Did I see where Cricket said he would be UNDER a new captain?!?!?!? What kind of shendig are you all throwing?
As it stands now, I will have to pass. If something opens up, I may have to sneak down there.
Wolves aren't the biggest of our concerns. The top concern on that list is us. As Al said, we have managed to completely screw up a planet in 200 years, and we show no signs of stopping.
Thanks TF. I took nothing more from that than, if you want to fish, ask first. I live in a communist state with regards to access laws...
When I crave creek fishing, I drive to Missouri. You deserve a brew for helping all of us legally ignorant souls to stay within the law.
The creek holds some big fish and some VERY big fish...I saw ONE very large fish when I was there and missed him by getting "trout fever". I would be wrong in saying that big fish are plentiful, but they are abundant enough that you can have a shot at one if you can get your fly down to them.
Hot darn. TF, you and I need to get together and fish some cricks around KC. I would love to pick your brains about this stuff.
Now, anything you can find about Kansas water access laws ?!?!?!
I hope there are breeding pairs in Missouri. It would kick butt to be fishing for wild trout, seeing a cougar in a tree on a bluff watching the stream. That would be awe inspiring.
Guys, my understanding of state access laws is that if you stay within the creek and enter from a public access, you are legal, whether or not the landowners feel that way.
There is one hole just below the city park, across from the last ballpark that I could have filled a dozen Wal-Mart bags with trash and barely made a dent. You undoubtedly saw this mess as well. Crane is due to be beautified. The denizens of the drainage are beautiful, but the surroundings aren't quite on par with the fish.
How about the Little Niangua last October? There were spots where the water was less than two inches deep and there were spots where the water was green enough that you couldn't see bottom.
The Red.Fly is a faster rod and their 3wt is more of a 4. It would fish well with a WF4F line. You could buy a Three Forks 3wt (darn nice rod for the coin), reel and line for under $100. Check it out.
You could see if Old Yankee Rodsmith has an NOS blank lying around. I know, as of about two years ago, he had a handful of them. You could also scour the web, but the Diamondglass 6'5wt is a similar rod, albeit in multiple pieces and available used for hundreds less than a Lee Wulff.
There isn't a darn thing wrong with them 7-inch fish, but I was hoping, probably naively, for a shot at a larger fish. I will catch a little bigger one at some point. I fell in love with the creek and the challenge those wild trout give. Thanks for all the help guys!
Wow, thanks DD. That is the kind of information I was looking for. Thanks a million. I am going to get back into tying, but until then, I will have to buy flies and add lead to the leader.
That is kind of what I was thinking, but I don't know much about it. I guess I need to get some non-lead shot to put on my leader when fishing these types of creeks.
Wow, thank you. I would guess that a heavy conehead bugger would work, as would a nymph on a #14 hook with lead on the shank and a tung head...I know I need a shorter 4wt fly rod, but you know how those needs go...
Laker, I think I will do that. Thanks!
