drew03cmc Posted June 25, 2006 Posted June 25, 2006 Ok, I know the question is Bennett or Montauk, but I have better luck at Roaring River. It is a gorgeous drive from Monett to the park for the most park, as well as a beautiful park with the opportunity to, if you can fish deep enough, catch a real monster of a fish in most any hole. I would suggest trying Roaring River out, and yes, it is a little crowded in the morning around the whistle, but quickly clears out and you can go anywhere you want to. I have caught some fish at Bennett, but none as big or pretty as RR. Up to you, but for my $2.75/ gal, I am driving to RR. Andy
Bob A Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Hi romans, and just a litle food for thought. I fish Bennett often but mostly during the late fall season due to the crowds and associated hassles. To me, all that is needed now at Bennett is a roller coaster and a few funnel cake stands. By way of example: Last week, watched some jerk teen boy actually take his bicycle into the water at Zone 1 and try to pedal toward the dam in just a few feet of water. Needless to say, that was not a time for "tact"! A few choice words and the kid sulkingly hauled his butt out of there. The worst part was, his "dad" was fishing just downstream from this jerk kid and didnt say one word to him. Well,it's Bennett in the summertime. If I were making a significant drive to the Ozarks, I'd definately head for Montauk rather then any other park. I think in the long run you'll find the overall experience much more satisfying and far less frustrating due to the crowds, even if the drive is a little more inconvenient. You're gonna' spend some time and no doubt some money for a few days fishing. I'd go for the quality and skip Bennett. Regards, Bob A
snap Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 ....Montauk it is!!! Been to both...catch fish at both....but love the peacefulness of Montauk. I usually sleep late and start at the bottom ot the park and walk upriver towards the campground. Usually have the river pretty much to myself. May pass a few fishermen along the way...but always find a spot where fish can be caught. The campgrounds are some of the best I have ever seen...shady and near the water...miles of stream in the park and miles of stream below the park...even access to a swimming hole.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 I think Romans spring break is over by now. A report would have been a nice touch. Snagged.
