  1. Two nice whites caught on brown jigs about 7 pm
  2. My skin is the one that says rockaway beach and has a clown. Do not have the ozark anglers link in the top left hand corner. ACTUALLY IT IS THERE NOW. I JUST DIDN'T SCHROLL UP FAR ENOUGH. IT CAME UP WHEN I SELECTED THE IP BOARD PRO SKIN....NOT THE DEFAULT.
  3. I was surprised that they just discovered that monkeys can fish. I have seen them fishing in the tail waters at Taney for several years now. The only part that confused me is the part about intellegence. Most of the monkeys that I have seen at taney actually can't read the signs posted about types of bait and courtesy. They also don't know how to measure things either cause I have seen some of them rushing to their trucks with stringers of slot fish looking over their shoulders as the drive off. The easiest way to spot them especially at outlets 1 & 2 is they usually are shuffleing their feet constantly and crowding against anyone that is catching fish. I GUESS THAT WHAT MONKEYS DO THOUGH.
  4. Hey Henry: I just read your post on leonards thread. Leonard called today but I missed his call. I called him back a while ago about....no answer.....where do you think he might be at 8 pm? Taking my walleye out before I get there next week. We will try to hook up next week. Plently of options to try. Been a long time since I hooked into walleye. I used to live in Granite City in Illinois and fished the low water dam next to 270. Caught lots of sauger and walleye up in the rocks. I would take a 6 foot ladder and push it down into the sand and sit on the top. Bouncing minnow tipped jigs or spoons off the rocks of the low water dam. Folks kind of laughed at me until they saw me catching fish. Next thing you know there were two three others fishing off ladders.
  5. Thanks Phil and DT for the information . Kind of what I feared. Looks like it will be a challenge......that's why they call it fishing instead of catching. I have had good luch fishing behind islands and structure in the past when they were generating lots of water although I prefer tossing midges at the dimples and slow dirfting nymphs etc. I will bring my tying stuff in case I find out what is on the menu. As it usually works if you keep trying something new and present it differently fish always are eating. What I usually find is what works best is the fly that you usually only have three of. By the time I give one away and lose two I am back up to dock tying more. Never been at Taney and not eventually solved the puzzle but the days of fish jumping in the boat are over for a while. Leonard I will call you later today. I am expecting a call today that I can't miss so I don't want to tie up my cell now. I can't believe what I just typed. I am retired and someting is actually more important than talking about fishing. DUH Maybe I need to review my value system!
  6. Lamar: Great to see you are up and running after the floods this spring.
  7. Follow up on BSSP report. Email from Peter Gaskin Hi Thom, Yes, sure did and sure do appreciate you taking time to post my trout picture. My 20 inch trout was the largest trout caught by our group of 18 men since we began fishing Bennett Springs in 1992. There is a sequel to this happening I want to share with you. From the same hole where I caught mine a second 20 incher was caught on Monday, and a 19.75 incher on Tuesday. Best regards, Pete
  8. This is a picture of my granddaughter Jessica. She and her dad went to the stream at the morning whistle and she had caught several on a bumble bee spinner and was back at the cabin by 8 oclock. All of the kids were catching fish. They had stocked 100 lunkers. My grandson Zach caught and released several fishing the pine squirel pattern that Leanord had introduce him to one night. He had tied it himself and was stripping it just at the hatchery outlet. He also caught a 3 # Largemouth on it. I couldn't get him to come out of the water for a pic since he didn't want to lose his spot. This is a picture of Peter Gakin from Oklahoma cith who was staying next door to us and along with others had caught several of the left over lunkers on Sunday. I fished on Friday after I checked in and caught fish on white mini jigs, Black and yellow mini's, lots of different egg flies and small green jig and a grey hares ears. It was mostly about the kids though that week end.
  9. Bill you read my mind And I believe it was the same guy that gave you some static for not fishing the docks when all of the fish were there.. You let those clients intimite you. HE HE HE HE HE.
  10. I saw two guys coming off the river below the bridge past Sand Springs. They both had full stringers at about 10:00 today. There was a nice hatch of millers and black caddis coming off the water at BSSP. 100 lunkers released saturday for kids day.
