Interesting I looked at the trout cam a few days ago, but don't see it on the new site either. I think water levels will be fine for fishing. I fished it last year when it was muddy and up around 4 on the gauge. It might pack fisherman even close together, but I would think it would be fishable. Just fish deep and closer to the bank out of the main current.

Just as a follow up to this topic I looked at a few policies and was able to find a few that were a little cheaper, but the differance in premiums and coverage options was not really substantial enough for me to change. If I would have needed any kind of medical care it would pretty much have been a wash. Pay now or pay later type deal. In the meantime our work has since picked up a larger percentage of our policies so I have decided to stay with the company policy for now.

I sorta don't understand your post...it kinda seems like you are bragging and bashing at the same time. I won't be at opening day, but lot's of people go for the tradition and to see old friends. Nothing crazy about that. Now the the ultra competitive ones that try to drown you to catch their limit, steal your powerbait jar for lunch, or poke holes in your waders...yeah a little crazy.

There may not be much enforcement around to catch them especially during the week or maybe they just don't enforce it much, but it is technically closed until March 1st. I think the river will be quite crowded with the park "closed."

There are a boatload of Crappie in 33. Most are small, but it is overun with them. Good luck and have fun.

Banning felt alone won't stop the spread, but it seems silly not to take precautions with the evidence we have. When I buy my next pair of wading boots I will buy something other than felt. In the meantime I will continue to clean my stuff thoroughly between uses. I am not sure I understand why many seem to be so against it. Just clean what your have and make your next purchase (when that time comes) something other than felt. Your not out any extra money and you have helped to keep your stream clean. Seems like everybody wins.

If you want to stay really close to home and only have a few hours to fish I would start to target the smaller ponds and even the urban lakes for bass and Crappie. I caught a few bass on Saturday. Busch might not be a bad choice to kill a few hours until thing's really get crankin. I think bass start getting active a little sooner than people might think and a few warms days can heat up those ponds pretty quickly. I have heard of people starting to catch crappie as well.

I chose nymphing with an indicator as well. It is the technique I am the most "proficient" with so it gets my vote. I am getting better a dry fly fishing, and while still refining and learning, it is by far my favorite.

Jigs under an indicator followed by eggs work the best for me at the Urban lakes. I fish them on the bottom. Stripping only works at night and when the wind is up a bit....otherwise forget about it. I would use Olive, Black/Yellow, or White jigs. For glo balls orange or peach has worked the best. Zebra midges work ok at times as well. It can be tough to compete with the all the power bait guys at Carondolet and that lake gets cleaned out pretty quickly. Your best bet is Forest Park before Feb 1st. Lot's of fish, C/R, and a great group of regulars. The bucket brigrade will be out in full force this weekend (no longer C/R)...so it will be a madhouse.

I wound't say they are breeding and I don't think the MDC is hiding anything, but I do think there is some evidence there maybe substantially more Mountain Lions in the state than previosly thought. The number of sightings this year would seem to substantiate this when compared to previous years. It could just be "one of those years", so we will have to wait and see what happens over the next few years.

Opending day is not really for me, but I think the tradition of it, meeting up and hanging with old friends, and maybe a little good natured combat fishing can certainly be an attraction. It probably just depends on the mindset of the anlger going in. Those utlra competetive types kinda get under my skin though!

The originial scenario happens at my "home" winter trout lake. We see the same type of guys doing the same thing. I call everytime and the agents come and hand out tickets. It is very frustrating to watch people abuse a resource that only receives limited stocking for a limited number of days. Fortunately, there are enough regulars that help "police" the area...the poacher's almost always get scared off or caught. Makes me smile every time.

Nice shot. Had that happen to me on the Meramac this year with doe and a little fawn coming down for an afternoon drink...didn't even see me until they were right on top of me...very cool.

Not to be arugmentive as each industry is different as I am certain yours and mine are but If I don't respond it could very well be life threatening for a patient in the ER. I get very few calls, but it is absolutely necessary that I respond immediately when I do. The technology offered on some phones allows me the freedom to troubleshoot and solve technical issues from anywhere. i am not paid extra, it is just part of the deal with my job. That is why I make the big bucks (ok not really). I agree that other than emergency situations phones or conversations should occur in a manner that is not disruptive to other fisherman.

Open windows with a nice warm spring breeze sounds nice to me. It was 32 degree's at lunch time and it actually felt "warm" with all the cold weather lately

Maybe, but my heating bill is always much more than my cooling bill. Bring on warm weather and longer days...I am ready for it

I like having cell phone coverage as I am on call for work so it is a must for me. With the digital age I can service our hospitals from anywhere so it allows me much more freedom and time to fish. Those times I have been called while fishing I always walk away from the stream and call the client back. I am also annoyed by people talking loudly on the stream about crap I don't care about....so I don't do it myself. If I didn't need to be plugged in I would just turn the phone off. The advantages of cell phone coverage and internet coverage far outweigh the negatives IMO.

Black and Gold is my go to jig color followed by dark Olive.

There is a new cell phone tower near Montauk so coverage on the Upper Current from Mountauk down is much improved. Not sure about coverage further down river.
