  1. Thanks...looks like I need to see what I am missing.
  2. I have caught spots on the Gasconade but really can't say I have hybrids.......maybe I have and not realized it. But those pictures sure do tell the story. I don't think we have that many around the Vienna part of the Gasconade.
  3. What a beautiful fish!
  4. The only bad thing about this weekend is the big fishing tournament at the lake....they are expecting several hundred boats.
  5. Thanks for the post....I don't know if I have ever seen a hybrid like that. Crazy looking!
  6. Thanks for the report......I find that lake difficult to fish.
  7. Thanks for the update....still makes me nervous to download some of these updates.
  8. All great points Al, I think line size matters...6 lb or less. I still believe in the 5 inch chomper.
  9. I would never think about keeping something that big; but then I never keep anything caught in our Missouri streams. That is why I always bring my camera....pic's then release.
  10. Great pic's! It's been a while since I fished that area but it sure was fun.
  11. I have been fishing that area from Vienna to Paydown for the last 35 years. My family has several acres off of #42 between Vienna and Belle right by the Paydown area. Your right, it can be slow at certain times of the year but I think the fishing is pretty special. Never have kept anything but have numeroues pictures to show for it. What I love about that area is the constant changing of fishing conditions....deep pockets, shallow water, back water, weeds, rocky areas. Every 100 feet and conditions change. I have caught just about every type of fish you can think of around there...crappie, large and smallmouth bass, rock bass, sauger, walleye, whites, catfish, bluegill, spots, you name it. My biggest has been a 21 inch smallmouth but have caught countless number of 15 - 19 inches fish even some monster largemouth. What I would do is rent a john boat from Indian Ford Resort by Vienna and bring a trolling motor and battery to help with those slow stretches. If you do decide to fish that again please let me know and I would be more than happy to draw a map with hot spots to help make your trip more enjoyable. Bob
  12. Good idea......just worry about to many leaves in the water. My jet doesn't like them.
  13. Your right...the 3.5 lb largemouth was a nice fish. Caught several more on it but that one was my biggest. It's been a while since I had thrown a top water bait besides a buzzbait but was pleasantly surprised how well the Sammy worked. I would love to get out on the river one more time this fall.....just need to figure out something around all of the kids activities. I know that largemouth is lurking in the water waiting to be caught again.
  14. Well it was a tuff several days with the rain putting a damper on things. Fished Wednesday before the heavy rains and did fairly well with my new best friend Sammy 100. Second cast with it and a 3.5 lb largemouth. Caught several more on it before the rain started up again. Thursday rained all day...sat around and watched the river muddy up. Friday ended up trout fishing in St. James with the river up and muddy. Saturday fish the river but with the chocolate water you had to put the chomper right in front of their face to get any takers. Still had a great time with my friends even though the fishing was just ok.
  15. I agree....you would be better off buying an inexpensive battery charger.
  16. I have never seen any paddlefish on the Gasconade in my 35 years fishing the river but have seen several huge gars. That would be pretty cool to catch one on the river. Although I would never keep it but would like a picture or two taken with it.
  17. Nice Walleye. Have been fishing the Gasconade for the last 35 years and have caught several Sauger but never a walleye.
  18. Nice Walleye. Have been fishing the Gasconade for the last 35 years and have caught several Sauger but never a walleye.
  19. Thanks....bought a shad and a green colored Sammy 100 today. Figured the 4 inch was about the right size. Looking forward to trying this lure. I will let you know how it works.
  20. I have seen several post about Sammy's....might need to stop and pick one up this weekend. Have never tried a hair jig either. Any color preference on a Sammy? Thanks for your post.
  21. What size Buzzbait? Do you prefer a black buzzbait on sunny days? Most of the time I use 1/4 oz buzzbait with a chartusse skirt. Thanks for your help.
  22. A group of us are fishing the Gasconade River around the Paydown area the last week of September.....any advice. Right now I have a 1/4 chartreuse buzzbait, red crankbait, fluke, and a chomper tied on. Catch and Release of course. Thanks
  23. Can I ask what you were fishing with.....chompers, brushhogs, shallow running crankbaits? A group of us are scheduled to fish the Gasconade by Vienna, Mo next week. Catch and release. Were the bass pretty aggressive? Three years ago fishing was incredible, two years ago was ok and last year the river was messed up by hurricane Ike. We are hoping for a good week. Any help would be appreciated!
