denjac Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 I have been shopping for a new bass boat. The dealers give me a price and thats it, non negotiable. Has anybody else had this set in stone policy? How much off the qouted price should I be able to go to get one? I think 10% off what they quote me is a fair offer, but they wont budge. Guess they dont want to sell boats! Any impute would be greatly appreciated. Oh buy th way I am looking at Champ and bass cat. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 22, 2008 Root Admin Posted April 22, 2008 Find a guide who needs to unload one... they can give you a great deal usually.
Wayne SW/MO Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 Have you checked with dealers, if any, in NE OK or NW AR? Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
denjac Posted April 22, 2008 Author Posted April 22, 2008 The two dealers I have talked to were in Missouri. Is there better deals south? Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Dutch Posted April 22, 2008 Posted April 22, 2008 There is normally a 20-30% mark up. If they won't deal go someplace else. The best deals are on NEW NONCURRENT rigs. Right now is the peak and they feel like they will sell a lot in the next 90 days. If you have the time, give it a couple of months and see how they respond. By the fouth of July they will be feeling the floor plan crunch and want to make a bunch of the units go away.
Brian Jones Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 The mark up depends on the boat. I am not trying to pick a fight but I think that mark up is more like 3 to 5 percent on glass boats and 10 to 12 percent on aluminum. Also understand that much of a boats price (sometimes as much as 50 to 60 percent) is in the cost of the engine.
rps Posted April 24, 2008 Posted April 24, 2008 Many dealers buy only packages - boats with specific brand and size motors and rigging. This makes negotiating even more difficult. What I finally did was to decide what combination or combinations of boat and motor would satisfy my requirements. I then put together a specification sheet and emailed it to every dealer who carried the lines within a distance I was willing to drive. I asked that they respond with a quote. The answers I received varied by nearly 20%. It costs nothing to try this. Hope this helps.
