  1. 1. Yes. Public land. Don't know what the hunting regs are. 2. It's pretty fast. But there are lots of stretches of slower water between the ripples. It's not very deep. 3. No. Jet boats can get all the way past Greer. That being, said, I doubt jet boats on that stretch will be much of an issue for you.
  2. That is very disappointing to hear. I love that little creek.
  3. Nice report. Enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing.
  4. HAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA. Your loss is our gain. *wipes a tear* Thanks for sharing.
  5. Showers and running water are optional. More interested in a quiet, private campsite.
  6. My wife are planning a two-night camping trip in Oct. We usually like to camp down at Greer on the 11pt, but we'd like to explore the Emminence area this time. Can you all make any camping recommendations for us? We'll be tent camping and prefer some privacy to the campsite. We'll also be doing a 1-day fishing float on the Current Rivers on kayaks.
  7. Does anyone know where I can buy flies like this? Or can anyone point me to a pattern to tie them myself? It looks a lot like a popper, but the head was weighted and sunk a little bit.
  8. A lot of vendors will send you a replacement tip for a fee.
  9. What trip are you thinking would be good for a 50-miler? Would there be enough places along the way to camp (for free, like along the banks)? Would there be enough places along the way to dump trash as part of their service project? And, are there canoe rental places that might have scout-friendly rates?
  10. Great info guys. Thanks!
  11. Does the upper G have canoe rental services? Can we camp on the banks?
  12. We've done two long float trips with our scout troop on the Eleven Point River. It's tough to get a legitimate 50 miles on this river. However, the EPR provides a remote location with relatively few people, and Brian gives the Scouts a great rental rate. I'm wondering, are there other rivers in Missouri that would be great for 50-mile float trips appropriate for young Scouts? We'd need to cover 50 miles on the water, have location on the banks to stop and camp, get an affordable rate on canoe rentals, and avoid the party floaters as much as possible. We will float from Mon-Fri and try to be off the river early on Saturday. The scouts will be picking up trash all along the way and will practice the principles of Leave No Trace. Please feel free to send me a private message if you prefer.
  13. /signed And I'd like to see the elimination of jet boats on the Eleven Point River, too.
  14. What are your favorite emerger patterns for the Current River? I'd like to learn to tie few proven patterns.
  15. Because the trout in MO are struggling to naturally reproduce for the most part. We leave them alone to do their thing so we have natural, wild trout in the future.
  16. Brian, which type of line from Seaguar do you use for smaller tippet? http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Navigation?storeId=10151&catalogId=10051&langId=-1&searchTerm=seaguar
  17. The canoe trip was a huge success! The boys and leaders had a great time. We caught some fish, explored all of the springs, camped on the "sandbars", and did a lot of swimming and goofing around. I tied them up 100 marabou jigs beforehand, so they had plenty of lures to use. My son caught his first trout and first smallmouth, both on a flyrod. The rain start during the night of our last night, so we timed the trip perfect to avoid the flooding. https://plus.google.com/photos/102667900124709882552/albums/5910106114912933425?authkey=CIPDq8bZnbjGDQ
  18. For spooky fish, especially those that see a lot of flies, I would avoid bead-heads and anything else that looks unnatural. You'll want to use 6x or 7x fluorocarbon tippet and keep the line and tippet off the water for dry flies. You'll want to stay behind the fish, avoid casting shadows over them, and sneak of on them. Don't line the fish either (cast over the top of them). Good luck.
  19. Can you explain that in more detail for me, please?
  20. I am taking the Scout troop on our second annual float trip on the EPR from Jul 31-Aug 03. Last year's trip was a great success and the boys are very excited to go again this year. We will be floating from Greer to Riverton. I fly fish and no little to nothing about spin fishing. I have been introducing them to fly fishing, but, due to the cost of acquiring new gear, most of our Scouts will be fishing with spinning tackle. Last year I was not prepared with the proper lures to get them onto some fish. I am looking for some suggestions on what lures to use to maximize their success this year.
  21. Oh, about the stability. I have tried standing and fishing a couple of times. I guess you need to develop "sea legs" because I feel like I'm always on the verge of falling overboard. It does not feel any different to me than standing up in a canoe. I suspect the Cuda 14 is the same way.
  22. I bought mine from The Alpine Shop in Columbia, MO. I had to wait a few unbearable weeks to get the black widow color scheme I wanted. The boat comes with two regular rod holders and one that can hold a fly rod. I'm hoping that the Alpine Shop will replace the two regular rod holders with two that will hold fly rods. In truth tho, I don't use the rod holders that much. I just place the rod down in front of me or to the side. I very rarely fish with more than one rod. When I want to have a rod strung with sinking tip or sinking line, I'll probably use the rod holder to switch back and forth, but that will be rare. On the eleven point I will definitely not be using the rod hodlers, too much for the shore line to catch ahold of. That's there the rod tip cover on this boat will really shine.
  23. I bought a Jackson Cuda 12. It's an amazing water craft. I love it! On one of my first few trips with my new boat I was able to land this pig with a 5-weight fly rod, on 8lbs test, and a surface popper.
