Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 27, 2008 Author Root Admin Posted April 27, 2008 Sorry Al, I kinda set you up. I visited this site you're referring to in 1978 during a retreat while attending college in Dallas. One of the human prints was inside the heal print of a 3 toed "something", can't remember the name of the beast, but it was a large print about 30 inches from tip to heal. The human print was kinda buried and sunken into the mud to where you could make it out as a print but you couldn't see the toes or the print itself clearly. BUT I took my foot and wiggled it into the print and it fit- perfectly. I could feel the toe prints and heel and arch. There were other prints... small ones and large ones. Some were kids and one was about 14 inches long. That one was on top of the mud and clear as can be. There were some that were questionable but many that were not. So, it doesn't make any difference to me what any scientist says about these human prints... I have seen and touched them and they are human- no doubt.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 27, 2008 Author Root Admin Posted April 27, 2008 Now in saying this- I am not taking on the science world and trying to over throw the system. I think as science advances, the truth will come out but what I hope for is that all scientist will have a honest and open mind on BOTH sides of this issue and admit they are wrong- because one side is wrong and the side is not.. in a nutshell.. kind of. I don't think it will change our personal beliefs about life and God... I will not even try to do that on a forum. It's not the place because it is impersonal and not based on friendship and relationship and only if you know someone would you want to live like his example. Sorry for rambling... just don't want this to become a bash session on each other's belief cause that won't accomplish a thing.
zander Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 I was going to stay out of this one but I decided to chime in anyway. I feel I am qualified to speak on it since I grew up as a preacher's kid and did work for the USDA and Oklahoma State University as a molecular biologist. It is much easier to pick one side or the other. It is easy to say "Evolution didn't happen" or "It is all random." Some of the best biochemists and molecular biologists, even ecologists, were devout Christians (actually there were quite a few Hindus, Muslims, and Buddhists I worked with as well). For me, even though I wasn't the best science mind in the dept., I could still understand how truly amazing evolution is. I also never doubted for a second how amazing God is. To me, two truths can not contradict each other. God is creative, has lots of time, evolution seems to fit. Some have said what is the use of creating (I use that term loosely) species only to have them go extinct? We can not understand everything, it may be that those extinct species had some effect on the evolution of others that are still a part of our world today. Faith and reason don't have to be dissimiliar, it is just the easiest way to make them such.
gonefishin Posted April 27, 2008 Posted April 27, 2008 Wish we could go back to the good ol days when a movie was just a movie and meant to entertain. I know there have always been political movies but they were usually easy to spot. Today it seems most movies some secret or hidden political/religious agenda imbedded in them. I think I will go fishing. I would rather be fishin'. "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch. Liberty is a well-armed lamb contesting the vote." Benjamin Franklin, 1759
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 27, 2008 Author Root Admin Posted April 27, 2008 For me personally... this debate is way down my list of things I defend as truth. I think it's interesting but I wouldn't trade a friendship over it, nor would I let it keep me from fishing with someone who has a differing opinion on this or any other subject I may see eye to eye on. Life is about more than that.

jscheetz Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Haven't seen the movie - heard both sides about it - kind of like hearing about the Al Gore flick. Regarding the evolution comments - There are two main kinds of evolutionists - Naturalistic and Theistic. The Naturalistic evolutionist believes that the earth began by natural events with no "help" from any deity - while the Theistic evolutionist believes that basically God was involved in the evolutionary process to some degree. Sort of used evolution to "build" his world. The Naturalist has to rely on the "Space plus time plus chance" method to get the ball rolling - which is in this day and age an almost indefensible position even for the most die hard athiest. But some believers realizing the concepts of adaptation within species in the natural world have come to believe in the "Theistic" way of evolution - much to the chagrin of the Bible believing community at large - due to the seemingly difficult way of rectifying the creation story of Genesis. So my point is I guess that there are some different views even within the scope of the term "evolution". Anyway - always good to chat about the important things in life. And while I have studied and preached and taught and debated many times in many countries on the Creation concept - Even with all that "head knowledge" still the one main thing that leads me to believe in a wonderful God who created beauty instead of pure chance causing it all, is to spend one day alone in the mountains wandering along a trout stream and taking the time to immerse myself totally in the wilderness. JS "We are living in the midst of a Creation that is mostly mysterious - that even when visible, is never fully imaginable". -Wendell Berry-
Danoinark Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 JS...I have to agree with you. My take...Why couldn't, by design, GOD have made the evolutionary process happen? Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 28, 2008 Author Root Admin Posted April 28, 2008 Did you notice and google ads for this topic... interesting sites to visit.
Trav Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Humans are by no means a chosen species of any higher power. We are nothing but an infestation. Evolution is just a means for the anthill to justify its being. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
