  1. always it was a great time to be at Lilley's Landing catching trout! I hope to be back again in March. Thanks, Bill Howe Got to add "Amen" to the above statement. Thanks for a very good detailed report. Leonard is a Hoot isn't he! Last time I was there he invited my grandson down to the edge of outlet 2 and taught him the "chuck and duck technique". Tim had hooked a couple of trout in about ten minutes with Leonard's help.
  2. Great story. I had nearly the same experience in Wyoming on the wind river. In the upper reaches just out of Dubois I fished almost every morning before chores on the Early Ranch there where I traded 2 weeks of wiring cabins and repair the water system for free acess to the 20 + horses and Wind River access just a short walk from the Kitchen and morning breakfast. That end of the Wind was full of small brookies that were very picky and easily spooked in the clear water riffles and holding pools along the stream. I believe that they were stalked by mt lions and other preditors and that was the reason for having to be very careful wading and stalking the fish. Some mornings I would bring a 3 or 4 of the 8" brookies to the kitchen and the cook and I would share them for breakfast. I also had access to a deeper section of the Wind on the Indian reservation nearby. The property was just outside of Indian territory and owned by a friend of Early dude ranch. Thatr section of the Wind held 14 to 16 inch browns that were a challenge due to the fast current there and large bolders. I managed to wade and jump across the bolders of the stream there and with long drifts letting out line managed to bring several large Browns upstream against the current and release them back into the river. I had a ball those two weeks and met same great wranglers and vistors from around the world.
  3. Seems clear to me:PITA acronym--->> Phil is pointing to the guy about to run into his boat and pointing as he says: Point It That Away!
  4. One good way to glean info from the "Ozark Angler" is to just dress in a pair of jeans and a simple plain shirt and go down to outlet #1 or #2 and sit on the bench or shore and watch the locals fish. There are many that are there nearly every fishable day. Don't ask "Catching any" ... just sit and observe. Most of the anglers that fish the outlets are very friendly and cordial to the polite observer who uses some patience and courtesy. I have engaged many times with some very nice folks there who have not only shown me what they are using and how to fish it but even offered me a few flies. Don't wade down next to them or stand behind them or ask questions while they are in the outlet or stream but just hang out a while. If the angler seems to want to engage in conversation then ask questions simuliar to the ones asked on this forum. You might be surprised as to what infromation or mis-information you might receive. Ask about fly shops, eateries, local attractions and places to fish at the outlet and along the shore at Taney. Some days when I have finished fishing or need a break from sore knees I find the conversation and comraderee as refreshing as the fishing.
  5. I also had a tingle of Cabin fever set in my morning coffee sips. Thanks for setting the cam up. Nice touch. Both working on mine even though Norton gave me a mild warning on the second link the first time I clicked on it. The second time it was ok. Prob buffering set up a cookie.
  6. nor did I and I have the newest version of Norton + all add ons No problem RPS but I would rather have a heads up than a heads down trying to get back online especially when cabin fever is an epidmeic like now.
  7. Hey Cricket I just switch to my onstar when I am down there and I am fine. No one has that number except by my choice. No answering machine either.
  8. Another possibility is to turn off the valve and instal a 3/4" solenoid (or the size of the pipe) at the current valve and just turn it off and on with an electrical switch installed in the living area above the crawl space.
  9. Back in 2002 I traveled to Botswana in Africa for 3 weeks with a group to build a Church in the bush. The diet there was very interesting: insects, meat, plants ... you name it. We had one of our 20+ crew that was a Vegan and he got so sick even though he onlyl ate his restricted diet that we had to travel 30 kilometers back to the nearest village to get him medical help. The nice part of it all was that we heard very little about the healthy diet he was on for the rest of the trip.
  10. Read it again and get over it. It won't be all over here for at least a week if that soon. Get over it.
  11. Don't worry about it Buzz according to one of our weather experts on the forum it will all be melted and gone in a couple of days. Couple meaning 2 I guess unless the new math has changed that. Of course now snow and ice melts at 30 degrees not 32 also. Global warming you know. That 14 inches at the bottom will all be gone by thursday evening. I think I will head out to Busch wildlife cause I think that ice will be all gone on the lake by Saturday. 4 days of 30 degrees should take of that.
  12. And for the record, I am the only source of income for my three person family, who receives no "assistance", at $12.00/hr, which is considerably less than two folks working at minimum wage. The only debt we have is a manageable payment on said AWD Commander. I suspect those that aren't prepared with a four wheel drive while living in an area where it is sometimes required either 1)don't want one or 2) their budget looks very different than that of my family. (Yes NOW I am thumping my chest, about my family living within our means and making smart financial sacrifices. If you want to fault me for that, be my guest.) But that is neither here nor there. TC If more folks would have the wise common sense that you and your family have there would be more 12 buck an hour jobs to be had. Sorry if I overreacted to your comments.one of the ladies that worked for me last year has not been able to find a job form more than 8 bucks and hour and her husb and who has a degree has been laid off from 3 jobs since last september. They are both hard worker and trying hard. That being said Congrats on your success and fine family. I worked for 39 years and retired in 1999 and we had the same philosophy. I was fortunate enough to never have to ask for help from anyone. Keep us the good work pal we need more responsiblle families like yours. BTW with already 7 + inches of snow in Columbia over 3/4 inches of ice under it in some places .... it will be longer than a few days before this snow in gone in Missouri. The tempertatures for the next two days alone are predicting -4 degrees ane 0 degrees. I doubt if much snow will melt with those temps. Columbia is filled with hills and narrow streets and several college campuses that are all closed.
  13. I have a good fried who is a meterologist and he often remarks. If we tell them the worst and it don't happen we get lots of flac as quacks. If we tell them the average or least and a catatorphe hits we all need to be fired. So we just try to use common sense. The storm coming through MO. right now is a huge downward swag and depends upon how the pressure system move the storm path. Right now it appears that much of the St. louis area could escape the worst. it did today. But if there is a shift in the downward (southward path of the storm as it did in 2006 it could be another disaster with thousands of families caught without heat or shelter. My son and his family had to abandon their house and stay in a motel for 2 weeks in 2006 from a storm that shifted into the metropolitian area. I give our cities, counties, state, and federal officials a lot of credit for taking the s cautious interest in our families even though it might be a wasted effort. Lets give them some credit for being pro active instead of being monday morning quarter backs if they do too much.
  14. Hello Glorydaze:

