  1. When the water temps get cooler, you can catch them on just about anything. Don't discount topwater either when the water temps are above 55 or so. I usually fish jigs and crankbaits for the fall. Don't be surprised if you catch your biggest bass of the year. Edited to say....Don't forget jerkbaits when the water temps are below 50
  2. Some days the fish just don't bite no matter what you do!
  3. Let's hope! How was your trip west Mike?
  4. Well it seems the river levels are so low the fish are hungry and don't have as many places to hide. The reports of fish over 18" are numerous. Jets can't get thru the normal spots, which is a good thing for the fishing. At first I was concerned that this low clear water might last until gigging season and create a mass slaughter. Now I think the only holes getting gigged will be the ones within a half mile of the boat ramp.
  5. I bought a couple of the Rick Clunn Wart Hogs which are a knock off of the old Warts from Lucky Strike lures. They have had quality issues in the past and I hope they have them worked out. I'll test them this fall.
  6. I was in the process of putting on replacement trebles, I'm a sucker for them. I even add them to brand new high end lures. It's all about confidence.
  7. What is going to happen tomorrow? Been out of the loop due to a heavy work schedule. That guy that Obama said started my business for me is never around when you need him
  8. Well, I had to throw bait in there so it would sound like a fishing forum post.
  9. You baited us into this subject and this iz all u got?
  10. Good stuff The reason for the question is because I'm using a straight shank hook for some big worms and also developing a pattern for my craw with a straight shank hook. I think the hook up ratio is better.
  11. I think Drew pretty much nailed it
  12. I know Rick LaPoint is high on the drop shot at TR. I've kind of come to the same conclusion on my plastics as you, the less action the better.
  13. Sometimes I like the molded in hooks, but like flysmallie says, the pegged TR gives it more freedom to the plastic. Also IMO, the TR weights allow you to use a straight shank hook that's got advantages as well.
  14. What do you guys use to peg your TR weights with? Toothpicks always work, there have been a few new products in the last few years.
  15. Saw the same thing once with a guy that was obviously goose hunting with goose decoys but blowing a duck call. I'm sure no one at the round table knew the difference.

    Drought?

Agree we are coasting. The USA reminds me of hundreds of companies that were started by a hard working genius that was creative and found a niche. Then raised a family and gave them the things he never had as a child. His company grew like crazy until the spoiled pot smoking kid took over the family business and ran it into the ground. I agree Al we ain't what we used to be.
  17. Loved the shot looking across the gravel beach at the fog on the water, made me wish I was launching my boat.

    Drought?

In America we are lazy about learning other languages indeed. Since English is the international business language it's imperative that everyone learns English if they want to do business internationally. I've taken 2 Chinese courses and our daughters go to Chinese school every Sunday after church near Manchester rd.in St Louis. Our problem in America in a nutshell ( economically and socially, not environmentally) is that ( quoting Thomas Sowell) " we abandoned things that worked for us so many years for things that sounded good".

    Drought?

Well, I can only go by the experience i've had in the last 8 years since I met my wife, who is chinese. China has known for a long time that education is the ticket. All of my wifes friends over here have at least their masters and most have a phD. However, Jerry is right in almost everything he says. Though they may not mostly be educated here, the best of the chinese are, and want to stay here to get out of the pollution in China. Every business in China is controlled by the government, pretty much no exceptions. I also agree with Jerry that money is king and they really don't care about the rest of the world. They would do absolutely ANYTHING for money. Since cars are becoming big over there now, there is a new market for drivers ed training and auto repair shops. There is a very good chance when you buy gas for your car, it will not run after you fill it up (several people confirmed). They actually water down the gasoline into a soup so it will last longer. One of the big problems in China now is drivers leaving the scene of an accident, not because they are afraid of going to jail, but because they are afraid of paying the fine. The pollution is so bad in the big cities that even with no clouds in the sky there is an overcast gray smog that never lifts. You have to dust your tables several times a day to get the soot and dust off. They eat every living thing with no regard for sustainability. China is a amazing cluster of greed and fear, they really have no idea what real freedom is like. They make it work because they are extremely intelligent in math and science, work their asses off and save every penny they have. But they are without a doubt some of the most socially retarded people on earth. America is not perfect but we are the best balance that I know of between China greediness and euro laziness. Yes, that's right... europeans with their 4 day work weeks and bank holidays, no wonder why they have fallen behind the most of the rest of the world in the last 20 years. Sounds like Drew hates the thought of American exceptionalism, but I still believe in American exceptionalism....
