Micro Jigs

Recommended Posts

Hey guys I just bought some small jig heads (1/64, 1/80/ 1/100) and have been looking for ideas on the micro jigs. From what I've found they appear very simple. Am I missing something or just trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill? Also, what colors seem to work the best for those that use them. I'll fish mainly Taney and Bennett. Thanks for the help.

Sculpin, olive, brown, black, pink, white and I like purple.

Real micro jigs are put together with some kind of shrink wrap process but I'm sure the fish won't mind if they're tied with thread.

I just joined the forum a couple weeks ago So I apologize if this replay seems late.

I am more of a warm water guy myself because the trout are a four hour drive from me, but my favorite micro jig is peackock hearl. Twist the hearls with copper wire and they are very durable.

My next choice would be a toss up between black and what ever color natural rabbit is (mostly gray I suppose with some brown showing here and there).

This may not work in Tanny and Bennit because it may not be legal, but I also like to add rubber legs to these jigs too. The same kind you would find on a sponge rubber bug. The finer, the better.

The grey colored jigs (minus the rubberlegs)that are tied with a sparce tail, inch long +/-, works very well for crappie in May when they start feeding on newly hatched fry.

Good luck and don't surprized by the variety of fish you will catch.

A few months ago I think Bill Babler posted a couple pictures for me. You might to a search. It was the finished product, not the recipe.

For Bennett I would tie them in 2 patterns, one with the many suggested and some others with nothing more than a short Marabou tail reaching slightly past the hook bend. You should tie one in John Deere, green jig with a big yellow eye.

Ollie thats a good looking jig, the the jig not the tie. :D

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
