Ted, a great place to carp fish is Creve Couer lake. Not the main lake but the canal that runs under the Page extension. I've been bike riding there and have seen literally hundreds of them eating cottonwood fluffs.

I haven't been by car, but I think you drive down the road that goes to that Lakeside bar and walk in from there.

I've tried hundreds of presentations to carp with a fly and haven't ever gotten anything close to a pattern. Chum with corn, use a spinning rod, split shot and a scud hook. Deadly!!!

Drive up to the Golden Eagle Ferry and fish that slough along side the road. Hundreds of them.

Great Advice. I will check out Creve Couer Lake.

The best place I've found in STL is August Busch Lake #33. There is a big mud flat where they tail all the time. Hooked a few over there. I think the reason I haven't been more successful is the past two years we got a bunch of rain and I always seemed to go following a rain storm. Needless to say visibility sucked and I think that's the key to flyfishing for them. I need a hot July day with bright soon and good visibility. I think that would be the ticket.
