bigredbirdfan Posted July 16, 2008 Posted July 16, 2008 Sounds like a bunch of displaced beer makers or good executives (this leaves out living Buschs) could take the opportunity to start up an American Beer company similar to American Lagers now offered under foreign ownership and enjoy a pretty solid market place. Anyone have any capital? I drink lots of beer but don't make any. I guess this is also any option. You can buy take home bottles of Springfield Brew Company Beer made right here in Springtown.
bclift65706 Posted July 17, 2008 Author Posted July 17, 2008 I make some beer and wine but dont like it has the same taste of the stuff you buy at the springfield brew co. it cost around $30 to make 5 gollon the wine is good it cost about the same money to make 5 gallon of it .
Don Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 Europeans and others are taking advantage of our weak American dollar. It's bargain time to buy U.S. assets now. News reported optimistic feedback from AB employees after the CEO of inBev visited St Louis....we'll see. If there is too much slash and burn resulting in significant unemployment, we all have the option to boycott. I have no problem doing that. Don Don May I caught you a delicious bass.
bigredbirdfan Posted July 17, 2008 Posted July 17, 2008 we all have the option to boycott Don, Funny you mention that. I heard the same discussion with Big Oil companies a while back. Didn't seem to affect thier bottom lines or our price at the pump much. If something isn't done soon in America all of our assests will be foreign owned. China will have all of our latest technology and we will be nothing but a bunch of whiney losers with nobody to blame but ourselves. Also seems to me that a boycott of Chinese made goods has been going on by some families for quite a while. Folks when we are left with nothing but a boycott it is too late. Don hit it on the head weak dollar. Mostly caused by too much over spending (irregardless of party) by big government which of course we now need more of.
Trout Stalker Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 It is sad to see A-B sold. I am not a beer drinking fool and have moved over the years to micro beers. A-B was a Missouri/American ICON like St. Louis and Kansas City BBQ. I hope the employees make out ok after everything settles. Best of Luck to the employees of A-B
flyfshn Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 IMO, Busch should not have lost control of the company! His grandfather is rolling over in his grave! Fish On! Bman Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 I wish the best of luck to my fellow A-B co-workers and their families over the next year. Later, FFM FFM, And the best of luck to you and your co-workers. Hang- in. Bruce The only good line is a tight line
strangercreek Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Good posts. The beer world has seen unprecedented changes in the past couple of years for sure. Whether we like it or not, we are in a global economy for many, many reasons. Some American cars are produced in Mexico/Canada and some foreign cars are produced in America. This is now a reality for us. But it really doesn't make sense to me to "boycott" a certain American brand because shares of stock switched hands. Prior to InBev's offer, ABs largest shareholder was already overseas (Barclays UK). Anheuser-Busch, Miller and Coors products are and will always be brewed in America by Americans. Boycotting Budweiser, because of a financial transaction and a weakened dollar that even the Busch family couldn't prevent, will only hurt American employees and their families. Terrapin, well said
bigredbirdfan Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 I heard a report that the Busch family only owned 4% of outstanding shares. Sounds to me like they sold the company out long ago. I agree with the post that boycotting will only hurt the American worker. Makes my thirsty for a cold Busch right now. Gotta go.
flyfishmaster Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 We are now starting to see the A-B cost cutting right in front of our eyes. Yesterday, A-B announced that they going to close Grants Farm on weekday and only open on weekends to save on operating expenses. Here is the site to Grants Farm This really stinks because a lot of schools and day cares visit the farm during the week so they can stay away from the weekend crowd. later, FFM PS: Thank you for the kind words BMan. I pray everyday my badge will allow me to open the door so I can work. Woo Hoo Fish On!!
