  1. Anyone hear about the big fish being placed on the Lunker Board that were actually caught at Rock Bridge and weigh in at the lodge to try and impress folks? Two 10# and a 9#. That really causes people to do stupid things.
  2. We want to thank all the people and vendors that made this event a success and especially the Missouri Trout Busters and the Cole Family who did such a great job of feeding and entertaining the people. The Music was outstanding along with the Bar-B-Q supper and breakfast that was served. This was the first year we have hosted the event and are planing for next year to be even bigger and better. We raised over $4000.00 for the Vets & saw many people make new friends & learn about fly fishing for the first time. That was what it was about. We want to thank Bill & Patty Traw of the Mammoth Spring Campground for all the help and support they gave to the event. I would also like to thank Steve Brigman of the Trout Bum Pod cast for being here and we will post a link to the podcast as soon as it is online. And last but not least The tying Bench Television Show with Mark VanPatten for the special they will air on PBS about the event. Thank you all for what you did for the event. The Photos are of the anglers who enterd the 2+2 and the winner Dave Reed who won with a 16.5" fish. Note he gave the $386.00 rod back to healing Waters Who sold it to an active duty vet for $300.00 that went to Healing Waters.
  3. I was lucky enough to have been invited along with Sam Portter of (Tightline Guide Service) to assist the MDC on a trout survey of the Blue Ribbon area from Tan Vat to Baptist Camp. I won't go into what we found but I will say there are some nice Brown Trout and Rainbows to play with in this section of the river. I will say that I am hopeing for some changes to the regulations after the data is compiled and looked at..These guys do a great job and a hard job at doing these survey's.
  4. This weekend the event is on. Nice weather is in the forecast! Two cabins still available.
  5. Either one of them would fly fish for shark if there was a vote on the shark. Them claim they were life long fly anglers. I think that Obama got his fly rod from a lobiest, and I would bet good money the other guy will have one before this mess is over.
  6. I spent two day's on the Spring River last week and had a ball catching stocked trout. The mid day fishing was slow & I moved around a lot First in the main river at dam 3. I caught 6 fish on white woolley's and that was about all. I moved to Laseter and took 4 better sized fish on a white Trout Magnet. I finished the day at the falls and deep holes at Mammoth Spring Campground. About 5:30 in the afternoon a black Caddis hatch started. They were huge and this is when the fun started. I did not have a fly in the box to match the size of the hatch, but I tied on a #12 yellow and black crackle back. I hooked up with 14 fish in 30 minutes. If they didn't hit it on the dry drift I just pulled it under and stripped it back. Most of the time it only took about two or three strips and the fish took it. The fish were just about 25 yards above the falls and laying over and around the big rock's. I have noticed that this section of the river has some what less pressure as other sections above and below. The wading can be tough but if you move slow your ok. There was a huge brown trout feeding just below the falls but it was not interested in any thing I had to offer. Mammoth Spring Campground is about the only access to this section of water as a wader, When I say Mammoth Spring Campground it's not the big campground just across the Highway 63 bridge. You drive across the big parking lot at Goose Neck island and look for a road that goes down the hill just after the log building. Nice quiet place.
  7. We would like to post a special THANK YOU to Phil (Lilly's Landing) for the tying bench he donated to the event! Anyone who comes to the event will be in awe of the amount and quality of the items we have that will be offered at the event.
  8. I understand that Texas County is loosing deer to Blue Tounge in the past week or so. I have talked to three people who have seen the deer drop dead on their farms. Anyone else heard of this?

  10. 65 degrees this morning heading to a high of 88. Now were talking nice weather for a change. Fishing on the river has improved a bit in the last couple day's. The trico hatch is still going on early in the day & some nice sized fish are sipping size 20-24 female trios off the film. The crackle back bite over the grass beds are the best bet during the high sun part of the day, and the egg patterns and San Juan Worm is also a good bet for hooking up with a good sized trout. Some trout in the 2# range are on the stringers this morning out of the bait area. The Secret Bait (Brand Name) is the best of the dough baits and the Red Hot Salmon eggs are the next best. Fish are still shade holding during the day and will shy away from any fly or bait that is presented on any line bigger than 2# test. A 7 or *X Fluorocarbon line is best used to get more takes. The Trilene and Maxima is just not the line that you want to use to get the most from your presentations. The Insta-set indicators used with the sow bug type flies are the best bet to see that soft take and get you hooked up. The water is as clear as I have ever saw it up in the spring area. This weekend is going to be a great time to get out and enjoy the outdoors. So come and enjoy some trout fishing in the great Ozarks outdoors.
  11. Thank You Bob A for the flies you sent they was great and the guy's will love them. Thanks again and if you can get away come on over and enjoy the day with us.

