  1. As a newbie to fly fishing for smallies last year I can only add a couple things I experienced. 1) If wading you gotta move slow and make long casts...smallmouth are pretty spooky on the small shallow streams. 2) i agree that bigger flies or bigger buggers are probably better. I did not have much luck with the smaller size. 3) I had most of my success throwing poppers of some sort on the shallow creeks. As long as the fish didn't see me I caught them and they would often hit the top water stuff aggresively. If they new I was around forget about it... 4) Fly fishing for smallmouth is a ton of fun...and they way I like to fish them...but your catch rate will decrease significantly from using convential tackle.
  2. That is my exact 5 weight set up and thoughts. My 7 weight is a Sage Vantage with the RLS reels. I am happy with both.
  3. Thanks guys. Mic, yeah we will have to see if we can work out a trip before the baby is due.
  4. Update: It is a no doubter. We will be having a boy and I am pumped about it.
  5. Just take along a fishing rod on your next dive. i am sure they would be totally cool with that:)
  6. I think when I go back...I might just try the run and gun game and throw some streamers...i think the fish spread out pretty easily....and there are not very many...which can make nyphing a bit difficult...and I am getting I kinda boared with nymphing. Who knows...tough place to fish..best day was 7 or 8.
  7. I have fished a Wolley Bugger on a 1/64th jig head before with some success. I have thought about tying one on a size 12 or 14 jig hook. I figure it could double for a large nymph or a small streamer that would get some depth. Out of curiousity are you thinking spinning tackle or fly tackle?

missouri beat themselves tonight. ucla is a good team and road wins are tough, but they gave this one away. they will learn from it, but 17 turnovers is gonna hurt and it did.
  9. Nicely done...looks like good times!

mizzou looked good last night. The potential is there for a great year and a deep tourney run. Pressey shot awful which is not likely to happen again. This team could be really really good
  11. It looks like the students got an A for the video. Had me fooled...pretty good stuff for a bunch of students.
  12. The pink lady (a pink/orange color) Oregan Cheese with a red dot. Orange Estaz on a hook.
  13. I have recently gone back to all Mono. Fluoro seemed to break on me all the time...no matter how careful I was when seating the knot. I am not sure if I was doing something wrong, but I doubt I will try it again.
  14. I post very few pictures. I use my phone for most stuff, and it sorta seems silly to pay for internet when I can use my phone for just about everything.
  15. I'd say the zone is something that just happens. You can't force it and you can't make it happen. It just does. It is your reward for all the hard work and time spent on the water. It is almost and out of body type experience...like you can predict what is going to happen next. When I am in my "zone" I don't necessarily think of it as intense concentration. It is more like a calm relaxed and confident feeling. I just know i am going to make that 80 foot cast between the trees, off the bluff face, under the rootwad and land a fish.

They looked good tonight and it looked easy. Granted it was a cupcake team, but still they showed their potential. I though Jabari looked fine...he will score some points...and he seemed to play within himself. I really really like the way Jankovic plays...they need to keep him in the starting lineup. Have fun at the game Al. I have been to several vs Illinois myself and it is always a good time.
  17. ha! I'll need something.
  18. Thanks for he well wishes guys. Yeah the fishing is going to take a hit, but one advantage I have is my wife spends every Sunday with her mom...like all day. My wife says "I'll take the baby don't worry you can still fish". I am not holding my breath that will actually happen, but it is nice to think about!
  19. ...to the family. Looks like the wife is pregnant and due date is end of June. This will be our first and boy or girl we are both excited. Can't wait to get him or her on the water!

I had never heard of Frank Haith so I was a bit upset when they hired him. So far....the guy has done an excellent job. This team needs offensive help and a better flow...that is a lot of pressure on Jabari Brown. MU is big and physical which actually bodes well come tourney time when teams play a bit tight. In the interim MU is going to struggle against good offensive teams until we can get our offense in sink. Boy it be real nice to have Denmon or English on the team this year. It also makes you wonder what would have happened if Bowers was not injured last year. Seems like we are one player away from making a serious splash. Let's hope Jabari Brown is that guy. Give Jankovic more playing time. Indiania and Duke both look really really good...clearly the class of the country so far.
  21. Wow...310 fish per mile does seem awfully low for the sections sampled.
  22. The Current is a bit unique in that it is managed as Blue Ribbon Trout water right outside of Montauk. So the Blue Ribbon water and the bait water border each other with no barrier between the two. It is my understanding, from previous discussions on the board, anglers can keep 4 brown trout in the trout parks as long as they are over 15 inches. When the Brown's migrate over the imaginary line (and they do) they get massacred. The local lunker boards show it. Because of the trout park loophole it actually allows more brown's to be caught. The Current is the only place I know that this is really an issue. I just think a statewide 1 brown over 18 is the way to go. Let the stocker rainbow's be eaten...not the wild ones though:)
  23. I saw some nice browns last weekend...they were not were you would excpect them to be. The fish were spooky as well..taking off like wild fish would when you got to close. One thing to remember if you are looking for Rainbows this time of year...those numbers are always down in the winter....Montauk is not stocking much. We do need rain and bad....the last flood really filled in some of the nice holes and there aren't many great hiding spot's left on the upper stretch in the low water. Pressure is definately a problem...it has been crowded everytime I have been down this year. They have to change the Brown Trout regulations to prevent them from being harvested in the bait water during the summer...it is mind boggling they don't do anything about it...what a waste. A 15 inch brown is a baby...
