  1. ok, I'm calling it...... 8lb spinning gear, 10 lb baitcasting
  2. It's fixed now but I like your idea of a rev limiter....have no idea about detonation
  3. Gavin, love the look of that neko rig, gotta try it this year
  4. This was a 100 yard run at full speed to try and get thru a 4" deep riffle about 6 ft wide. cavitated about 4 separate times. Never do that again.
  5. Wrench can second this, Cavitation can be a bad thing
  6. I can help if you need machine shop services to create a new one or modify an old one.
  7. After much thought, buy a 4 stroke engine for your jet, unless you get a killer deal
  8. All I know is when you buzz up river you see the path where jets have gone....they are about 2 ft wide which would lead me believe it was from the pump.
  9. That's what I use for my spinning reels, strong as heck, a little too much memory though.
  10. I agree with you on this point, no one can deny that.
  11. The curmudgeons are the ones catching all the fish!
  12. Just talked with a guy who fished it today and he saw several people trying to entice the fish off their beds with small plastics to no avail. He finally got on a topwater pattern that produced a few fish. He was working a topwater bait slow and just letting it sit there. He thinks topwater at night would be the ticket if you have the chance.
  13. According to the MDC, the biggest problem with our rivers is siltation due to bad land practices. When you add gravel mining, four wheelers, otters, invasive species, cattle and horses, industrial waste, illegal gigging, over harvest, littering, etc. IMO, the jet boats are just another piece of the puzzle that get too much blame. I usually don't take my jet out in the summer because I don't want to interfere with floaters. Heck, I don't even go to the upper end of rivers unless it's flooded. I mainly use it in the winter when it's not practical or safe to go out in a canoe.
  14. Yep, some guy caught a 9 lb largie on the same bluff!! Here it is: http://www.kansasang...smallmouth.html Interesting Eufala is stocked with Tennessee strain smallies
  15. Wow, what a Hog!!!!!! I did some work at a factory in Oklahoma and met the guy who held the record that was just broken. He caught it on a jerk bait in a tourney and didn't even get big fish!
  16. Like everyone else, I was excited to see a knock off of a pre Normark Wiggle Wart. But I heard the bad reviews of them filling up with water and general bad quality control. Has anyone heard if they have their issues worked out? I love the Megabass 110 knock off for $8. Made in Missouri and works well. I just wish they could make the Wart Hog a litte better. I'd buy em cheap and send them down to TrophyFishR to put on a custom paint job.
  17. I think Nugents obsession with Fred Bear kind of creeped me out
  18. I actually wouldn't be opposed to it, it might have an unintended (or not) consequence of helping control the gigging... but it would never happen, you think the gigging lobby is powerful, I can't even imagine all the boat retailers, repair shops, and ALL the people who would raise hell
  19. Can't wait until my youngest gets old enough to take out, looks like a blast!
  20. Let me get this right....you go out on Saturday to the closest recreational river to St. Louis and see 3 jet boats at Garrisons and you want to ban all jet boats??? Now you say we might as well had a dam to the Meramec because of 250 HP jet boats? Which rock have you been hiding under the last 15 years? Jet boats didn't just appear overnight! Your just in lala land to expect to be the only guy on the river on a Saturday. Go float the upper stretch of any stream if you want to be by yourself.
  21. There are three types of jet boat owners IMO. The first is the fisherman who fishes the lower stretches of the rivers and is reluctant to push the boat to the limits in fear of hurting his beautiful boat. The second is the guy who has a beater boat ( like mine) and pushes it to the limit in skinny water to get to the best fishing spots. The third is the guy with the 250hp boat who loves to race up and down the river all day with his best girlie up on the deck. The first type never causes a problem with anyone. The second and especially the third type is the kind of guy who we all hate when we are in a canoe. Many of the Second and third types aren't very respectful of floaters. They wont slow down and usually buzz full tilt within a few feet of floaters and also muddy up the sides of the river possibly messing up fish on spawning beds. BUT..... I've also seen canoers and fisherman who won't get out of the way when they know the only way to get a boat thru a riffle is where they are standing. As in all situations, a little courtesy goes a long way. I usually avoid the upper stretches of a river in the summer when the floaters are out. However, during a flood, I've taken my boat past HWY 8 above Meramec Springs.
  22. This is the Golden Craw that's very common in the Ozark Streams, did it look like this?
  23. I think this is a great topic for a new thread! Ok Al, you first
