oneshot Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 It may hold some in it's upper reaches but, downstream from Hwy 50, I think you'd be wasting your time. Probably from the Lamine Ca upstream would be your best bet. The water looks much better there. Yea I've caught Smallies South of 50HWY on Lamine CA. plus extra bonus you can camp there. oneshot
creek wader Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 Caught a few in Cole Camp creek, thats the first major creek East of Warsaw that feeds the Lake of Ozarks, and have a friend that said that he has caught some in the upper Gravois, that would be Southeast of Versailes, Good Luck! How far up on Cole Camp creek? I traced it on the map from LOZ up past the town of Cole Camp. Also, I agree with Drew on the Buffalo creek. It might be worth a shot. Never been to either one, though. Also, I've fished the N. Fork of the Moreau River from Tipton down past Russleville with no success on smallies, slayed largemouth though. Any more ideas out there? wader
shaker Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 The smallies that I caught were around the H highway access and that was in the springtime but it all looks good to me. I was throwing a roostertail at the time, but I would think that it would be great flyfishing, lots of pools and gravel bars and very wadeable depending on the water level of course. Its been 4 to 5 years since I've been there and remember that the first one that I caught really suprised me as I didn't have any idea that they were there, I didn't catch great numbers of them and they weren't all that big, but they sure are fun!
creek wader Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 I just might have to swing down there. It would be about a 3 hr drive for me. I know of several places down around Jeff. City. But if you drive that far, there are more popular smallie streams with in the same distance. wader
jscheetz Posted July 21, 2008 Author Posted July 21, 2008 Great replies guys! Will check a couple of these out and let you know - have a couple of potential days off this week and wouldn't you know it is supposed to storm all week! Any more finds just let me know - JS "We are living in the midst of a Creation that is mostly mysterious - that even when visible, is never fully imaginable". -Wendell Berry-
Members HillbillyJim Posted July 23, 2008 Members Posted July 23, 2008 I would second the fellow who mentioned the Sac River....I floated around in the Stockton area once, and caught quite a few nice smallies closer to the lake dam....the further we got from the dam, the less smallies, though. Vaught quite a few spots, largemouth, and sunfish to keep us busy
jscheetz Posted July 25, 2008 Author Posted July 25, 2008 Just reporting on the first reconnaisance trip I did to Big Buffalo Creek and a couple of places - I posted it with some pictures in the "other ozark waters" section. Wayne SW/MO Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 The Niangua, no doubt. I think most of the others mentioned are seasonal, and August ain't the season. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Members Oldschoolcane Posted July 28, 2008 Members Posted July 28, 2008 JS, You live on the Kansas side or Missouri? I'd be interested in knowing what you find out as I'am looking for the same water. Hope you find it. Tim
