Park on the Northern side of the bridge.
  3. However, it is doable. Just expect to get out a few times.
  4. Well I had to get back out there after the day I had Wednesday. All I can say is that Im glad I did. I had my girlfriend along with me so I got a lot of pic and a movie I hope to add on later. All the fish were caught on an Eakins Jig and Craw. All were caught down stream of green bridge. Smallies and Largies were stacked up under semi submerged logs like caned sardines, and closer to the bank. The water we fished was only 2-3.5 feet deep. Any other questions please ask? Here are some pics... This one was the best of the day and Id put him in my top 5 best smallies out of the Finley he was right at 14 inches long.
  5. Sad to say it gets very shallow. Iv been out there every week since Summer and we fish green bridge (both up and down stream) and you have to get out a lot and there is a lot of dragging even in kayaks...
  6. Went to Green Bridge and decided to fish below the bridge. Me and a buddy took the kayaks out and we fished Eakins Jig with the Eakins Craw. (Thanks to Troy Eakins son who is in my youth group at church lol) We tore up some smallies, here are some pics... Great fishing but good golly it was SOOO HOT! All of these fish were so full of craws their bellies were crunchy.
  7. Im looking to buy this set up. If your interested in selling one please let me know. Thanks.
  8. What size of SA Mastery line?
  9. Where do you buy your larger subsurface flies that are about 3-4 inches long? Im looking for long fly that looks like a worm. Any ideas?
  10. There should be a club SA (stands for Smallies Anonymous) "Hi my name is Travis" "HI TRAVIS!" "Iv been a smallie addict for _____ yrs"
  11. Im wanting to purchase a fly rod and reel that will be best suited for smallies? Please send links or specific brands so I can look up prices. FYI I still really stink at understanding the fly fishing lingo for now so my apologies.
  12. Its very true. Thats the good thing about the Finley, its got a lot of little springs that really help a ton when the temps are this high. Thats one of the first things you notice when you wade that river. One spot is very hot the next is like an ice cube.
  13. Iv noticed these black spots on their bellies as well. I read an article that talk about black spots that occur on the fins and it was parasitic. However, Iv caught around 30 that have had these black spots on their underbellies. However, not all smallies have these dots.
  14. Well my buddy and I went out yesterday and fished above Green Bridge. We caught a smallies and a few largies. the fish just wernt biting like they had been so we broke out the fly rod and fished little bopper and caught a mess of pan fish and the biggest perch Iv ever caught. We started to head back and saw a really good size LMB patrolling in about 2ft of water. So we followed the fish for a bit and my buddy said it was hiding under a log. I went over to that log didnt see anything. So I decided to head back, but when I did I remembered that the fish was on the other side of the river, and that there was an uprooted tree that its roots were half submerged in the water. I look at my buddy and say "If I was a LMB I would be right here." (Cast) Then bang my lure gets rocked. A few minutes later...d My buddy said how did you call that?!? Ha I guess if you call it enough you will get lucky once.
  15. Yeah I park there all the time (at least once a week) and Iv never been warned or ticketed. *Knock Knock Knock
  16. Taking the kayaks out tomorrow to fish up steam of Green Bridge. Going for Smallies! I'll have a report and pictures tomorrow night.
  17. Two Words... UGLY STICK
  18. I want to begin tying my own flies for bass fishing. Any advice on kits and tools?
  19. I use a Maxpedition FATBOY Versipack. Maxpedtion makes the best packs one could ever buy. Its just the right size to hold all the gear you need and its very comfortable. Its built like a tank, light weight (depending on how much gear you take with you), CCW compatible, water resistant, easy to clean, and just an all around killer bag!
  20. Im taking a buddy of mine fishing on the james sometime this coming week. I get in under 65, and paddle downstream to the rail road bridge. We always have a ton of luck with plastics and I know what works. However, I was wanting some advice from all you fly fishers out there that have fished the james before (because I have not). Im planning on using wooly buggers (which I have had some success with on smaller rivers). Any other flys i should try out? And does anyone have any good fly fishing spots?
  21. Went fishing today with the wooly bugger, and here is a picture of my first smallie on a fly rod... I bought an assortment of wooly buggers. I have to say that I really like how the fly is weighted slightly. What other fly lures are weighted like this?
  22. Iv been having a ton of luck on this soft plastic worm. It has a 1/16 or a 1/8 jig head on it. If been catching a TON of smallies and a few very nice sized largies. I believe the trick is to make the plastic smaller to catch more fish. However, the better quality (on average) is found by casting a larger plastic. Here is a pic of what iv been using. Iv also had better luck with a dark green like this or anything dark in color.
  23. Well I finally made it out to a store and I bought an assortment of wooly buggers. I'm thinking that I'll have more luck with the ones that are weighted on the front, because Iv been fishing with jig heads and catching a TON of smallies on them. I have plans to head out Wednesday morning an try my luck. Just really hoping for a good fight on the fly rod.
  24. Went fishing a few days ago and only caught a bunch ok these (sunfish) they were the only thing hitting my poppers. I popped them by cover and let them drift. No bass just the sunfish. Im going to try and get a variety of different lures for smallies and try it out some time this week (work depending). Thanks for the advice. Ill post what I buy and my results and hopefully some pics!
  25. FIRST CRAPPIE!!!! I'd never fish for them again! Lol very nice fish