  11. I was at BSSP today and talked on my onstar system in the car. No problem. I have had no problem anywhere with it. I do not have onstar cell phones but have on star in my vehicle which has never failed to work anywhere. No one could meet or beat the 1000 hours with 2 phones for 50 bucks plus tax that tmobile has so I will probally keep it. It works most of the place I travel but if you get to far from the innerstate forget it. I have never had a dropped call in 9 years. I can go to my vehicle since I am traveling anyway. I get a GM retiree rate so it is fairlyreasonaable for the service. If you have an acdident they know it from the sensors in the vehicle and will call 911 even if you are thrown from the vehicle. They also can disable the vehicle if stolen and know if it is broken into. I can call and get my doors opened if i am locked out. I can call for directions. I doesn't serve coffe though or give fishing reports. Onstar phone is just buttons on your rear view mirror in my tahoe. You push a button and the radio is turned off and you hear a voice say onstar readly. I can say carol and it dials my daughter, home and it dials my home, cell, and it dials my cell. I can also say call and give a number etc. it is all hands free. goodby hangs up the satellite phone and turns the radio back on. It is not a cell phone it is a satelite phone.
  12. Pat: I am leaving tomorrow for BSSP and white mini's are a part of the arsenal I have tied up. Some on 1/80 white jig heads and some on 2487 16 with a tungsten bead with a small white chenele and very sparse tag of maribou on the tail. Seems to alway work at bssp. Also some blk/yellow jigs,y2k, bright egg flys, and JD's Kids day so I hope I find a stretch of stream to throw in. If I have time with all else going on I will try to post some pics when I get home.
  13. Thanks for whetting my appetite and the report. I will be hitting Bennet with my Grandson, his father and family this coming weekend for kids weekend. Hopefully the water will be stabilized by then. If not we will figure it out somehow. Looks like white is still working there. I have some new white experminents as well as some john deere's to start out on. Also a version of the y2k egg cluster that I will also try. Thanks again for the report. Thom
  14. Actually there have been some posts on the area several times just under a general topic. There are great opportunities to fish, hunt and birdwatch in the park there and I for one would post on activities as they come up. I generally fish lake 33 and the trout lakes in the winter. Lots of kids activities there also. The Missouri (MDC) report for the area is useless as it generally is for most of the lakes. They depend on the bait sellers or concessions for info and guess what they get. DITTO EVERY WEEK AND SELDOM ACCURATE. Kind of like the Taney report in the MDC weekly report.

    Mark Twain

I am guessing that you are from around the st louis area asking about Mark Twain. If so your best bet for walleye or sauger which is nearly the same fish is at the dams below clarksville or winfield. Also the low water dam at the 270 access near granite city or at alton dam on the Illinois side of the river. All good Walleye or Sauger spots. The info given by Cody in the prevous post still applies. At most of those spots mentioned especially Clarksville dam you will see 4 or 5 boats just off the channel below the dam catching fish all summer long but it is best when they are running in the spring. there is a paid launch at Clarksville at the river front park. You can catch some off the rocks at the park but the best spot is just off the channel where the stream comes in on the Illinois side.
  16. I think the politically correct name for that bait is Rocky Mountian Oysters. Check with your local butcher. I have never heard of catching gar with them though.
  17. When I lived in Illinois we fished below the dam at caryle (Kaskaskia river) for crappie, white bass etc. On slow days in the hot summer you could put a piece of nylon rope on the end of a crappie hook and shag it out. The gar would hit it and snag their teeth on it. As you said a ball to land them and they get big. No problem to get someone to take them there for eating.
  18. Great story Al: I thought I was reading one of those nostalgic Field and Stream stories. Thanks for the picture and uplifting article. I was in dire need for a little elixer for my bad case of Cabin Fever.
  19. Any new info on water levels or predictions today? Latest water flows, releases at the dam,......anything?
  20. The corporate farm lobby is powerful in it's influence. I don't think the small farmers are what the corps is interested in. I guess I may be a little niave in thinking that the corps really can be influenced by anyone, but that is what I have read in other sources.
  21. They will have three of their sons going along if they go. What are the chances of them fishing at dry run creek later this week....thursday or later? Is dry run creek fishable with this high water?
  22. Whew Jim! what a relief I thought it was underwater or covered with snow.
  23. If you use the loop and tie it on both ends you must leave the middle near the ends loose or the chinese handcuff effect won't work. it must be loose at both points in the center for the effect of weaved fiber to work and tighten when pulled. That is why I suggested to leave the loop on and just loop them togeher.
  24. Absolutely right about teams. I have fished many days whenI did great because of who I was fishing with rather than how smart I was. The other person in the boat makes all of the difference. That is why I always advise people who are fishing a stream or lake the first time enlist the services of a guide. Spending 7 or 8 hundred dollars for meals and accomadations and going home skunked is kind of a waste. Investing another three hundred dollars for the trip of your life if you can afford it makes a lot of sense. That is why I appreciate folks like you and others who share knowledge and technique on this forum. Priceless information. Thanks.
  25. With all that is going on right now I think there might be bigger fish to fry anyhow. No pun intended.
