Made it down to the park on Saturday. Got there early and started in Zone 2 and stayed there the entire time. Fished below the stone arch bridge down to the bluff hole. The key on this day was to keep switching up the presentation. The action was pretty good on a red copper john early. Then switched to olive soft hackles, olive cracklebacks, cream midges, and white marabou midges. The action varied from fast to slow and everything in between. Changed to a different brand of 6X tippet today (I ran out of the fluorocarbon tippet I normally use) and snapped a few off ... especially on the soft hackles and cracklebacks. I needed to slow down a bit on the TV hookset with this tippet .... man some of those takes were bone jarring. Probably didn't help it any with the fast action rod I was using. Did take a few just before I left on a 6' 3 weight .... that was fun. Overall the weather was great (just a little shower), the human hatch wasn't too bad, the fishing was good, met up with RCGUY and Troy and his son, and had a good time. I wish I could have stayed for the evening dry action but had to head back to Paola. Anyway, I was able to take a few on top on a cream midge near the bluff hole mid morning. The water was decent .... just a little more current than the previous Sunday. PC

Had a great time as Paola cat said. Weather was GREAT. Nice and cool. I started about 15 til 10 in the morning. fished zone 2. Caught a couple on egg patterns. Caught 4 just below the bluff hole on PMD's..size 20.. about 11:00. There always seems to be some small mayfly hatch there. I love it. Afternoon met up with PC and we fished the fast water just past the bridge. Caught 2 nice ones on Primrose and pearl midge then 2 more on a black zebra midge. About 5 PC took off and my back was hurtin' so I went to zone 3 to see what was going on and maybe drift plastic worm. I drifted a worm and had one taker on a cheese colored worm. I talked to a kid that was getting one every drift. He was using a dough bait made with smashed up Cheezits and Hound dog dog food. Zone 3 is a different world. A good trip!!!

PC & RC,

Thanks for the excellent report.

The boss was down there last weekend as well but he did not fare as well as you. Looks like I need to tie up some size 20 PMD's. I'm heading down maybe Wednesday afternoon, I have some training that I have to get in before EOY.

PC do you have a pic of the midges that you used? Also what size?

Pat ... I'm thinking that the smashed up Cheezits and Hound Dog dog food might be the ticket .... LOL. I'll try to post some pics. If not, I used the standard cream midge pattern in a #20 for the dry pattern. The marabou midge pattern I used can be found at www.bigyflyco.com. I used white ones in a #18. I fished these like nymphs under an indicator and weighted them with a split shot to keep them down. PC

Please Note: Hound Dog dog food can only be purchased locally near Bennett Springs! ...I was told. I could not convince the young fellow to give me the exact location as it must be a well kept secret....kind of a "if I tell you I'll have to kill you" deal. As far as I could tell you better put the bait on the hook while standing behind a tree or the fish leap right after it. It's that good. :P

After performing exhaustive web research on Hound Dog. I've located nothing. PC

Thanks PC for the on-the-creek how-to. My son and I really appreciated your help and made our first trip to BSSP a fun time. We're hooked and headed back after Labor day. Thanks also for the red copper johns. They really saved the day last Sunday. Went from cold to hot in one cast.
