Chief Grey Bear Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 When I speak of the government building refineries, they have to approve it, and they have not. We have not built a new refinery in over 30 years. The state of California will not allow a refinery to be built there anymore. That should not be up to the state personally. Well, just how many refineries proposals have you heard of? I can't think of any. I think that is because oil companies have been in a capacity reduction mode. They now have it just about where they want it. So now when a plant has a shut down of some type, Boom, there go the prices. And that goes back to my comment about plant updates instead closures. Why shouldn't each state have the say what is built in their state? Why should the Fed's be able to trump them? That is not the job of the Fed's? You surely wouldn't like them making the rules in your state when it comes to fishing would you? drew03cmc Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 They already do, it is called the Endangered Species Act. And, the state of California has declined to have any new refineries or storage facilities built in their state. Andy
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted July 27, 2008 Root Admin Posted July 27, 2008 Got to remember guys, there are new people active and inactive coming on the the forum all the time and have not had the chance to offer an opinion on the subject of Catch and Release. So keep that in mind when you think a subject has been hashed over and over on the forum. It's ok by me. How'd we swing into politics and oil? Not that I object.
Trav Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Sorry Trav, I edited your post, we're not going there with that statement. That's over the top. As phil says. There are people here that may not know that I am a big mouthed arrant arse. Haha. I apologize to those that feel sensitive to my conduct. Phil also says this is a place where I can debate my opinion over and over again. Haha No offense Phil, but dead horses always comes to my head when this subject is brought up. I would rather keep eating all these bottles of powerbait than to read the discussion of Catch and Release. Haha After all, most the commentary is focused on trout lately. In my opinion, Trout are easily replaced. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
Chief Grey Bear Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 How'd we swing into politics and oil? Not that I object. I don't know. I think we hijacked the thread. I think I'll give up though. I don't think I am connecting with the youngster anyway. Greg Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 How'd we swing into politics and oil? Not that I object. Dangerous subject though (politics). At work at times I've had to put a moritorium on talking about politics just because of the trouble it can cause. Guest kevinkirk Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 We got to the oil posts from talking bout the costs of going fishing and coming to Branson area/? And from commenting that MAYBE just MAYBE we are our brothers keeper. Who am I to tell anyone what to drive etc. I guess I am a citizen of the world who thinks about my children and grandchildren and what they will face if we dont get off our selfish butts and take care of EACH other for a change. The price will dictate what we drive for sure but why is that needed? Why cant we change without it being out of something. Same with fishing. The limits change with the creel assessments done by the fish and game ppl. And they wont let it get to nothing but why do we have to let it go that far? People took my blog so wrong. It wasnt about not keeping what you want. It was about maybe we get beyond the competetive spirit in the sport whereby success is measured by the size of the stringer. If you want to kill 50 geese a week, give me a call. I can put you on them any week of the season. But that doesnt mean you should. And dont go off on too many snow geese etc. its not about that. I know that. Its a comment meant to show that sometimes we do not have to take take take. But that isnt american is it. ? I dont want to cause a stir, just was looking for ppl to discuss this intelligently and with integrity about the future of the sport. I guess from the posts, we need to keep all we are entitled to each time we go so no one else gets mine. When I get moved down there, I will help you clean out the rivers and lakes as I can catch fish all day long. I just know how. (its a joke, dont go off please). I think the tournaments make us like that. Same with TV shows about fishing. Its all about production.. Whether in fishing and stringer sizes or with hunting and getting the biggest head at any costs, its all about getting the biggest for ME> I know very few ppl that know how to fish or hunt these days without the electronics and other high tech tools to shorten the skills needed and time needed in the field. Trail cams and underwater televisions make getting game so easy. Same with the high tech bows, blackpowder guns and fishing gear. 200 yard shots with a blackpowder gun takes away from the actual intent of the permit. Same with sidescan sonar, gps, television cameras, feeding areas and other things we do in order to make sure we catch fish. Enough ranting..whew..sorry. Again, the blog is for ppl who MIGHT be thinking about what THEY can do as an individual on planet earth. I guess that is just not out there.
laker67 Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 > I know very few ppl that know how to fish or hunt these days without the electronics and other high tech tools to shorten the skills needed and time Send those high tech people to t-como with a flyrod, waders, and the high water. That will humble them and bring them back to planet earth.
Guest kevinkirk Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 I know, I just got back from colorado and all the folks I was around and with could not believe how many i caught while they caught NONE. That does separate the fisherman from the techies. Fished Taney a few times with flyrod and took me awhile to get used to it but trout are trout.
