Kayser Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Gonna be stuck here in Rolla for school until May, excluding holidays, and the Little Piney is just a short drive away. Just wondering what areas I should hit. The portion at the 63 bridge looks good, and I saw a fair amount of fish in the Lane Spring Branch. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Gavin Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 Its all good...you can access the upper end a the 63 bridge, Lane Spring, and Vida Slab bridge...access below at Mill Dam Hollow, and by the Forest Service fire ring..mostly trout in that section..and you will find them everywhere there is good habitat..though its often a long way between pockets of good habitat..Access the lower LB at the high brigde in Newburg, just down the road at the Grotto Bridge or under the Bridge at I-44...mostly smallmouth in that section. Mill Creek, Spring Creek, the Roubidoux, Current, Big Piney, and Gasconade arent far away either and all are worth fishing. Have Fun!
Kayser Posted August 26, 2008 Author Posted August 26, 2008 I know, so much water, so little time. Thats why I don't have a car right now, but my friends do . I'll see what I can pull off, schedule is packed until next week. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.
jdmidwest Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 I wish I was stuck up there till spring! Lots of good water around there, teach your buddies to fish and you should not have problems finding a ride. Lane spring was always interesting, I have drove 3+ hours to fish it in the past. I have caught some nice bows there. The areas around Newburg are great too. Of course, Montauk and Upper Current River, Bennett Springs, and Meramec are close also. joeD Posted August 27, 2008 Posted August 27, 2008 Kayser- I concur with Gavin. The Little Piney should be named "Little Gem," because it is often overlooked by "serious" anglers. Any stream that holds both trout and smallies is worthy of your attention. You can fish it year 'round. If you're that close to it, then you have no excuse not to hit it hard.
Kayser Posted August 28, 2008 Author Posted August 28, 2008 Actually, I've wanted to fish it for a long time now, but I left all of my fishing (and tying) stuff at home so I could focus on studies. But I'm heading down to Bull Shoals this weekend with my parents, and theyre bringing my fly fishing stuff down for me. So I'm gonna try to get out to the creeks when I get my stuff and have time. Trying to talk my friends into a trip, but they are carless engi-nerds more interested in x-box online than fish on line. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Members UAK squirrelpie Posted August 29, 2008 Members Posted August 29, 2008 I'm a sophomore comp sci major at UMR(well at least it was still UMR this time last year). I went fishing like 9 out of 10 weekends last semester and got a 4.0 (then again I did have really easy classes). Distractions are good, they keep you sane. Rolla can drive you insane if all you do is school work.
