Flysmallie Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 The really annoying thing is that the "Shufflers" know what their doing is wrong, but still do it. I was down on Saturday and noticed that there was a spin fisherman that was catching way more than me. I'm usuall in my own little world and don't pay much attention to the people around me when I'm fishing. But I noticed that there was always some splashing coming from his area and every time I looked over he was realeasing a fish. But he was casting out as far as I was casting. I was starting to doubt my own abilities until I started watching him. He would cast out, look around to make sure no one was watching, and then slowly reel in and stop his retrieve when it was right up beside him, few moves of the feet and presto fish on! Once he realized that I was closely watching him he packed it in and left. I felt what he was doing was wrong, but I don't do well with confrontation. As long as it goes well I'm okay, but If they get mad, then I get really mad. Had this happen a few times fishing bass tournaments, wasn't good. I here to enjoy myself and relax, not raise my blood pressure. Maybe the hatchery could setup a stock tank for these losers to fish out of.
Members flyfishingnewbie Posted February 15, 2006 Members Posted February 15, 2006 you know what really bothers me are rude people on taney I have had several encounters with people just walking right up to where i am fishing and start casting like I am not even there. I am not stingy at all and I will go out of my way to help anyone catch fish by telling them with what and how I am fishing. On more than one instance I have had guides take their clients right to where I am fishing ( within wispering distance) and start fishing. I had a guide who was in a boat (I was wading) row a client to a place where I was catching fish and instruct him to start casting the client kind of gave the guide a funny look like he felt uncomfortable so I just nodded at him and waded on realizing that this guy had paid money to catch fish and that there are tons of other great holes on taney. It is unfortunate that people don't all share the common understanding that most fisherman do Be Polite. I can understand if it was someone who hadn't had much experience fishing but when guides start doing it I really get aggravated. Oh well I just needed to vent a little There is absolutely no disrespect intended...but have you not ventured into our society lately???You cannot drive our streets, sit in a movie theater, enjoy a great meal at your favorite restaurant, sit in a concert, hike a remote mountain trail, or fly fish on Taneycomo without having to deal with rude, inconsiderate, disrespectful, and totally self-absorbed a****les. Unfortunately in this " it's all about me " society...I don't think things will ever quite tyhe same ever again. We lose more of our civility as a society each and every day.
Members roundtrout Posted February 15, 2006 Members Posted February 15, 2006 I don't think confrontation helps anybody. My dad used to tell me "you can always walk away". That advice has served me well over the years. I recommend it to anyone. Rude people and confrontation are probably the reason I tend to search out places nobody else is fishing, even when the fishing is a lot harder or not the species I'd prefer to pursue. I had a similar experience on Taney where a guide brought his client right to where my son and I were fishing. Fortunately for us, we were having a good day and the client seemed more interested in what was working for us than the advice the guide was giving that just didn't seem to work quite as well. He then made a big deal about getting his client into his boat rather than continue to fish from the bank, like us. Bob
MOBass Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 I gave up combat fishing awhile ago. If someone gets too close I stop fishing and watch for a bit and if they don't move along I step out and move to a fresh spot. I would rather fish alone on a poor stretch of water than fish on top of each other in a prime location. It's just fishing and no fish is worth fighting over.
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Fitz, It kind of reflects the mentality of the Outlet fishermen. It does happen unfortunately, and as someone said, it happens mostly on crowded weekends. I walked off the TU steps above 3 one day and there were fish rising against the bank right below it. I proceed to stand a foot off the bank and catch several on a Gnat, the 3 guys left there area and walked right through where I was fishing. There's no doubt that they saw me and knew I was fishing, they just didn't want go around me. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members Fozzy Posted February 15, 2006 Members Posted February 15, 2006 I'm a boat taney fisherman not a bank one first of all, but i agree there is alot of dumb and rude people in the world... However, I tend to agree, AVOID THE WEEKENDS!!! Fish during the week to avoid the crowds... However, None of us Anglers have a "I own this part of the lake all to myself card" So we have to share and try to get along. I've had boats on the lake frown at me when you are fishing around say an area where the trout are biting and say there is 15 boats congrigated in a 1/2 mile area on the lake. I just smile and say Hi how are you doing today, nice day something like that... I have just as much right to inch in there than anybody else... And me on my Cobra bass boat can use my Trolling motor to get out of the way of a boatload of First time fisherpeople in their pontoons (say they are running current in the lake that day)... I do it with a smile, cause i know they are new and aren't as experianced.... Don't have as nice of equipment as me... Yes there is some rude people, but try not to be rude back....Give it a try....They have just as much right to fish as you guys do. I also find it hard to belive at anytime walking the bank or wading you would have the lake to yourself....however, i'm not a bank fisherman so i don't know... Just playing Devils advocate
FRENZEL Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 I'd mention how well a good case of lactose intolerance works to ward off the terds out there but it backfires once you put on some waders. TRACY FRENZEL FRENZELS GUIDE SERVICE 417-699-2277 "ONE MORE CAST"
gonefishin Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Our "Me First before Anyone Else" society has became downright disgusting. What happened to everyone has rights to enjoy fishing or whatever. I think perhaps the attitudes you all are talking about started in commercialized sports. Back when I was a kid it was completly unacceptable to belittle or be rude to the opposing team. It was really pretty basic, we were taught to respect them because if they werent there then there would be no one to play so we wouldn't be there either. I believe fishing is no different. I need to respect everyones right to fish wether I agree with it or not. There are a lot of fishermen out there and the biggest part of them pay their dues to the state by purchasing licences and equipment. In turn the states spends money on the fishery because the state wants to keep the money coming in. Without 'those other people' fishing there would be less bucks and the fishery would not be what it is now. So it goes right back to the basic thing I learned in school. I better respect the opposing team because without them we all lose out. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin, 1759
Greg Posted February 16, 2006 Posted February 16, 2006 A slightly different twist on the same subject: There have been a couple of times a fellow angler has "yelled" at me for being rude when I was doing everything possible to stay out of his way. Sometimes during the fall on some Sat's it is so crowded it is a challenge to find a place to cross. Others seem to think their "space" extends hundreds of feet. These people need to give others a break! I hate it as much as anyone when someone walks right in on me within a few feet and starts fishing. There are certainly some jerks out there but some are just doing the best they can while trying to catch a few fish.
