patfish Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 I'm going to FL in July and was wondering if anyone ideas/suggestions on where and what to fish for in and around Amelia Island. Any and all input is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted March 8, 2008 Posted March 8, 2008 Hi Pat Call Feathercraft and talk to Ed. Every place I've been on vacation he seems to know some way to catch fish from the beach or whatever. SIO3
patfish Posted March 8, 2008 Author Posted March 8, 2008 Was thinking of getting a guide for a half day or whatever. Have done some research on the net. Looks like Redfish and maybe some Peacock. When I think of the places I've been (Belize and Peurto Rico to name a couple) and not fished, it sickens me. Unfortuantely, I'm not sitting on stacks of ca$h. I don't have saltwater gear. Could I use a freshwater 8wt and disassemble it and rinse it when I'm done?
snagged in outlet 3 Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 Hi again Man you were in those places and didn't fish???!!! Yeah you can fish and rinse. I understand the cash thing. The biggest problem with saltwater fishing is access. With that said, you would be surprised how good beach fishing can be. Ladyfish, redfish, blues, snook and even pompano right in the surf. Did you call Ed and those guys? SIO3
zander Posted March 9, 2008 Posted March 9, 2008 My parents lived about an hour south of Amelia Island Plantation, FL (I assume this is the same place) for several years. I think it is too far north for peacock bass. I thought they were around Miami. Snook are a pretty rare catch too there. The best thing to do is fish for reds along the canals or fish for bluefish in the surf. Many more canals than beach in that area. The fishing there lives and dies on the tide so make sure you find out when it is coming and going and fish accordingly. Also whiting are fun to catch and you can catch them in the surf as well. Bluefish and whiting are extremely good eating fish. Good luck.
patfish Posted March 9, 2008 Author Posted March 9, 2008 I knew I'd get some greif for the "not" fishing thing. We're staying with my girlfriends friend, she lives at Sawgrass, yeah I don't play golf. Suppose maybe I could fish the course ponds though. Pretty sure that's not frowned upon. I'll call Ed this week, Thanks SIO3 and Zander, preshadit.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Okay we have a serious problem here Pat. You don't fish in those exotic places and you don't play golf at Sawgrass???????!!!!!!!!!!!! I should go in your place. Early morning fishing, then mid-morning tee-time and back out for the evening bite. Just let me know when we leave. SIO3
