22. Came in to warm up and get some more coffee. Can't get em to bite on jigs, catching a few on minnows. Most have been under 9".
  23. For me its a matter of wants over needs. I really want a new (er) boat, but I really don't need it. My 17.5' Fisher does the job. And hey, where I'm at on LOZ, I can pretty much fish all year. Yeah, it can get rough between the holidays, but I'm usually done on the weekends by 9am and not back out until after dinner. But I really WANT a new one.
  24. YEAH BABY!
  25. Gonna be a little chilli this weekend, but, what the hay! Gotta try it. Just hope its not windy like last weekend.
