  1. Yeah I wouldn't go stud, but just a guy who thought I hooked a rock, until it moved. Those were my three biggest smallies ever, so it was a feat I hope to duplicate a few times, but if not, I have the memories. Flyfishing is a blast, but I can't seem to stay focused on it when fishing spin tackle is so effective for bass.
  2. Wrench, I went 16, 17, 18 in two days. That could explain why I am fond of that stream. This time of year, the fish are hunkered down in the low wate I assume. Next weekend, myself, the wife and kids are going to be camping at Cedar Camp and floating on the 5th. Fishing is an ancillary thing that day. We will focus on getting them hooked on the water! I look forward to getting down there and just enjoying the area and river.
  3. I like that. I might be a sissy, but I can lift that. As an aside, what is the biggest smallie everyone has pulled from the river?
  4. Big Sugar in the Big Sugar State Park, Shoal Creek above Smackout, closer to Pioneer. These are two I can think of easily.
  5. Wrench, what solo is that?
  6. I am a fan of that river. It is close to home, relatively speaking, and good fishing.
  7. Why wade through fish holding water? 13 inches? He convinced his wife he had ten inches too.
  8. Wrench, you are correct. Below Bannister, it feels like lake water for two miles, then a mile of quality with quality fish and another two miles of crap. If you can see the access at Fiery Fork, that is a good thing too. There is no marking or signage denoting the access. The fishing in that middle mile is pretty good, but above Bannister is just as good and there's not a 2 mile lull before and after the quality water. I have yet to float above Howard's Ford, but it is on my list.
  9. Man, I'm at work and you're doing this? Looks like a hell of a fun day, glad you were able to get out.
  10. Sounds like a great time to be on the river enjoying the bounties of nature!
  11. I just checked them out and am impressed. The price isn't bad and I think they would be perfectly serviceable for anyone wanting a lighter alternative to the three layer boats.
  12. Wrench, I wouldn't gt them out yet. I hope not anyway.
  13. The MDC makes the KDWPT look utterly inept, so even though smallmouth should be c&r only, imo, these are steps in the right direction. It's like they say, baby steps.
  14. Those are Northern Smallmouth then and are just fine with me!
  15. Joe, not to pick nits here, but I wasn't alive, so that's a long time ago... if someone keeps legal fish, we can't say anything about it, but when they are poaching or subverting the laws, we should call Operation Game Thief and hopefully get their hind ends busted. I, for one, will NEVER keep a smallmouth.
  16. Is that the Ouachita drainage or the Neosho drainage which includes the Elk, Spring River and Grand Lake? If it is the Neosho, those are average Neosho smallmouth and they are genetically unique! Enjoy them.
  17. I'm digging the 'Floyd though!
  18. Holy Jeepers, that is a muskie bait.
  19. That would be a blast. Ginnevar, you are aware that they belong there just as much as those beloved trout of yours, right?
  20. I have caught two bass on topwater in my life. WTD must be one of those techniques that take a bit to get used to.
  21. I'm glad you had a good trip!
  22. This float is on my list!
  23. Upper Jacks Fork. If wading, above the Prongs.
  24. Yeah, they're GP. It's a good looking bait at a great price!
  25. Middle Current, Lower Jacks, Big Piney, middle Meramec, the list goes on and on, but depending on time of fall, focus on the lower ends of tributaries to bigger streams and float down to the bigger river.
