Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 17, 2008 Root Admin Posted May 17, 2008 Last evening, Micheal and Bill did a great job talking about fishing Lake Taneycomo. Didn't have very many attend unless you count all the people down the hall in the next banquet room. But we appreciate those who did. Today's Project Healing Waters event went very well. The fish could have cooperated a but better but the weather could not- it was absolutely perfect. I think we took 13 soldiers and several staffers fishing from 10 am till 3 pm. They were more than gracious and forgiving of the slow fishing. We did catch trout though. White jigs worked early, drifting below the dam, but slowed after 11 am. We ran down to Monkey Island and drifted power eggs and caught 10 stocker rainbows. Valery, a staffer, caught her first fish... and then her second. Tim, a veteran from the camp, caught several in a row. We made several good drifts and headed back up for another try at a big rainbow. I think KSPR TV10 in Springfield will have a spot on their evening news tomorrow of the event.

patfish Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Phil, as I told you yesterday morning, it was an honor and a privledge to go out with the Veterans. What a great bunch of guys, and the stories they can tell.... whoa. We had a blast. The whole experience was awesome and one that I will never forget. Thanks for all the hard work you, your family and staff , and the guys from PHW and TU put into the day. It was first class. Aaron and I will send/post some of ours pics later. Now I have to play catch up on my duties around the house, and tomorrow its back to work. Ugh. Pat(fish)
Members Sherwood Flycaster Posted May 19, 2008 Members Posted May 19, 2008 Phil- Pat pretty much summed it up for me. Friday was the hilite of the week! Seeing those guys have a good time as they did, knowing how "experienced" they have been in serving us and our country, it was about the best thing anyone could be a part of. My partner, Sgt. Hill, had never trout fished before. And I, being the nonconformist, went against the recommended offerings for a couple reasons. First, Hill was comfortable with a baitcasting rod. As it happens, that was the tactic I had been using with success. I gave him one of my Rogues and within the first hour or so he had caught his first ever trout!- 3 total (and one that would have weighted out around 3+lbs made a jump and escaped the trebles!). After that, the rogue bite seemed to teeter off and he did attempt the white jig bite- there were no takers. After the fishing was done and the fisherman (and WOman..hehe) were lured under the pavilion for some wicked good eats. Getting to simply sit, talk, and mostly listen to these guys was just about the best part of all- a perspective and stories that we all should hear and know about. What they have been through for the sake of us all is absolutely stunning. And for that I am truly grateful and confident in knowing we have people like them serving- I gave but a day to them for the years (and more) they've been giving to us all! Thanks goes also to you, Phil- for your generosity and efforts for ALL of us- I am humbled! Aaron Hill and his first trout- Hill and I- Murph and Pat- Three-fourths of the Earth's surface is water, and one-fourth is land. It is quite clear that the good Lord intended us to spend triple the amount of time fishing as taking care of the lawn. ~Chuck Clark
Rolan Duffield Posted May 20, 2008 Posted May 20, 2008 I felt highly honored to help support these great service people. And what a great time we had. John turned out to be a very good fisherman and caught about 12 trout up to 14". He remarked to his friends that we only kept 3 for him to take home as all the others were too big. I heard a lot of "thank you's" from our guests and one of them remarked "this day was like six months of rehab for me." Makes you feel very humble for their sacrifices. I would support this anytime. A Special thanks to Phil and the Lilleys Landing team for hosting this and the great cookout to close the day. Rolan
