  1. Two years ago when I took the cover of my boat to get it ready to go it was full of leaves and the squirrels had eaten the cap off my gas tank as well as a few holes in the top side of the plastic. Go figure. They also have eaten insulation off the wires in my tool shed. I leave the power turned on now and that seems to help solve that problem. What is really strange is that there is plenty of acorns, pecans and corn available. Why did they go for my boat. I now keep moth balls under the tarp in the fuel compartment. Moth balls????? Are they some kind of nut?????????? Maybe that's not such a good idea.
  2. Flyfsn: Rolen just posted this: http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?s...ic=8881&hl= It may be what you are looking for.
  3. I have had good success tying egg patterns on 1/100 jig heads for using during generation. I have good luck on multicolored patterns. Take salmon, peach and a strand of red chennels and tie it all on. Other colors work also. I thread these colors through a straw or ink pen cartrage and tie them onto either a jig like mentioned or on a scud hook with a tungsten bead on the head. This makes a good multi pattern eggfly. The strand of red chennelle will make a red dot to come up at random simulating the red dot natural egg. Another way I have sometimes gotten the multi pattern is to take several different colored eggs and wet them. Then I wrap them tightly for several hours until the colors bleed together and stain one another. Then take them apart aned dry so the hooks wont rust. I discovered this accidently on year after getting my fly box wet and discovering later that they had stained each other. Using those eggs produced great results. I think they acutally match the color of a artificial egg that has fallen off the hook or was dropped into the water and rotted. All I know they look like they should be thrown away to me. Since it was all that I had that day I tried them and the fish liked them a lot.
  4. Yea trav you are right. Satisified?
  5. Hey have any of you looked through old photo albums and noticed pics of stringers of fish kept in the past? I have some pictures of lunkers that I kept. I am almost embarrased to even show them today. Taney was so full of the freshwater shrimp that jig and float worked almost anywhere on the stream. My two teenager sons came in about 12:30 in the morning just off Lazy Valley's dock in our small boat holding one 5 pound rainbow and then about an hour later another the same size. I have since discovered that 4 nice 12 inch rainbows smoked on a grill with the approiate stuffing or fileted are all I need. Of course my three hungry teenagers now have teenagers of their own. Yes those were the good ole days.
  6. ?????????????????All went religious??????????????? There are only 5 forum members out of 2000 registered who have made a religious comment on this thread topic and one athiest, one agnostic. All have made interesting points and yes we agreed to disagree. Personally I don't have a problem with those who are not religious because when I disagree with someone it causes me to check my facts and experiences to determine if I am the one who is wrong. Unfortunately I discover often that I am the culpret who is wrong and I will PM the person that I challenged and state that fact with apologies. It is interesting how every time I have PM someone I actually have made a new friend out of an alleged adversary. Now for the ALL that we ALL can agree on..................LETS ALL GO FISHING AND SLAP EACH OTHER ON THE BACK BECAUSE WE HAVE ALL HAD A GREAT TIME DOING SOMETHING THAT WE ALL LOVE!
  7. I usually research thourghly groups that organize and try to enlist others in their efforts. If you research the group "TEAM" and its leaders you will find them to be patriots, men of good reputation and striving for some worthwhile goals. I won't be joining their "team" because I am engaged in another team on other missions simuliar that are worldwide and effective. We meet almost daily and are trying to reach goals set from the begging of time. I rufuse to demean men of good purpose so God's speed to all who fall in that category. A word of advice to you: Don't get discouraged if you are demeaned or ridiculed for your enthusiam or efforts for a good cause....YOU ARE IN GOOD COMPANY. The world acually hung a man called Jesus on a cross and crucified Him for His efforts to give them an eternal and abundant life. I do not have to defend my faith, Someone of greater status and authority does that for me. My only job is to live it and proclaim it. My daughter that we lost to cancer when she was 11 years of age is in his presence as I type and because of his promises most of my family and I will join her some day.

