  1. Does that mean you're a lepor? Or are you saying you ate an armidillo?
  2. You know I haven't had any experience with Cabelas reels, I have a couple of their fly rods and I like them just fine. I know that for an additional 15 dollars you can get a G. Loomis Venture, which can easily handle a carp and has an increadibly smooth drag. I think flyrise by Ross is only 115 right now, or you could always go for the Lamson Konic 3.5 which runs 140. Either of those 3 should be a great investment. I have a lamson Guru right now and love it, but the same drag is in the Konic to my understanding. I had a Venture 7, and that was a great reel. It's heavy, but that drag IMO makes up for the wieght. The Loomis is a great reel even though it's not a large arbor, I can vouch for that. If you're worried about backing, use the more expensive backing that is thinner. Having said that, the Konic is probably better, but again it depends on what you can afford here. I haven't tried out the RLS, but I've heard good things about it. However if I were you, I would try it out before I bought it to make sure that this is what you are looking for in a reel. Good luck.
  3. Not that I have ever wanted to eat the darned things. But apparently they have been linked to leprosy. So, the next time you have wild hair, don’t eat an armadillo. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42788111/ns/health-infectious_diseases/?gt1=43001
  4. That's more than depressing to read, it's downright stupid. I'll leave my views of the 2nd amendment out of this. Look, in no way shape or form do you ever have the right to use lethal force to defend property. This guy is an idiot, I hope he gets the needle in all honesty. Should someone be on your property illegally? Of course not, but this is why we have police, so that peaceful resolution of problems may occur. I'm all for one defending their property, but by the use of reasonable force. This is also why I have repeatedly stated that if you are a landowner and there is a person illegally on your property, but not in your house, leave the darn gun at home. Nothing good can come from having a gun when there is a tresspasser on your property. Either call the cops, or kindly ask the guy to leave. If he doesn't leave, then call the darn cops/sheriff. But bringing a gun down to a situation like this only escalates the tension, and may lead to front page news.
  5. I ain't lying. . . I know that its good for something. I'm like a kid right now, its from a reputable source, and no I'm not going to sell this one on ebay. It's kind of funny how I got it. I orginally ordered dark barred ginger, and I get an email back from a nice lady who said and I quote "I'm sorry, we're out of dark barred ginger. Is there any way that you would accept cree as a substitute." I started laughing in the middle of class. But seriously, is there any use for creek outside of tying an Adams variant. If you guys want, pm me and I'll tell you what store it was, she sounded like she had a few extra capes.
  6. I just boght a cree saddle hackle from whiting. I was wondering if anyone knew of the uses for these feathers. I've always wanted one, never had an opportunity and today I had the chance to get one for 55 dollars and couldn't pass it up. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  7. Agreed, a black tungsten bead would be a great addition. You could make one with a yellow body, and then I would personally think a yellow body with a copper bead would be a go getter.
  8. Yeah, still hate to see it though. I hope everyone is ok that is affected by this flood. I have been blessed, Topeka hasn't had much rain at all. I wish we could take some of the weight off of Southern MO and Northern Arkansas shoulders.
  9. Add a bead on that and that would be a really nice one.
  10. I just can't believe those pictures, I hope everyone is safe. Looks like there is more rain coming on the radar. Be safe everyone.
  11. No problem man. I'm a fisherman, and trust me I do love our freedoms. It's something that I truly do cherish. In about two weeks and two days I will be back down on Crane, waiving a stick at some wild trout, which is all the freedom one could ever hope for IMO. Peace guys, finals coming up.
  12. No, it's not quiz time. It's just that the parties are really divided on this, and one side says one thing, and well you know. . . The commerce clause is a broad power that congress has, and just about everything is commerce. Which is why it shocked me to here a court going against this. Trust me, I love freedom as much as anyone else does. I also love independence. I'm just not convinced that one party, or the other, has the answers. And with todays political scene, we have less compromise. I could care less who is in office so long as they actually represent the people and not a special interest group. Lately we haven't had a congress who was willing to do this. And still, we ignore the national defecit like the fat girl at prom. Lots of stuff needs fixin' and I don't think we're on a quick pace to make changes.
  13. Not to take a stab at someone, but can you tell me, with citing to the constitution, why the health care bill was held to be unconstitutional? Just wondering, it seems lately that this term is thrown around quite a bit. And I'm not saying that you don't know it, I just want to see how you know it. I'm not a health care plan supporter, just in case anyone is wondering.
  14. So taxes is what we want to get on now? You guys crack me up and I can see why chambug posted up his plea. Look, you can't cut taxes and get yourself out of debt at the same time. The whole flat rate tax thing is a joke, I've talked about this with my professor before. The only reason I don't want to pay more taxes is because of fiscal irresponsibility of our politicians.
  15. Yep, they stock records. I try not to voice my opinion on the matters of records but this seems pretty hollow to me. It would mean a lot more if the record came from the mined lands area. But again, I've never caught a record fish so I should probably shut up
  16. Led Zepplin
  17. "The trout that aren't caught usually die in the summer, though tagged trout have been found to remain alive in the lake for more than a year." Sounds like not many make it, but a few do. However I would think this fish is a stocker from this year, and without tags on it I wouldn't buy that it was a hold over. That above is the major quote of the article, but if you want you can read more here: http://cjonline.com/news/2010-10-30/lake_shawnee_stocked_with_trout I would think the KDWP could tell you more, but I just can't imagine too many surviving
  18. I agree with Tim on this one that this is a run of the mill hatchery trout. I don't see any white on the tips of the fins, and they look pretty rough from what I can see. As far as the "hold overs" I couldn't imagine many. I'll see if I can find that article and link it up here.
  19. The fact that only one is still missing isn't spelling good news.
  20. I don't think this was a hold over fish, but I was just saying that there have been some tagged trout caught in Lake Shawnee which were holdovers.
  21. Yeah, I read something to that extent in the paper last november. Never have been to lake shawnee, even though its right down the street from me. But back to the point, they tag some trout that they stock in the lake, and anglers have caught some trout that have been in their over a year or two. Don't know how many make it. And like bears in the woods, I don't know where they hang out during the summer. I would have to imagine down deep, but I don't know how well the oxygen level would be down there. Anyways, I've heard that there is a trout that is around this size(maybe even bigger) in one of the little ponds in north central kansas, but apparently no one has caught it yet.
  22. I would say that it would take a lot on the part of legislature to kill off revenue, espiecially with our current economic state. Yes, I don't think Elder will be expanded, but again, stare decisis, and these facts match. And I don't see shoal being that small, look at the pictures, and MDC has boat ramps on Shoal. So I'm not sure how the smaller streams would be affected, as we're not really talking about the smaller streams, we're talking about a floatable public way. The court in Elder held that the Maremec was nonnavigable, that's the whole point to the "public way" that I have been referencing. Elder has been cited as recently as 2003 in MO.
  23. You need to be careful when using rope, check out the link that Tim provided. That rope will tangle up in a gars mouth and can make it difficult to remove, and if your line/leader snaps then the fish you hooked into is a gonner. Just make sure to have a strong line if you're using rope, that guy on the blog was using 50lbs to avoid snapping it.
  24. You would think that would be a great way to do it. And that might very well work. Again, you're going to have talk to Prater face to face, maybe a good time to shine your shoes and look your best (and have a pocket gun on you)
