Fishing season has officially begun in The Ozarks. While it is by no way in full swing yet, the old familiar faces are starting to show up at The Tailrace and we are glad to see you one and all. Truman continues just shy of normal pool at 705.58 which is far better than many of our neighboring lakes. Hopefully the spring rains will come this year taking this dust down and give the COE some more water to run. They have actually been running generators a couple of hours most weekday mornings and occasionally in the evening. This has been helpful in bring the walleye up into our neck of the woods. I have started to hear of quite a few caught, more in the evening than mornings. Crappie are hit and miss as usual, with some days being real good. A few whites starting to show, but not a lot to speak of yet. Catfish have started to pick up. This time of year traditionally being the beginning of "Big Cat" time. A couple of days ago I heard Steve Brown of www.CatfishSafari.com caught one 78 lb as well as several more in the 30-40 lb. range. Locating the shad can be a bit tricky this time of year though. With the warm-up promised this week, the water temp. will be creeping up and a degree or two should really kick things in gear as far as fishing goes. So dust off the old rod and reel, clean out that tackle box and enjoy the fishing fever as you do so, for another season is upon us. See you at the Tail Race!

my sources tell me water has only been running once a week and not much then

a few smallish cats but not many shad up yet as the rule

nothing is more of a pain than a 2 + hour plus drive with no water running and no fish to be caught because the corp just not running much....

Made a run up Sunday afternoon to check things out. They were not running any water but it was not a complete bust. We caught a few whites, These 2 hybrids and my wife fowl hooked this spoonbill and yes it was promptly returned to the water. Sure was fun watching her land it on a medium action bait caster!!

Before I read and clicked the hybrid pics... I thought they were crappie!!! Man I was ready to jump in the truck and head up!

What did you catch the hybrids on?

I love fishing Truman Tailwater! Never know what you're going to catch.

LOL. Phil. I dont know if I should be insulted by you thinking they were crappie or not B) .We caught the hybrids on LARGE creek shinners. My wife and daughter both had another one break them off. By the sound of there reels they were bigger than these 2. Also saw a guy catch a couple on lucky craft pointer.Looking foward to hearing from I sent Jeremy R. an e-mail this morning. He was in OK yesterday but havent heard back from him yet. I saw the post from Vince. Sonunds like things are heating up over that way.Just got a reply from Jeremy. Looks like they caught 90 and cleaned 60. Maybe we need to meet at his house for a fish fry. :P

Caught 90 and cleaned 60 what? Whatever it was it sounds like they sure got into em. :)

I would rather be fishin'.
