  1. Thanks for the reply flyfish. Hopefully we can get sometime Monday or after.
  2. Digger Dave: I have the pro-crappie 2006. They have revised the newer 2007 model. I liked the fact that it had a lower area which my grandkids could be in which was not level with the top edge of the boat. However I also like the flat surface for fishing from if no kids are in the boat. I got the 50 hp and it is pretty good for Taney but on LOZ the smaller procrappie a bit small. Depends what water you are fishing. I purchased from Bass Pro and was not thrilled with the service that I got when going back. Some of the folks that I dealt with were not to helpfulor knowledgeable. If you buy in St. Charles they are limited on what they can do there and will send you to the Fishing hole. I checked another shop and the service I required was less without using the warrantee than with using the warrantee that with the one that I had bought. I would also suggest that you check out the comparable Lowes boats as well as the others suggested before settling on Bass pro. but definately go with 4 stroke no matter what you buy in the way of a motor. There are still a few of the other motors out there at less cost but it is well worth the difference.
  3. Thanks Phil, this is what I was looking for so I could check my fly boxes and see what my inventory was. Still a little time for home tying. Anyone else please jump in for any advice for next week either wading at the outlets or from my boat. My invite is still open for anyone who wants to join me in my boat any day M thru F for some fly fishing. PM me if interested. I am leaving Monday morning and will be there until Friday.
  4. I agree. Lots more could be done to insure that the few who abuse the system are identified and prosecuted. I think Dano's original remarks indicated that it seems that some states are cracking down and we all will eventually pay the price for those who abuse the system. Kind of like the traffic laws. Let someone drive carelessly at 90 miles an hour and have a terrible accident and the first thing they do is lower the speed limit to 55 mph and punish those who were already going 60 or 65 and driving with care like they were supposed to. Hey GB! Have a great day partner
  5. Look at your license Graybear. It has your name address and all of the info that is required to establish who you are. I will guarnatee if you are questoned by a warden when being stopped for a violation the first thing he asks for is your drivers license. When the poacher is caught he is asked by the warden to prove his idenity. That is how the system works. I was involved in the prosecution of an individual from Iowa who had this happen to him at Bennet Springs. He was told in no uncertain terms that he would either produce the information asked for or spend the night in jail. Believe me Name address city of residence is all that is needed to get 20 pages of information about an individual and you gave it or will give it if you get caught or are prosecuted. I purchase licenses in 5 states almost every year and am always asked for a drivers license to show what state my residence is in. That is how reciprocal state rules are determined.
  6. Apparently you haven't purchased a fishing or hunting liscense in Missouri becase there is a data base here that is accessed before any permit is issued or license , the yelow tag you recieve, before it is approved. Thats is how they reissue your fishing license if you lose it or check on your permit status if you tell a warden if you left it at home. I know Texas and Florida have that same process and you can even purchase a license from home online but you are first checked for outstanding citations or violations. Great system and it does eliminate the poachers getting back into the system before their suspension is played out.
  7. I will be fishing Taney from November 9 thru 12 and will have my boat docked at Lilly's and also wading in the tailwater. Any suggestions on where to fish, what to use and other advice. I fish there often but always find suggestions on recent success and failure helpful. I just read venven's excellent report and it will be helpful. Anyone who will be down that week and wants to partner up for fishing from my boat PM me and I will give you my cell. Other wise I will be the guy fishing from a bass procrappie boat or limping through the tailwater enjoying the great fishery at Taney.
  8. Congrat's Leonard and Momma on the arrival of that special little darling "Becca". I just a little surprised that you aren't holding her out at arms length for the picture to make here look a little bigger. O well, she is pretty enough without that.
  9. Great pictures. Thanks for taking the time posting them. I will be down on the 12th for a 5 days fishing out of Lillly's Dock so I am especially happy to see the pigs released. Looking forward for some time on the water.
  10. Hawkeye: Where did you get the smaller red circle hooks? I had such good luck with hooking up fishing for specks, whiting and sand trout on the Texas coast that I thought of trying them for crappie and possibly tying flies for trout. I couldn't find circle hooks smaller than #2 especially in red. I am sure that they are made. The thing I like about circle hooks was that the fish are mostly hooked in the side of the mouth makeing catch and release much easier. Anyone?
