  1. All is gone, thanks for looking!
  2. You know, I recall a few years back now, probably 6 or so years ago, I saw a guy fishing zone 3 with a long rod climbing around in the trees on the other side of the stream. It made me giggle. But about the best fast water to be fished being in zone 3...I love the stretch just below the whistle bridge. It would be magical to swing a softie through there, or fish a Wulff on top. I used to use Rooster Tails there when I fished spinners a lot and tore them up. Another section of good riffles is by the hatchery outlets in zone 2. This is the location I caught a 4" rainbow with parr marks and white tipped fins...kind of made me wonder about successful spawning.
  3. Yeah, it was roughly two and a half years ago and printed in Nov if I am not mistaken...but you know how that goes
  4. The lake where this fish was caught, the catchers of it, had caught numerous 30+# fish before, so it is not an anomaly in this fishery...just a VERY large fish. Likely about to die anyway, but nice catch.
  5. "Rubbing is Racing" You know that racing is seen differently now than when Sr was racing, right? Now, they penalize you if you bump someone, while then, you could wreck someone for the win. Then it was considered ok, now it is forbidden to have a personality besides the corporate kiss-butt that NASCAR wants to see. The drivers I like, are not above bumping, wrecking, or rubbing for a win. People need to realize that racing is different now, it has the most sponsorship of any pro sport in this country, and because of that, these sponsors want to see their cars finish the races, not end up wrecked because they pissed someone off by cutting them off on lap 54. "I'm not sure you have been following he saga very closely. If you had, I am quite confident you would not have wrote that." Chief, all Jr wants is to live up to his father's legacy. Driving for Hendrick, he will not get that. his talents are not where his father's were. he is much more marketable, and on a team where his father created it for HIM, he had creative abilities beyond what Hendrick will allow. Had he stood up to his self righteous (b****) of a step-mother, he could have ran the show over there, but he wanted to leave there to run for a championship with Hendrick. So, yes, he deserves all of the blown motors, all of the bad luck, and more wrecks this year than last. I have never been a Jr fan, and this whole thing has made it worse. I see him as someone who would rather take his 17 wins to Hendrick to try to run with Jeff and Jimmie, than try to build the team his father built into a contender. I cannot stand people like that.
  6. Ok, let me say this once...this pain is why I fish fiberglass. Graphite IMO (and a few others I am sure) causes your body to have to do more of the work of casting rather than letting the rod work. These rods (well not the new broomsticks) are designed to flex and load and release the line. What model St Croix are you using? I had an 8' 4wt Premier, and have right now (my only plastic rod) a 9' 5wt Avid. Both load well on short casts with the appropriate line. If it is your first time casting with your first rod, you might get one of the Rio Mainstream lines or the SA Headstart lines. Both have a short front taper designed to maximize the input you give the rod. With fly casting the line makes the difference. Do not cheap up on your line. You can economize on reel most of the time, but rod and line are two essentials. Now for the stroke, you have been told 10-2 right? That is only partly true. You are stopping the forecast at about 1030ish, and on the backcast, do not pass 1230 or 100. Also, if you watch your line unroll behind you you will see when to start and stop your stroke. ALso, on the stop, you need to STOP. STOP it as solidly as you can. If when you stop, if your hand keeps moving, that is called creep, if it goes backwards on the backcast, it may add distance, but that is not the goal here. When you reposition your hand forward on the backcast, it shortens the stroke of your cast and therefore kills all forward momentum on your cast, killing your loops. Practice, practice, practice.
  7. I have one gripe here..."In 1980 the agency began stocking German brown trout, which grow to even larger sizes than rainbows" They do? I believe the world records of the two fish would care to fight this out... Rainbow-43.6lbs Brown-40.4lbs Now, I do not doubt there are larger fish of both species around, but thus far, that statement is not true... Otherwise, way to go printing things that were printed two years ago in MO game and fish.
  8. What I was told at the Olathe store was that these were the Rio Classic lines, but had a paint flaw from the factory. Rather than retool all of their boxes for the almost salmon color rather than chartreuse, they blew them out. My BPS store was out by an hour after they opened. I was disappointed, but what can you do?
  9. Could not have happened to a nicer person...
  10. my kid loves cars! may have to grab one of them next time i get up that way
  11. Ok, I will cave, if you buy the reel, you can get a brand new WF5F Wonderline for $10 more. It was only cast once. Also, the price on the reel is $105 shipped.

So tubing in the lake is illegal?
  13. I have a Penn 320. Wait, sorry, that was off topic.
  14. I love open wheel racing, and the unification of IRL and Champ Car again made me want to jump for joy! I cannot wait to see the BIG Indy 500s again where the headline is not Danica Patrick (and her lack of finishing races well), but how good the competition is. That, and my favorite is all of the dirtrack racing on Speed. I record most of them, especially the World of Outlaws stuff. I just cannot fathom the thrill of sliding sideways at over 100mph and being in "control"

    Creek Fish

I hear that one! I am grabbing a short 3/4 wt rod this spring and am excited to chase fish in creeks as narrow as 10' in places. I guess then, my flies and tactics will work marvelously!

Can you wade or put a tube into the lake?
  17. I have here, a brand new St Croix Avid 9' 5wt 2pc rod for sale. I have only lawn cast the rod ONCE. I bought it new in January and am needing to sell it. I got it at a pretty good price, so I will offer it to you at a good price. $130 shipped. Also, it makes a killer combo with the reel I have up on this site for sale also. Brand New Orvis Battenkill Mid Arbor III...all bought on the same day. $110 shipped for the reel For the combo, I would say $230 shipped for the combo. The rod carries a lifetime warranty through St Croix, and is one of the sweetest casting graphite rods I have ever cast. I bought this all new and just need to sell to make room for more gear. Thanks for looking! Make me an offer if you are interested in any of it. THis stuff needs to leave, so a reasonable offer won't be refused. Let me know.
  18. I too had the Three Forks 3wt and LOVED it. I caught hundreds of gills on it in one summer. I sold it and made more than my money back on it with a little SA reel. You made a great choice

  20. Hey all, thanks for looking. I am looking to sell off my BRAND NEW (mounted on rod ONCE, and that was to lawn cast) Orvis Battenkill Mid Arbor III. It is the titanium color, and has box, papers, spool tender, and Orvis green soft case. The price would be $115 shipped USPS Priority with insurance. PM me on here and let me know you want it. First I'll take it to this PM inbox gets it.
  21. Nice report Jeremy! I am looking to hopefully get down to the midwest's #1 trophy factory sometime this spring...
  22. Weighted or not, this is the most effective fly I have ever used!
  23. Natural...hmm...I will bet you love your smallmouth bass in the southwest portion of the state too? How about hybrid stripers? You will never get away from introduced species. NEVER. It is impossible. For one, up here in my local lakes, there are smallmouth, wipers, walleye, bluegill, redear sunfish, carp (the most prolific introduced species), etc...
  24. You realize Trav that you have again contradicted yourself. You said, "Well, As far as the walleye, or any fish for that matter. if it has no chance to be a viable self sustaining population then stocking should cease. It just a waste of money. There are lots of other species to pick from that can and will manage without being milked and coddled." You are against having trout in Taney, or anywhere in the state, save the few locales where they do reproduce, if I am reading this correctly, and yet you live on, and promote one of the finest trophy trout fisheries in the world that is filled with mature fish in a sterile environment, and therefore cannot sustain itself.