    The Eagles

I got it as a gift for Christmas. It is OK but I play the old favorites CD most of the time. It seems better if you know the words and can sing along. Good to see them active though. BTW the Eagles were invited to play at the halftime show for the superbowl and passed on it. Their comment "We would rather be asked to play at the Grand ole Opry". What a classie group!
  9. Greg: A couple of weeks ago I was at chute 3 down from the ladder and had the same experience. I had tried to wade very quietly just out from the shallow water and just as I positioned myself to fish a couple of gulls began to dive. They just couldn't lift the fish but continued to try until they had chased them into the deeper water. I just wondered if those gulls went back to their nest that night and commented about the disgrundeled angler that they saw at outlet 3 who was waving a long stick at the fish that they were trying to bring home for supper?
  10. Bass pro has an excellent CD called "HANDCRAFTING EFFECTIVE FLIES" with Mike Huffman and Lefty Kreh that is just for newbies. It features 6 basic fly patterns and goes through the use of the tools and materials. It can be stopped and rewound on a regular cd player and the best part.... ONLY $9.95. It can be ordered at basspro.com. I review it occasionally even thoght I have tied most of the flys before.
  11. Know what you mean one shot. I was down at taney last week and had to fish nearly two days to catch a couple fish small enough to keep for lunch. One day the first six casts brought in 4 browns and one rainbow 16". I was finally able to catch 3 nice stockers under 12" by fishing directly in the chute with a small sowbug after the snaggers left. One guy there had a fish in the tail about every other on to hand. After they fought in the current all that time I wonder how many of them survived. Go figure...how is that fun?
  12. Interesting article. My last day down last week I switched from outlet 2 to outlet 3 where I was doing great. The fish were midging just under the tree limbs up from the ladder. I caught deposited a fly or two in the trees trying to get a good drift. Even though my orvis 9' tls got me there a few times with the wing and the ineptness of the angler the fish won most battles. I thought that a longer rod might enable me to get up farther or enable a longer drift. Caught several fish down just below the cable on a dry caddis but not as much as many as up stream. I had it all to myself though and did some experminting with new patterns. On my way home I stopped at Bass pro catalog store and they had three or four wally marshall 12' crappie rods that are set up much like a fly rod and are rated for 4# to 12# line. They were only $15. I rationalized that if they didn't work for fly fishing I could use one for the spring shallow water ceappie spawn at either Mark Twain or LOZ. It is two piece and has lots of whip in the tip but for $15 how could I go wrong. with two grandsons I don't have much problem getting rid of an extra rod. Might even work at night for long casts or easing throught the outlets.
  13. Hey Henry, Sounds like a great idea. I have a new 8 weight rod and am looking forward to using it. It has been a great week. No pics cause I aM Standing in fast water most of the time, but I have caught and released some real prettly fish. They seem to be really full of color and fight. They have been running lots of water this week but there are no crowds at the outlets. One more day left and I will problally come back in January.
  14. I have worked in several flood / tornado etc situations and the best quickest way to get a reliable heavy duty extension cord is to use 14 ror 12 romex and put a plug on one end and a receptacle in a box on the other. Thl at gives two plug ins that can then be used for lighter cords or other emergency equiptment. You can usually buy this wire and the ends at any hardware or Lowes type store in various lengths or 250 foot roll.
  15. Fished this am from 9 until 1030. Tied on zebra midge with a small salmon egg. First 6 casts landed 5 fish. 4 browns and one rainbow. The browns were small except the last one which was 16”. All were fat and well colored. There were two other anglers at chute 2 fishing small scuds catching several fish mostly small. I was downstream drifting from the end of the chute along the current break line. Lots of hits on the midge copper bead head 18 zebra midge and a few on the egg. I later tied a small 18 tung gold beaded dark grey hares ear dubbed like a scud and picked up a few larger fish on it. Another great morning. I also caught a few on a black with silver wrap zebra as a dropper on the other midge. I fished from 12” to 2 foot depending on where the fish were in the column. Not steady pattern but lots of fish everywhere. There were 4 guys fishing chute 1 and that was about it.
