I would like the beats Ideas, but what I run into is the logistics of the access points and the need for so much travel and time to change beats also the need to have volunteers to time and mark the beats. Also the limiting the flies is a unique thought, but as we know fly fisher people have their own invention's of fly patterns that they live by. Most of the fly patterns in an anglers box is unique to the individual. Like me I have flies I use on the Current that I live by. I want to try to get the word out and get a list of folks who would be participants in this event so I have an idea of what to expect the number of anglers to be. I have contacted some of the local clubs and FFF council chapters in the State but Have more work to do on that also.

Thank you for the ideas as this is a first time for this kind of event here. I have printed all the ideas out and I am looking at a plot map of the Current River from the Park boundaries to Cedar Grove and even to Welch Spring. What do you think about including the park fly area in it with some kind of penalty to the anglers that choose to fish it to make it fair to the ones that choose the lower Blue Ribbon area. (say a 6 fish subtraction of overall count?) I like the section off areas per team but I also like the Canoe thing also (Keep the anglers moving and not all in the easy access areas), but this is going to take some (a lot) More planing. I am talking to reps from some for the fly fishing products about sponsorship in the way of added prizes and they seem receiptive to it. I am thinking it would be sometime in July at earliest to get this done. I am trying to work out a way for getting the word out to the Missouri fly fishing community and by the first of July have the teams in place. Thank you guys and gals for your ideas and help so far but please keep it coming. I know we can do this and make it enjoyable for everyone even the non-participating folks.

How much entry fee? To be gave back at 75% as prize money. Big trout and most trout. Depending on how many enters and how much fee is paid someone could have a very good day on the river. I can wrangle up some other entry prizes to be give away also. Like a Grey's Rod & Reel, and fly boxes. I was thinking $50.00 OR More. So do the math for 25 anglers and a 75% pay back. All extra is to be donated to the American Lung Association. I would like to make this an event that would be worthwile to the people who enter and not just a .5 & .10 type event. It would be you guys and gals event.

I noticed on a thread in the forum that a Fly Fishing Tournament in Missouri is hard to find. The topic brought thought to mind about how to set one up that would be fair to both the anglers and the resources used. The majority of the Fly Anglers I know catch & release the fish they catch. So what kind of rules could be put into place to offer up winners. Weight, Length, Dated Photos, I have the resources to sponsor a Fly Fishing Only Tournament on the Current River, But at risk of being called a tree hugger I would not like to see the Blue Ribbon Area of the Current River loose trophy trout at the expense of a Tournament. I have seen the special events held in the park turn nasty with snaggers running the bank looking for big trout. I would like to get information from the people in the know to give me some Ideas of how to set this up. If I can get the plan together I will do my best to set it up for this summer. All the proceeds would go to the American Lung Association. So come on guy's and Gal's Lets see what we can get going and have the first. All I need is Ideas and discussion of how it is going to work. Catch and release only tournament Artificial flies used only All team members must have valid fishing licenses and trout stamps for streams being fished. Angler must be checked out anytime after 7:30 a.m. Angler must be checked back in by 6 p.m. Angler members must adhere to honor code on quantity and length of fish caught All anglers are encouraged to Date & Time stamp digitally photograph catches Photos will be collected at the end of each day Teams must fish within the designated tournament boundary

Any Knowledge On How The Floods Will Affect The River?
Idylwilde replied to Nortrad's topic in Current River
Four days of high water and still up this morning. I would think the river bed will have some changes. Most of the floods at montauk are short one day events but this is a almost week. A lot of sand moveing around. This is a report this morning from Montauk. Report Link -
Yesterday a well known guide at Montauk and Current River lost his rod on the highway. It was a custom rod made by Charley Reading and had a Spring Creek reel on it made by Dutch Reels. I received a message from a young man this morning asking if I could help him find the owner. (Owners Name On Rod) Long story short: The rod was returned to the owner. I was so glad to see that there is still folks out there that would be honest and do things like this especially with big dollar things like this, in these day and times. I have known the owner of the rod for years and I know he would have done the same thing in return.

I went to Baptist Camp at 10:30 am on Sunday, and wadded down stream for 2 miles. The first 300 yards below the put in was pretty good with 4 Rainbows taking an egg pattern (Tri Color). Then I had only three more bows in the rest of the hike. The thing that has me worried is I only had one brown and he was only 6" long. Then on the up stream return I was without a take until I got back to within sight of the access. This was a very unusual day to say the least. I tried mergers, scuds. crackle backs, and egg patterns, but only the egg pattern would raise a fish. I only saw one brief hatch and that was caddis. No surface action at all. On the way back I talked to four anglers and they mirrored what I had done, all small rainbows and all within a short distance from the put in. In the past years I have never fished that section without at least three of four brown's and all good sized. All but one of the bows were in the shoots going into the holes. 3' to 5' deep swift water. The biggest Bow was in the lower end of a hole in 1' or less. I did see some small bows chase the egg pattern but not act like they wanted it. I was using a 7X tippet and by the color of the water I would have thought could have used a 5X. I fished the under cut banks and banks, around rocks, under trees, everywhere That browns like to hide. I front was coming in and the temp was 86 degrees with a south wind at about 25mph. No canoes, or disturbing events were going on. I guess that is why they call it fishing and not catching. But the lack of brown trout kind of makes me wonder, (What's up with that?)

I was looking at the Cut Throat Hand woven leaders at the fly shop yesterday. I have never used them and would like to get more information on how the work for the guy's who have used them.I was intrested in the 76" 4-6# Ultimate Dry Fly in green, & the Medium 4-6# 50" Nymph Green. Both treated to float.

What Happened To Jenny @ The Station?
Idylwilde replied to jnorman's topic in Truman Tailwater/Upper Osage River
I was in there Wednesday and it hasn't changed hands yet but it's for sale. I guess the partnership broke up or something. The inventory is a little on the short side. Sitll a good place to pick up tackle for Catfish and White bass. -
This is a good report for Upper Current River & Montauk Page Facebook Page Link

I was reading through this and the thought crossed my weak little mind: What if it was State owned hatchery's that were in question here? Do we close the warm water or cold to bring State Budgets back? All kinds of species are in both State & Federal hatchery's , What Species would we cut? Could we turn all the hatcheries over to private investors along with licensing the anglers? Do we have a crystal ball to see where this could all lead? Just a few things that entered my weak little mind while I looked at this issue.

Need Help To Straiten Rod
Idylwilde replied to CLINTC's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
LOL Even with that it should not be twisted if it was a good rod! -
Need Help To Straiten Rod
Idylwilde replied to CLINTC's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I was just wondering how was it your fault? A $200.00 rod can't be that easy to twist, Store it in the furnace room at temp of 180 for a month? or the rod was wrong right from the start. I would be contacting the CO that made it. -
How Many Park Rangers Are Needed?

How Many Park Rangers Are Needed?
Idylwilde replied to lovetofish's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
I for one appreciate the Rangers and conservation for the turn out for a event like this! I have seen post like this on the Missouri Department Of Natural Resources page and Just wondering if it is just a grudge against the Rangers that have bled on to here? But Thank you Rangers and Agents for what you do to make our sport safer and more family friendly! -

Floatmaster Indicators
Idylwilde replied to Ham's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I like the dead drift indicators from fish pimp. they will not slip on a roll or back cast. -
If you want to pay for a big named product to impress folks great, but for a camera that does all of the great things at 1/2 the cost you might want to save a few bucks and look at this. Fuji
