CMAC
Any reports to speak of?? I have only heard of a couple guys doing any good, it has to be real close for those babies to be shallow in large numbers?
Members jackaroe22677
Hey CMAC, I fished on the Gravois arm last weekend during the real cold weather, and the crappie were biting pretty steady on minnows fished about 7-8 ft under docks that have submerged brush. We caught 2 limits. Just like St. Patty's day weekend, all the fish were BIG and FAT. Best of luck on the water, Paul
vernon
Just came back today after seven days on the water at LOZ (down by the dam) and caught a whopping fourteen crappie - none after Tuesday - although I had to have set some kind of record for drum - at least fifty of em' crappie fishing and a bunch over five pounds. Small tube jigs and Road Runners drove the drum crazy but I couldn't catch a crappie to save my life. A couple of buddies came in on Thursday and caught nine or ten each in about four hours in the late afternoon to evening but virtually blanked on Friday. Except for the drum, at least the largemouth were cooperative on spinnerbaits. I love bass fishing but this is the trip that I actually look forward to just to catch a bunch of crappie. Worst spring trip for crappie that I've had there in ten years. Honestly, I think that next week will get pretty good. Just need some sun and warmer temps. But what do I know - four in a week does not constitute an expert! "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups." Â George Carlin "The only money ever wasted is money never spent." CMAC
Fished yesterday with a small group out of my boat, took some minnows just in case; good thing we did, caught a limit in the Glaize minnow dunking, small cuts in the larger creek arms were the best; did have a couple on road runners and cranks. Water temp range 52-57 by the afternoon. Most crappie were real shallow, some with very large bellys. I did hear of some reports in the Osage around Tan Tara, big shallow crappie. Members spicy mustard
Its atleast a steady bite now in the Osage arm on black and chartruse jigs. Most are very fat and are in less than 6 foot of water. Towards dark they move to the surface.
twosets
I fished from 5 to 7 Saturday evening with my son on our way back to St. Louis from Tanycomo. We were on the little niangua and caught 5 keepers and 5 short, all spread out , no particular pattern. 4 females with fairly undeveloped eggs, maybe the big bite is still to come? Anyone else?? Kyle
I was down Friday and Saturday. Limited out on Friday, released everything under 10 1/2 inches. Caught most of them in about 10 foot of water about 5-10 foot from the shore on, believe it or not, countdown crank baits. Had a good mess of fish so I decided to get out the flyrod and strip a wollybugger. That also produced. It seemed to me that they are spread out and want to chase. The guy I was fishing with did not do so well, but he was trying crappie jigs with little or no movement. Don't stay in one place too long, two or three fish out of each hole is all your are likely to get. Kept 6 on Saturday as we only fished untill 12 because of rain. Had one fish that was 13 inches. Good crappie. All arround the 14 mile marker. Kyle
