  1. What species would you like to catch in Kansas? There are accesses with boat ramps on most rivers in the state. If I were you, I would hit the Flint Hills on either the Cottonwood or Caney to chase some spotted bass. They are Micropterus p. Punctulatus and are apparently a different strain. If you have to float a river, check KDWP's site for accesses, but if wading is ok, take your pick. Don't say, "Only problem is finding a river to fish in places like Kansas and Rhode Island" like we have no rivers in Kansas.
  2. My goal is to catch wild trout in a half dozen Missouri creeks, both managed and unmanaged this year.
  3. KC, that sounds like a fun trip that we should think of making one of these days...
  4. That horseshoe latch is just gorgeous!
  5. PC. we need to hit Capps soon. Wade down to Shoal and fish up to the foot bridge in the park...sounds like fun.
  6. Ain't the first time SIO3...surely won't be the last either.
  7. Neos are great, but also pick up some neoprene wading socks with gaiters for when you wet wade.
  8. Huh? I do hope you mean prosecuted. I don't want to be persecuted like the first century Christians...
  9. If you believe this, you are either naive or have never used these electronics. The electronics help you narrow down where the fish are at, what depth they are at, cover, structure, etc. They eliminate probing unproductive water, which blind fishing requires.
  10. Tim, isn't that a fun little creek? I enjoyed fishing it and am anxious to get back.
  11. Honestly? This is what this forum has come to? Michael, I don't know you from Adam, but this post alone would have kept me from coming into your fly shop. Thank you for confirming what some have told me about you. How about supporting your local FAMILY during these tough economic times? I think that is the real factor here. I have NEVER paid full price for a fly line, hell, I just bought a brand new SA XPS WF4F for $29.50 yesterday. Should that fly shop be closed down and investigated? I know they sold it for a loss, unless fly shop owners buy this crap for next to nothing, in which case I have gotten screwed in the rear end multiple times by fly shop owners. Hmm, come trash someone's for sale ad with your little "support your local fly shop" agenda...for real? Brian is one of the most upstanding guys I have ever talked to, and if there is a problem with a reel, he knows how and where to fix it. A line, well, that is a line, and if you contact Rio or SA, they will have you send the line in and replace it. Big frickin deal, like everyone on here doesn't have multiple fly lines laying around the house to fish while your other line is on its way to or from the manufacturer. Ha, the taxes have been paid before when the lines were purchased up front. Also, sales tax is not required unless you are a business. Do you pay tax on ebay? I did not think so. Are you serious? I believe you have missed the point. Brian has excess lines that he is selling to help someone else save a few bucks with a top notch fly line. These are not Mainstream lines that he is selling for $50, they are very good lines. John, what kind of reel? There are a few guys on here that can fix it for you for little more than the price of parts. (me included) Everyone, get off of Brian. He is just unloading excess gear he has lying around the house. Did anyone get onto my friend Chris about this ad? http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20436 How about mikeb for this one? http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20686 How about Laker for this one? http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20347 I do not believe that Sage's warranty is transferable. Do I really need to keep going or do you all get the point? He bought some lines and is reselling them. Big flippin' deal. Get over yourselves, especially you retail nuts. By the way, have you seen Phil's prices on the Rio Mainstream lines? Is that illegal too?
  12. I have a pair of Cabela's 3mm neoprene waders that I got for just the right price (read: free) from a forum member and they suit me just fine in cooler weather. I wet wade most of the year (mid-late April to late September) and prefer doing just that in both trout waters and local warmwater rivers.
  13. The Sal Trout is a hell of a nice reel. The click is strong, but it has a light enough start up to fish 6# tippet in faster water and let the fish run. They will hold a WF6F Orvis Clearwater and 100 yds of 20# dacron. I had a Retro, but would rather have had the original model.
  14. I might be free once in awhile. I am more apt to go out there during trout season though. I could tell you the one spot on Coot where I have caught 99% of my fish, but I would have to kill you
  15. Like it says, I am looking for a USA 1494. I have a 1494 AK, but would love a 1494DA or a 1494 without a letter code. Let me know what you have and what we can do to get the reel in my hands. Let me know in the thread that I have a PM, and contact me via PM regarding the reel. Thanks!
  16. Wishing I was fishing...

  17. I haven't fished Coot in years, but I have caught bluegill, green sunfish, largemouth, wiper, rainbow and brown trout from Coot Lake.
  18. Don't be surprised if you cannot feel the rod load for short casts. You may be better served with a WF6F line for in close work. Airflo makes a hell of a nice trout fly line in their Airflo Ridge Tactical Trout. It floats higher than any other line I have seen or used. If possible, you should cast the line on your rod before you buy.

That is awesome Ollie! I would've loved to see that fish! That creek endeared itself to me when I was down there and I am envious of those who can spend a lot of time on it.
  20. They grow large in those lakes due to a large amount of forage. That is why there have been 10+ pound hybrids caught from JAR.
  21. Ness, he is quoting me, however, I don't know which part he is saying there is no evidence of...if it is the part about MDC giving the west the shaft, well, read the White Paper again. Species diversity is a downfall? Hmm...
  22. Thanks Al. I guess I would have to travel to the southern Appalachian foothills to chase some redeyes...
  23. Never came out of my mouth. What did come out of my mouth is that streams on this side of the Ozarks get the shaft from the MDC any time it comes to reviewing for new regs or SMAs. I guess that makes me a whiner, but I am tired of seeing this happen, and the White Paper just put it out there in plain sight for everyone to see. Missouri's Department of Conservation is apathetic about the special strain of smallmouth they hold a supply of.
  24. The two ways to help the situation over there without exception is to have a kill reg on spots and c&r on brownies or to kill everything in the stream from the spring branch to the Mississippi. I don't see a twelve fish twelve inch limit helping at all as from what I hear, there are few twelve inch spots.
  25. Eric, I wasn't lashing out so much as responding...but I am all for protecting natives, when possible. I a I want to see spots gone from the Meramec, but honestly, I see few ways they are able to do that. Kill regulations and rotenone are the two I can think of off hand and unless MDC acts soon, the smallmouth will be in trouble in a few eastern Ozark streams. There is equilibrium between smallmouth, spots and buckets in the western Ozarks and it is possible in the east as well, given enough time. I think if spotted bass were out of the Big, Meramec and Gasconade systems the smallmouth would get close to where they were before. If spotted bass took advantage of what has been given to them as far as migration routes and what not, they must be a very smart species and worthy of my time to pursue. What would it take for the MDC to consider kill regs?