  16. I wasnt sure. He was kinda quiet but very polite. I think I shocked him when I offered to switch places with him. I like to fish farther down from the outlet and he seemed to be more comfy in the exit area. We switched places and both caught more fish. There are so many good places to fish even when they are running water It is so rediculous when folks get testy. Nothing like the boat though but I thought I might be leaving in the water longer than I had planned if the ice storm moved in like they first predicted.
  17. I saw you guys fishing. Fishing was great at outlet 2 again today. Midges and small scuds were the ticket. I landed at least 20 fish 12 to 17 inches. all in great shape. I fished from 9 until the storm came in. Theguys fishing the out let wer great sportsmen and we all enjoyed fishing the good water and sharing the runs. a pleasure to fish with gentlemen.
  18. Don: Ditto! I injoyed the same experience this summer> Learned TONS.
  19. This morning I went down to outlet 1 about 10 am. Two guys fishing and two units running. Moved down to outlet 2 and had it to myself. I tyed on a # 12 hares ear and began catching from the first cast. I landed 4 bows and one small brown and then switched to a small multi colored egg and caught two stockers and lost several. Switched to a # 18 zebra midge with a copper bead head and black thread and copper wire wrap. I began to pick a hit or a fish on every two or three drifts. I was fishing it about 12” below the indicator. The water started to drop and to my surprise the fishing got hotter for the next 15 or so minutes. I had to go back to the condo for a meeting and it started to rain anyway. I plan to return again before dark.
  20. Thanks everyone for your input, We had time to attend a very good Worship service this morning and sang in our Christmas presentation. The fishing there was great. God is Good! We are getting ready to head for Branson (12:00 Pm) and enjoy all the great things that are there. We should be there before dark. We look forward to seeing some of you there.
  21. I am trying to get WEATHER info on the Branson area. I have 5 days scheduled (9-14)and can' t decide weather to cancel or come late. I pay a fortune for cable and the weather channel seems to be more interested in running forecasts on the east and west coast. What's up with Branson for this week. Will the shows that are left be open and the IMPORTANT QUESTION WILL THE FISHING BE WORTH THE TRIP????????
  22. Good information By Leonard and Jerod in the other two posts. For a newbie droppers can sometimes be confusing. Check out this great article for a little more detail on what Leonard mentioned in using the dropper. Lots of ways tying on the dropper and most seem to make the bite better. Cut and paste or click on the link below: http://www.midcurrent.com/articles/techniq...ing_double.aspx
  23. Amish Bill: Lake Taneycomo is actually a dammed up stream which is formed from the damming of Table Rock. So at the base of the dam you are fishing the tailwaters of Table Rock and at the base of the dam below Bull shoals you are fishing the tail waters of Bull shoals which again is called the White River. Between the two lakes is another dam called the powersite dam at Forshite. Below it is again a small tail water habitat that holds Trout but the release is not necessarily as cold as with the huge dams below the large lakes. BTW. There was a post yesterday of a guy using a 2 1/2 inch silver Rapala just below the cable above outlet #1. He caught several nice trout by teasing it just below the surface. Brown and olive green jigs work great fished below any float and dead floating them in the current. Tease them a few times and then let them sit. I usuallly use the smallest float that I can get away with. If the flaot even bearly moves or makes a dimple around it.....SET THE HOOK. And then let the fun begin on a fly rod or spinning rod...great fun.
  24. Phil and Family, Your Christmas letter came at a very opportune time. I am planning my last 2007 trip next week (9-14). The letter provided me the answers to most of the questions concerning shows, fishing and conditions. As always very useful quality information. Pass my thanks on to all of the employees at Lilley's Landing for going the extra mile to make our stays there this year trouble free and always enjoyable. You are very fortunate to have Megan back. She does a great job in stearing guests in the right direction. I am sure that you are rightfully very proud.
  25. Daddy Carp: Even for the deer that can read the signs are turned the wrong way. By the time they can read the signs since they are sideways to the crossing.... they are already on the road.
