Warm-Water Season Is On
Jason R. replied to ozark trout fisher's topic in General Angling Discussion
Ive been fishing some local ponds after work lately and catching a few. You are right- my go to had been a really slow retrieve on a small beadhead wooly. Really wakes you up when a LM grabs your bugger on a 4 weight and you arent expecting it. -
Anyone need a spool for a Redington Rise 5/6? Its basically unused and is the smoke/dark grey color.

Ive heard of some guys using a rubber band to keep those things in place- I just tend to avoid them for smaller applications and go with one of the foam ball type indicators with a doubled over rubber band to keep it in place. An overhand knot absolutely creates a weak spot- thats why wind knots are no good. Put the split shot right above your tippet knot and it shouldn't slide too much- but those things are evil and will never do what you want them to. Hope that helps some.

That sounds like a sweet little rig- I just realized we were talking about a three weight- so... who cares which reel as long as it looks (and sounds) cool. -

Ive owned Lamsons, Ross's and Orvis's- the Lamson Konic is legit and you can get one for around 130- Those ross worldwides are definitely made in China and are cast aluminum- not machined- but they are a solid value. If you can find a used Lamson- like a Konic or a Radius- you can get a great reel for a good price and those lamsons are almost bulletproof. All my orvis reels are about 15 years behind as far as technology but they are well made and look good. Oh and the upper end Ross's are incredible but you may have to sell a kidney to get one. Cliff Notes- get a Lamson. -
Floatmaster Indicators

I'm a big fan of Mcballs- which I get from McClellan's Fly shop in Fayettville- they look really similar to these but they attach with a rubber band, plus they have a funny name. Ive had the same pack of five for a year or two- only bad part is you need to get new rubber bands every now and then. -
Im thinking 150$ and 75$ for the spool- The reel is brand new and I have the warranty card and all that. Its a great reel- I just don't know why I thought I needed it. Can send pics.

Im toying with selling my Redington CDL 9/10 reel. I only want to sell it because I don't get to use it very often- in fact it looks pretty much brand new. I have a spare spool too. Anyway, if anyone has any interest, let me know.

I my experience at Roaring, people get away with using pretty much anything in the flies only section- I only use flies but I definitely count foam and rubber-legs. The agents need to focus on the snaggers and the little kids throwing power bait in the wrong zones- not to mention the d-bags taking a limit back to their truck and then catching a few more. Of course, I'm an Arkansan so my fly definitions may be a little lax.

My watch lights up... I suppose it could serve the same purpose... but hey- maybe the wrist lite will catch on as a fashion item?
-
I put everything on ebay except the VT2- which is still for sale at 250$- last chance- it goes on tomorrow.
-
I honestly can think of no situation in which a wrist light is superior to a headlamp because you only need light where your head is looking... But it does look kinda cool.

Reel is sold. VT2 reduced to 250$

New- Orvis Clearwater 7Wt 9'6 4 Piece Tipflex For Sale

Bump. I decided to repost this thing and lower the price to 130$ or make an offer (I need some Christmas present funds). I have pics I can send if you need them but the thing is brand new- haven't really even taken it out of the case. -
Umpqua makes a fly called the "indicator fly"- looks pretty cool. I've used Wulffs and other big dries too- the only problem is that its obviously harder to change the depth of your dropper if you are really focused on nymphing- but if its a dry-dropper type situation, I love fishing like that. http://www.umpqua.com/p-226-indicator-fly.aspx

Well, in this case, it was even that crowded and the dude had been following me around because I was catching fish. He kept getting right up on my right side, my casting arm side, and I had to keep looking out for the guy whenever I made the tiny little cast required out there... so eventually he got a little hook in him- he wasn't that mad, he knew he had it coming. I make no apologies for the dented motor, though I admit neither action was particularly graceful.

I was fishing the white bass run on the White (well, actually a feeder creek) one day and absolutely tearing it up. Apparently, the guy in the boat 50 yards down from me with his kid noticed this and decided to literally park his boat on top of the hole I was fishing, all the while commenting, "great hole ya got here." Needless to say, I put a dent in his Mercury with a double haul and a size 4 clouser minnow right above the M-(even had to change flies after it broke on his engine). I said "oops." He moved. I caught a bunch of bass. Sometimes you have to be a little more forceful. I also hooked a particularly obnoxious guy at roaring river once on "accident"- he was just lucky I like to fish barbless. One of these days I am going to get punched in the face but some people think etiquette is just a funny foreign word just like "courtesy" or "back-cast."

I think that the Colorado Cuts are concentrated around the Colorado river on the west-southernish side of the state. I was in western colorado around Gunnison all summer and I caught a few of those little boogers in the higher altitude streams and ponds I fished. Sadly, most of the streams I fished had been all but taken over by non natives- not that I didn't enjoy catching them, but the cutthroats out there are awesome.

I really like the TMBs- but they do slip if they are near your tippet. My favorite for smaller stuff are Mcballs- which are just hard foam balls that you double your line through and stick a piece of rubber band in. I bought one pack of white ones 2 years ago and I still have 4 or 5 of them- pretty legit. Plus they float high and dont land too hard.

I like Smiths and Costas- I think their glass lenses are the best. Oakleys have awesome lenses but the styling is too X-treme for me. Smith has the most solid frames ive seen and some of the best polarization in my opinion...in fact I have an extra pair of Smiths for sale...

New- Orvis Clearwater 7Wt 9'6 4 Piece Tipflex For Sale
Jason R. posted a topic in Buy - Sell - Trade
I recently acquired this rod and I don't need it because I have an identical sage already. Looks like a great rod and all the reviews i have read are good. This thing sells new on ebay for 219$. Ill take 160$ for it. This is a great rod for bass, carp, whites, striper and especially for huckin big streamers on your local tailwater for big trout with a sinking line(which is what I like to use my sage for.) The rod comes with a cordura case with internal dividers. It looks pretty cool too. Im located in Fayetteville and Id be willing to ship the rod(usually costs about 9 bucks)or let you come pick it up. Oh and tip flex means fast action in pretentious Orvis language.
