  1. I agree with the Capt. You can't go wrong with Bennett.
  2. Congrats Michael and the misses! Kids are great, aren't they! John
  3. Count me in if possible. I've never been on the Buffalo, but I'm always game to check out new waters. John
  4. My brother-in-laws noodle in Oklahoma all the time. They seem to enjoy it very much. As for me? In one of my weaker, and more stupid moments, I agreed to go with them. They found a big cat in a hole under a rock and assigned me the task of blocking another hole so that it couldn't get out. Well the long and short of it; the cat decided to exit his home through the hole I was blocking. If you've ever had a big cat run down the underside of your belly it's an experience everyone should have once, only once! I'm glad the water was running cause it cleaned my shorts for me! That was the first and last time I've been. If you like, go for it! Me, I'm the one with the rod and reel. John
  5. I'm planning on being there. I'm putting in for my days off next week. Anyone else from the forum going? Interested in a group supper and maybe some fishing? John
  6. Welcome Steve - it's nice to see another navy man on here. That now makes it two to one in favor of the sailor over the marines! John
  7. I love this new topic! Building a fly rod is my next great adventure. I've been reading up (and getting very confused) so this topic will help out a lot. My question . . . what's the chance of having a rod building class similiar to the fly tying class? I live almost 3 hours away, but with the planning I sure would make the trip for a class. Thanks, John
  8. Hey Randall, I just got back from Hobby Lobby and they have a big selection of the PrismaColor pens. I compared prices with Cabela's and Hobby Lobby was the same, about $3.45 a pen. John
  9. "I just worry about those tires going over the gravel bars. Talk about "shuffling"..." Now that's funny!
  10. "Could you put a bead on a renegade and fish it under an indicator at Bennet and do good with it?" Not sure? I have never tired it, but what they hey? Give it a try and let us know how it works. John
  11. GREAT looking fly. I'm going to set down and tie some up now. Thanks for the pattern. John
  12. Some very good comments and suggestions have been made. I would like to put my .02 in. I agree that there are a lot of rules on the books. But that's the case in all avenues of law enforcement and life. Are some un-enforceable? Maybe so, but the fact that their there makes you think a litle harder when contemplating breaking them. Like the highway patrolman and your speed! I think a shuffling law would give some reason to think. Especially if an agent is around. Is he hiding in the bushes and watching? Is the trooper just around the bend in the road? Hummmm. Some just don't care and will do it anyway. That's life. But more, I believe, will give some thought about it before doing it. I also agree with maybe stocking fewer fish and opting for the better/bigger fishery than overpopulating. The concept of catch all the fish you can regardless of size; is that not what the "trout parks are for?" I'd rather have bigger and better fish in Taney. If I want to catch fish, I'll go to one of the parks. If I want to catch "quality" fish, I'll go to Taney. Maybe I'm all wrong in my thinking, but that's the way I see it. John
  13. I've always had good luck with the crackleback, griffith's gnat, and renegade. Also the scud and microjigs can't be beat. John
  14. ILLEGAL John
  15. Well said Bob! I too can forgive the average person for their behavior. Most don't realize what they're doing and apologize as soon as they realize it. Besides, I'm sure in my time I have stepped on a few toes as well. But guides ARE a different subject. They are suppose to be professionals and are held to a higher standard. I think I've had a run in with they same guiding company you speak of. John
  16. Hey Dano, I've got the dates on my calendar for the sowbug and I'm making plans on attending. I'll get a hold of you later and maybe we can hook up for some "hook-ups." John
  17. Thanks guys. I checked out their site. Looks interesting. I've been considering a new rod, may have to look into these. BTW, when is the sowbug this year? I've always wanted to make it but work always seems to interfere. Maybe this year?
  18. I'll admit I've not been after carp with a fly rod, but some of my fondest memories as a child is fishing for carp with my granddad. We'd use cane poles and dough balls. If I was lucky I'd get to use his Zebco 33! He used to make his dough balls out of grape soda and Wheaties! What a fun time it was.
  19. DITTO! Something about breaking ice to set your decoys and waiting for the green heads to appear! Man-o-man what a time! It's funny how the cold doesn't seem so cold when your duck hunting.
  20. Life would be so good without work! Maybe we can get lucky enough to have some time off and try the Arkansas. John
  21. Okay guys, I'm ready! When we going?
  22. I think it's a bead thorax pheasant tail.
  23. Fox, I'm not familiar with this rod manufacturer. Where could I find some info on them? Thanks. John
  24. Ouch! What are the odds of that happening! Good video.
  25. It's got my vote. We can afford to leave the big ones alone for a bit. Let romance work it's wonders and then we'll have even bigger ones in the future! John
