I would have to agree with Smallie on this one. When your wading a stream it is sometimes very hard to stay in the stream bed. I think if you counted every time when you were wading and had to get out of the stream bed because of deep water or you just wanted to approach a rootwad from a different side of the river, you would be surprised how many times you were out of the stream bed. A friend of mine has about 300 yards of river frontage on Joachim creek in Festus. Several times he has had to confront people Trespassing and dragging bass on a stringer 20 yards off the river because it was easier walking. Some people just don't care about other people's property.
I don't know where you live but I would also consider the Bourbeuse river. The good thing for you is it's not that jet boat/gigging friendly. It's a smaller murkier water river that's great for a canoe, not that many put ins and has plenty of bragging size smallmouth and Largemouth. After you catch these large fish please don't thank us or post any pictures of your giant smallmouth...we hate that.
I read this feel like I was there! I agree with cricket, great imagery! I was wondering if you could have caught bigger trout using spinning equipment with jerk baits? I wanted to talk with someone who is good at using both.
I'm 6'1" with a 32" inseam and I made the mistake of ordering "tall" waders. Guess what, you can't adjust the leg length! duh! I should have known better. don't ever make this mistake.
My buddies are form Hot Springs, they fish Hamilton and Ouachita, I tied up some 1/2 oz shad style hair jigs and we electric motor trolled the humps and caught some nice ones. Nothing as big as yours though. I think 36lb was our biggest. I don't think I've ever had a fish fight as hard as a striper. I watched my reel sing for 20 seconds....incredible. Those are some huge fish you caught. Congrats!
I caught a huge Hellbender on a crank bait on the Gasconade about 6 years ago. I really don't think it actually hit the bait but I caught it on the head, I have since found out that they are very rare in Missouri and should have reported it. It was about 20-22"long and weighed at least 2 pounds. It looked like a gila monster with a very fat head.
I released it.
If you have some suggestions lets unite and get mad about it! I don't see any change in direction for the carp situation. It's like a fast moving train that won't stop.
I wish there was a way to stop them and I will be all for volunteering my time and effort to help stop this problem.
Eric, they weren't caught all this year; I didn't know it was supposed to be for this year only. Anyway all the winter pictures are from winter 2009/2010 all on the Meramec, and I put a couple fish from Wisconsin in there sorry
Cricket and Eric, thanks for the kind words