  15. Project Healing Waters is coming to Reed's Cabins and Montauk on September 28th- 29th 2012. Veterans form MO,AR,TN,KS,OK, will travel to Montauk to take part in this event. The national PBS television show The Tying Bench by NICHE productions will be filming a one hour special to be broadcast on PBS. Also FFF certified casting instructors will be helping with the event. Fly tying will also be a part of the event. The public is invited to the event and take part in showing these guy's and gal's the appreciation we have for them by helping them out in anyway you can see fit. If you tie flies and want to donate five or six they will be raffled off at the vent, or you just want to come see and talk to the guy's and gal's it would be appreciated by all. This event is not about catching fish it's about fighting back the depression and learning to adapt to an outdoor activity with the disability they have. We are not looking for a hand out or money and everything that is donated goes straight to Project Healing Waters. The Missouri Trout Busters are working with us on this event also. If your not familiar with Project Healing Waters here is a link to their web address. http://www.projecthealingwaters.org/ More information on this event you can contact. 573-548-2222. As with any event of this sort them may be things added as we grow closer to the event and we will keep people posted to any changes. healing waters.pdf
  16. I thought that it was special seeing the little girl asleep on daddy's shoulders and him fishing with her little pink rod, so couldn't help but snap the photo. You don't see many dads that will go that far sharing a fishing outing with his daughter.
  17. Your right laker67 that is what I was meaning " a few spoil it for all".
  18. White or any jig outside the mouth. Need I say more?
  19. A few spoil it for all! I think is what they are saying about the lunkers and sight anglers.
  20. Size 12-18 Dry fly hook of your choice white or green tread Holographic tinsel small Grizzly hackle for the hook size. simple and quick.
  21. I remember when Senator Danny Staples tried to get a law passed in MO for it to be legal to kill Copperheads on sight. Didn't pass. He had almost had been bitten while working on his tractor. I guess I am a law breaker. LOL
  22. Get hold of Tim at Tim's fly shop he will get you set to catch fish. You can find information on the Trout Park section at Ozarkanglers.com.
  23. How do you answer the question "What time will you be home?" when I don't know will not work. I have tried when you see me, when the fish stop biting, before dark, and none of them seem to work. In about an hour seems to bring a smile. Till I get home 4 hours late then the smile is gone.
  24. Idylwilde

    Bugs

Bluegill Food!!!! Hang a trap over the water and the pearch will gather under it all day. Their bellys will be full.
  25. HOT!!! is the word on the weather. And the fishing is a bit slow during the mid-day hours. The fishing is fair in the shade on dry flies. The early hours spinner baits like the rooster tail is good on spin cast, and dough bait is catching fish early and late. When the hatch is going on in the early hours from 6:30 to 9:00 a.m. you have to match the size to it. one size bigger or smaller the fly will be left in the drift. Color is not as big a deal as long as it is not something wild and not in the close range of color. My advice for this week is to get out early and watch for a hatch, rest in the shade and watch for any feeding, fish the shade next to bank and over the grass beds, and as the sun settled off the water move around and look for activity on the surface. Some good fishing can be had if you pick your spots and watch what is going on then work it. For the most action 8X tippet and small #20-26 flies are the best right now in Olive and Cream colors. Caddis hatch has been very slow and far in between. Trico and Midge is the big hatches about every day. Also watch for the beetle drifting in the water. The Japanese beetles have come to the area in the last week. These little guys are not great at flying and make a splash down in the river. Once they hit the water they quickly turn into trout food. So come in and pick up a few of our beetle patterns. If it changes I will let you know. But the forecast does not look good for the rest of this week. So far the spring's that feed Current River are holding up good.