My Daughter and family live in Holt and fish, hunt turkey, deer, goose at and around Smithton lake and on the river there.

What part of KC do you live in?

  15. Great pictures ... I had edited the other one on previous post but this pic is even better. I had a few turkey hens though my yard and even a fawn this winter but when the door clicked to take pics they were gone espceially the fawn. A ten pointer jumped up out of my garden this winter and almost gave me a heart attack also.
  16. My try to make smaller: click on picture for a 492 Kb pic.
  17. Thanks for the fishing fix Phil. Great report and I am definately going to head down soon for a little cabin fever relief. I will be looking forward to the report.
  18. Was going to post about my experience at BC but Bill covered it pretty well. As with all of Bill's info posted here and in the words of Friday on Dragnet: "just the facts mamn ... just the facts".
  19. Back to the roots of our great nation in the pledge that all of should never take for granted "...one nation, under God, indivisable with liberty and justice for all...."
  20. "Ask not what my country can give to me but what I can give to my country" As non political as it can get. The priviledge of freedom given to us first by God then by this great country is one of the greatest gifts we can ever posess.

[quote name='duckydoty' date='18 January 2011 - And some Table Rock pictures from this season I'm in heaven....been eating duck poppers and duck stir fry just about everyday for 6 weeks now!!!! MMMMM!!!!!GOOD!!!!!! Just curious how you prepare the Geese for eating. I know seemingly only the breast meat is really worth keeping but the last time it tried even that I wasnt worth the effort of cleaning the geese. I do have access to geese often but it seems senseless to kill (OPPS: I MEAN HARVEST THEM) unless I can utilize the meat. I hope I haven't opened a can of worms 0r geese here.
  23. Can you say: HELI0S?????
  24. I have one on my loomis 5 wgt and like it very well. I just purchased a 9 weight TFO cobalt titanium IMF fly rod 6 weight with Christrmas money and upgraded to the Cabellas RPS 6 premium reel and it is soo smoothe and easy to set the brake. All of the inside is sealed to prevent water problelms. I cant wait to get it to the stream to try out. Unfortunately everthing near me is frozem up. Back to your question though for the money the prestige plus is a great reel. I have used it a lot for the last two years and am completely satisified.
