Members CBNMO Posted March 22, 2008 Members Posted March 22, 2008 I stopped at Bass Pro today and they are charging $5.49 for one 8 ounce sinker ! ! ! Or two 4 or 5 or 6 ounce sinkers for the same price ! ! ! $2.75 for a 4 ounce sinker! I asked the clerk if it was a mistake and he said no, the price of lead is up. This is also the price on the Bass Pro web site. Fin and Feather sold 6 ounce sinkers today for 89 cents each, and I think the 8 ounce were $1.09, Not $5.49 ! ! ! I called Crossroads Store, going down to Cape Fair and they were close in price with Fin and Feather Prices. They had plenty of 6 ounce sinkers but no 8 ounce today. Fin and Feather had plenty of all. Why such a big price markup at Bass Pro?
jdmidwest Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 Lead is selling for $1.20 lb. in its raw state. Probably had to ship it to China, melt it, form it, then ship it back. Diesel prices are higher than lead. Manufacturing costs. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted March 22, 2008 Root Admin Posted March 22, 2008 If anyone has any lead laying around they need to find a way to process it into weights and sell it... sell it for half what BP sells it for and make a good profit. Esp if there's a shortage of 8 oz lead. I assume it's used for snagging?
vonreed Posted March 22, 2008 Posted March 22, 2008 As everyone already knows all metal prices are high high. It's Possible that Bass Pro is just the first to raise their prices with the inflation of metal and all others will probably be raising their prices soon. It sounds like a good time to stock up while prices are cheap at some of the places.
Seth Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Man that is nuts. I just checked the local liquor store that sells snagging tackle and they sell there 8oz weights for a buck and some change.
RSBreth Posted March 23, 2008 Posted March 23, 2008 Folks here don't know that I'm a big reloader/shooter, especially revolvers. I broke out my old molds and little Lee melting pot about a year ago due to the costs of bulk bullets from a couple of local sources. It's way up, you finally are getting hit with it. Now I'm scrounging lead anywhere I can find it.

I found a tire shop that dont reuse wheel waits they throw them in buckets and sell for scrap they might sell them to you if you do bisneuss with them. I melted them on my fish cooker in a alumanum pan (smoke & stink a little) when melted clean lead will pour through all the wheel clips and whatever else may be in with it