  11. Murdoc: A PMS is Leonard’s Personal Mucho Secret . If you have time to fish a night with Leonard you will probably take one home after sticking a few nice fish with it. I did..
  12. Morgan: We were staying in Pagosa Springs Colo and visited the Orvis shop there for advice on a guide On the San Jaun in New Mexico. The San Jaun runs through Pagosa springs but isn't much there mostly due to the low water above and the hot springs in town that flow into the stream. Be sure to check out your guide with a recommendation from someone you trust. As with everywhere: There are guides and there are GUIDES. We were very happy with our GUIDE who took special interest in my 9 year old grandson who ... thanks to the personal attention....brought several excellent Bows to hand. It is about a 2 hour trip from Pogosa Springs to the tailwater and probally another 1/2 hour from Durango. Beautiful drive down and well worth the time.
  13. Taneynut: I know the feeling. I fell about the same way at night this summer: however Leanord was at my left side and helped me regain my balance after falling and getting wet. I had my left knee repaired but my right one is jealous and occasionally rebels and buckles. I baptised my cell phone earlier this year in the name of the falter, fall and the clumbsy old determined to wade fisherman. And we think that the kids do funny things to have fun these days.
  14. Morgan: Thanks for the report sounds like a great time. I know what you mean about floating in a klack with an experienced guide. The last time I was on the San Jaun in New Mexico in the tailwaters we splurged and hired a guide who put on quality fish after fish. I always catch nice fish wading there but this was one of the best days fishing I have ever had. Most every fish was in the 16 to 20 range and every 3 or 4 casts saw either a hit or a fish to hand. Fishing with a guide you are usually always on fish and the flies are tied on at the right depth and size for the area. No guessing or going through ever fly in the arsenal to find the right match for the hatch. On that one stretch only one bow over 20" can be kept and when retained the fisherman must stop fishing and leave the area. We never seen any fish kept for the whole day but there were a lot of 20 plus ones caught.
  15. What you are seeing is the larvae of a very large type of misquito. For more information and a picture click on this link: http://maguires.com/glow_worms/about_worms.htm I don't think they can be used for bait because they actually bite on us eventually.
  16. The outlet store at BPS did get rid of the bargan close outs. Last year I purchased a 6 wt 9' rod for just carrying around in the Tahoe for 39 dollars. they had probaly 30 + rods in that category. This year I was going to pick up a spare 8 wgt for night fishing. Nothing there but some 80 dollar rods that were worth about 80 bucks. I did however pick a decent 8 wght 9 footer with reel, backing, line, and tippet for 79 dollars in main fly shop. I tried it out couple of weeks ago and insn't a bad rod for the price. I'll probally give it to my grandson for pond bassin and night fishing at Taney.
  17. Rusty: May not be this simple but sometimes the maintenance settings change for some reason. In the lower left hand corner click on START. Then click on CONTROL PANEL. Then click on POWER (lower right hand corner). These are the settings that regulate your screen status and the windows fairy sometimes changes them "we know not why" Hope it is that simple. Sorry I left out a step. Click on: Start Control panel display screen saver then Power
  18. Thanks Phil and Jeremy for sharing the detailed recipe. I have tied the pine squirrel but a little diferently. I can see where this might be better. I also add a little tail of sculpin maribo to the bottom end of the hook that sets adjacent to the hide side of the tail. Tonight when I watch the Cards beat Arizona and move into first place I will try tieing a couple of these for my next trip in November. If I can wait that long. GEE retirement is wonderful. Hopefully both of my above stated goals will be achieved successfully GO CARDS!
  19. I usually fish a Trident TLS mid-flex 7.5 9 ft. 5 wgt as my first choice at Taney. It is a good all around rod and fishes great from my boat since my bad knees usually limit my mobility in waders. Great for roll cast and loading and shooting. Effortless handling balanced with the Battenkill recommended reel.
  20. I have an old 30 HP evenrude much like the one pictured. It has set for 2 years without starting often and each time I try to start it it has come back great. I just put on the muffs around the inlets at the bottom. Pour some raw gas into the cylinder, flush the feed gas line and put new high octane gas in the tank. Prime and choke then crank and it will eventually start up. After the first start up and run it is fine for the season. I don't use it much anymore because I have a new 4 stroke on my new boat but it served me well and has spent many hours on Taney. Good luck. Hey caddis would you mind emailing me the article if it is not too much trouble. I like to keep things like that in my file since my generic file (brain) doesn't always work so good at 68 as it did when I was younger.
