  1. It really doesn't matter anyway, in 10 years fishing as we know it today will be gone unless something is done about the silver carp. We will be left fishing for stocked rainbow trout at the parks. I'm serious, based on what I have seen this year and the fast rate at which they are coming, the rivers that I fish are done in 10 years. Remember I'm not wading, I run a jet boat and can easily cover 20 miles in one day. I think the Big river and probably even the Bourbeuse are gone even quicker than that. They only way I can see to stop them is to kill all the fish in the river and restock the river. I've heard the juvenile silver carp look just like a shad. People will seine for these and bring them into a lake to use them as baitfish.
  2. nothing, i just love to hear people use buzz words unique to their group and no one else knows what they are talking about. Translated: indicator= bobber, nymphimg=small bugs in the water? midging= Who Knows? it's just funny to me, that's all. Don't get upset.
  3. I just don't have time anymore to learn anything new. I certainly don't think you're an elitist snob. If this whole invasive species thing keeps getting worse, we won't have anything to talk about in 10 years anyway. So it will all be a moot point quicker than we think.
  4. These guys speak a language unknown to me, I agree cricket! Their process reminds me of an old algebra teacher of mine that was so excited about the equation and couldn't give 4 f****ks about the result.
  5. I would say the majority of people fish at at slower speed than you do. You won't catch all the fish in the holes they are moving towards, so I wouldn't worry. If you move past them out of sight and start fishing, you are doing the best you can to make good of the situation.
  6. Since we're talking big largies on the Meramec, here's a couple of examples, one of my brother this summer and one of Zipstick in the winter. I have never seen so many invasive species as I have this year. The area I saw the chinese silver carp so thick were areas I have fished for years and never saw them before. It is very depressing!
  7. Yeah, I agree with you on that one!
  8. I will respect all who respect me. I've had tourney guys act like they own the lake and tried to quickly motor in front of me and fish the water I was obviously going to fish. Just because a guy has chosen to be a professional fisherman doesn't give him a special right of way that I don't have. I will say that he was the exception and not the rule; most pros that I have come across were extremely nice and courteous. It's always the "wannabes" that are the worse.
  9. They have done studies that suggest that on average a married man will outlive a single man....I guess you can only laugh so much until it kills ya
  10. LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  11. I don't use a fly rod but I have three rods that always have braid tied on. I use a double uni knot to attach the the leader material. The suppleness of a leader is of no importance to me because I usually don't use more than a rods length of leader. I was interested to find out if anyone has used the new "Ice" fluorocarbon line? It was developed for ice fishing and apparently has a greater knot and tensile strength in the freezing conditions. Since I do quite a bit of winter fishing this peaked my interest.
  12. I enjoy the bait fish hatch, minnows to be exact. That's when I pull out my favorite Lucky Craft jerk bait at Taneycomo and catch an 18" brown trout on every fifth cast. They slam the bait so hard it almost knocks the paint off. Anther key benefit is I don't need to wear a "gay" Orvis hat. Since I use 8 lb test the fish is still as lively as the second he was hooked, pinch down the barbs and no hook damage either.
  13. Trout park mentality! I had some local A**hole on the Gasconade run in front of me every time I was working my way down a bank. About 4 hours later he was at the boat ramp and said he has lived here all his life and asked if I was from St. Louis and how did I know about this put in. I told him this is a trophy Smallmouth management area and is well known to everyone. He said he never heard of such a thing. Had he not been there with his son I would have told him what I thought about his behavior.
  14. In that case you would need a 12" musky jerkbait with a 6 ft heavy action rod. Then wack them in the face. Good for the old man
  15. I like the Jerkbait, Crankbait, and of course my all time favorite, the jig for fall fishing
  16. Thanks for the idea! I have a portable Humminbird and I'm going to look it up to see if I can get a software update for it!
  17. I'm not sure about the tables either but I always seem to catch the biggest fish between noon and 2pm
  18. I always use 8-10lb fluorocarbon on the crankbaits
  19. Yep, I'm a big fan of the War Eagles too! but I must admit the color you described with a fluorescent orange colorado is a new one for me
  20. come on, I thought it was good
