  1. Let's do it!
  2. Around April at TR when everyone else is throwing a smoke colored grub, those beautiful jigs of yours will outproduce!
  3. Only fished with Fred twice and remember he had a disdain for expensive Japanese jerkbaits, he only used a Rogue and always hesitated a couple of seconds longer than everyone else.... He said the really big ones (above 5 pounds) like the slower presentation. Interesting that in the picture he is using a yellow eye rogue instead of a red eye rogue. Usually yellow eyes are floaters not suspenders.
  4. Ron, It's interesting that as of a couple of years ago, Fred McClintock never was a big advocate of the float n fly. Anyway, I agree, Iove this discussion. I also love the fact that the deer hair you use holds the scent and doesnt affect the action. It also may add a little "crunch" when the fish grabs it. That extra 2 seconds of holding on will get him hooked! Ps. I have a crawfish trailer about the same size as the picture........ Gavin, I heard of 2 people who almost got busted for plastics there last week!! The agents were tipped off
  5. You guys all have fantastic looking jigs!
  6. Ron, I too have tied my own jigs for years and I'm fully aware that double weedguards have been around for years. This is different in the sense that the separation at the base makes the effect more pronounced. That's why Bo was able to obtain a patent.
  7. The jig is called "Perfect Strike Jig" , Zipstick turned me on to this a couple of years ago and I have been following it's development since. I actually make a twin wire weedguard version of this that I use for myself. The twin weedguards he refers to as "guides" perfectly place the hook upright every time in the fish's mouth. He has even designed a contraption that simulates a fish's mouth to prove his point. Just a smart guy with some "native shrewdness" as my father used to say. Here is the video link:
  8. Look what just reared it's head again today! http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/world/2012/0225/1224312378260.html
  9. As someone else said, the fish in the pictures were the lucky ones. When Kathy Etling came out with the article a couple of years ago, it seemed to die quickly. This time I'm beginning to feel we have enough pissed off people to actually accomplish something. As many have said, gigging will never be outlawed...I'm going out on a limb and say we should try to completely outlaw gigging. It may be an uphill battle but I think it's an idea that has reached it's time.
  10. One good place to start is getting all gigging banned in the SMA areas. It would be a good way to eliminate the real estate the MDC or whoever would have to police. If someone gigged in the SMA area he would be taking a huge risk.
  11. I'll help in any way I can. I know where I can get some pictures from some buddys.
  12. Nice fish! That's about the biggest river Smallie I've ever seen.
  13. A 100% true statement!! applause! The guys who fish all winter know this but it seems to fall on deaf ears.
  14. Upon further review it was a largie, sorry, my bad
  15. I hope it was a spot, uh oh
  16. Masterful job Al! The spotted bass colors are amazing. I especially like the surface waves visible in the fish's head!
  17. Drew, where do you live? Do you go to any MSA meetings and plead your case? Do you put up any signs? What have you done? Maybe there aren't any signs there because you weren't there to put them up? Stop complaining
  18. Perhaps I can help with clarifying questions: Are you a west county snob, or a south St. Louis redneck? Are you an artsy fartsy central west end type? Or perhaps you have sympathies with an inner city hip urban guy that rents a flat? Or maybe a Webster Groves self righteous type? Do you prononce hwy 44 as Farty Far? Do you think it's cool to shoot a potato cannon? And last but not least, Which high school did you go to? Any answer can help the assessment
  19. Agreed Ness, not happy about it but it's the truth. Hardly anyone on this forum can agree on anything. Like Lincoln said, "you can please some of the people some of the time". I think the MDC will make a decision and we will all live with it...end of story
  20. Government agencies in general tend to forget sometimes they are paid to serve and not annointed to govern. In the case of the MDC, I feel they are generally good guys with a desire to really make things better. They just never work fast enough for me. (except for didymo). I know they have dozens of groups with their own agendas to deal with and probably have to walk the tightrope and can't make any waves.
  21. Great summary...I, like you do feel the MDC is committed to improving the streams for us all. But I want it NOW!!!!!!
  22. Sounds great, let's get some 48-50 degree water and catch some lunkers
