Guest kevinkirk Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Is there anyplace I can catch and keep little browns for stocking? Or where can you buy them? I know you can get rainbows but they are not as tough and prolific.

I'm not sure about getting browns, but I would think you could get rainbows from the Missouri Department of Conservation or private fish hatcheries that sell fish through local feed stores. My friend had trout on his farm and I will ask where they came from.

bigredbirdfan Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Is there anyplace where you can catch small browns and keep them? Like in lower taney? I dont know the regs I don't think anything below 15 inches is permitted and I'm not a big C & R guy I don't keep browns. Just want to catch more of them. Beautiful fish and great attackers and fighters.
Gavin Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 Not sure that there is a private hatchery that sells them. Check with MDC for their list of private hatcheries...If you want to catch and keep them from public waters you have to abide by the state wide regulations. Brown trout are a non-native species and bait bucket biology is usually a bad idea unless your stocking your private spring pond ..Using them as bait is a no no too. Cheers.
Troy Gregg Posted September 3, 2008 Posted September 3, 2008 I don't think anything below 15 inches is permitted and I'm not a big C & R guy I don't keep browns. Browns have a 20" length limit lakewide and I don't know of any private hatcheries that deal with Brown trout. I reckon MDC would be the best place to look for a list of private hatcheries.