  21. It is a whole different world at night at least below the dam at Taney. go with someone who can show you the ropes at least one time. I learned a lot with Leonard and he will move you around enought to know the area, suggest flies, and give detailed instruction. I often hire a guide when I am fishing a new area, method, or waters. I have only been disapointed one time on the white in Arkansas. The guide was more interested in getting us our limit and back to the cabin. We were staying at Stetson's and acutually caught more fish on our own in the riffles above stetsons and in white hole below than with the guide. That is not usually not the case as most guides are very professional and take the time to get you on fish and method. Their reputution is their livelyhood. The ones I have met at Taney are in that category. Well worth the investment.
  22. We saw some huge browns in the area that you mentioned a couple of weeks ago swirling around between the docks. I have caught some big brownies in the middle there and just out from the docks as well as just off the drop off of the channel on the other side. You know immediately what you got on because they head deep and stay near the bottom and strip off lots of line real quick before they start their head shaking rant to get the hook loose. Most anywhere else upstrem it could be a sucker doing that but I have never hooked into a sucker in that area. Isn't it nice that just on Brown or Bow like that can make your day.
  23. Chuck: Great pictures. Thanks for sharing them. Can you give any detail on what camera you used and what resolution the pictures were shot at if it was a digital camera. I have got in the (maybe bad) habit of shooting at 3.2 or smaller meg so that I can post pic more quickly and store more on my flash card. It is kind of the lazy way out since my sony allows me to resize any pic within the camera software and do the same thing. 3.2 will give me pretty good snapshots and at least 5x7 enlargement without much degradation. The problem I have shooting at 5 meg is it takes so long to download lots of pics on the net even though the results are worth the wait as your posts here prove. Thanks again. BTW is that squirrel a professional model. He even smiled for the shots. How did you get him to say hickory nut and snap on the "H" sylable.
  24. Quote Lilly "You know what I'd like to see... everyone use their first and last name as screen names. This isn't an edict from the admin, just a thought." I tottlaly agree. I find it interesting how many critical and demeaning statements are made by folks that do not list any info on their bio's etc. I have had many interesting conversations with others via email , phone conversations and personal messages. Times when I wanted to make personal comments to complement others or apologize if I thought I had offended someone on their posts and opinions I found the off line forum method very useful. I have met great folks who are really willing to share info offline but do not wish to open up to some areas on the forum. Just some great people here. I view this forum like a cafeteria. Some of the food in a cafetreia grosses me out. I just pass it by and pick up what I like. I don't find it necessary to dress down the cafeteria owner becuase his likes and mine are different. On a forum that is what buttons on the keyboard are for just pass it by if you are not interested. If you scroll through the entire the opening menu there are items and topics that do not necessarily relate to fishing. That said: I believe this is a great forum to obtain interesting information, timely fishing reports, sage advice, genuine support from prayer warriors, other opinions on any subject you may not of thought of, and great fellowship. Is it perfect???? NO! Hopefullly if God's promises are true...........AND THEY MOST CERTAINLY ARE......I will be in a happy perfect place one day and hopefully will meet a great number of you there. Thanks Phil, Dano and all of the other administrators for their patience and dilligence to make this a GREAT FORUM.
  25. Phil: In regards to your previous post: Interest unexpected occurance in the failing gold market this AM. "Long-term investors are piling into gold, gold producers are buying back their hedges and the funds are going with the flow," said Julian Phillips, an analyst at GoldForecaster.com. "It looks like the see-saw has tipped in gold's favor." Against that backdrop, gold for December delivery rallied $8.40, or 1.2%, to $713 an ounce on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It climbed as high as $716.50, the contract's strongest intraday level since April 20. The contract closed at $681.90 a week ago, so it's trading more than $31 higher for the week. Notice they said long term investors. Who knows with the idiots in the middle east what will happen tomorrown or next week though. Remember that one of the largest losses in the twin tower disaster was stored gold bullion. Most of which was reported not recovered. Can we believe that?????
