jdmidwest Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 They review the permits every 5 years. How much have costs rose in the last 5 years? That one is pretty easy to figure out. The other major impact that is affecting all that rely on sales taxes for survival. The major increase in our expenses have been in energy and fuel. Taxes collected on those products do not filter down to most government agencies. MDC relies on the sales tax collected on retail purchases. Most of our money lately has been going to necessities that we buy: -Fuel, which has a fixed tax that goes to roads. -Electric bills, wherever that money goes. -House payment, no taxes. -Food, lower tax that does not go to the MDC. -Retail purchases with the little money I have after the above is paid. This is where MDC gets the money for the budget in addition to permits. Counties and cities raise property taxes and nobody complains on here. Counties raise taxes on motels and restaurants and nobody complains on here. Counties raise taxes to pay for their needs. Missouri state sales tax has been the same 4.225 percent for a long time and MDC gets 1/8 of 1 cent of that for their needs. And they manage to stay within their budget. Yet we use the ramps, hunt the lands, catch the fish, and enjoy what they work to protect, our hunting and fishing heritage. (Chapter 144, RSMo) The state’s sales tax is imposed on the purchase price of tangible personal property or taxable service sold at retail. The 4.225 percent state sales tax is distributed into four funds to finance portions of state government – General Revenue (3.0 percent), Conservation (0.125 percent), Education (1.0 percent), and Parks/Soils (0.10 percent). Cities and counties may impose a local sales tax. Special taxing districts (such as fire districts) may also impose additional sales taxes. Generally, the department collects and distributes only state and local sales taxes. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
polock Posted October 4, 2008 Posted October 4, 2008 ya know, of the 20 years i have been fishing on current river, i have not once been stopped on the lower current and asked for proof of license. I still buy one every feb when they expire, but hell if you figure that, 20 years x $12.00 = 240.00... anyone know the fine for fishing without a license in Missouri lol cause it seems like it would be cheaper to take your chances not that i ever would cause i do fish upper current and lakes that might do checks more often.
Flysmallie Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 anyone know the fine for fishing without a license in Missouri lol cause it seems like it would be cheaper to take your chances Several years ago it was $50. My dad found out the hard way. And the dumb thing was he had just forgot to re-new his. He had a current non-resident license for Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas & Mexico (yeah he fishes a lot) but they still didn't let it slide. Cost him $50 and I had to quit fishing and drive him to a marina so he could get his Missouri license. He has a lifetime now, so he's good to go.
fly2fish Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I pose the question to everyone who has posted here. What is too much??? It is cheaper than 1 hour of professional therapy (not that I have ever been to one) and I get a physical workout as well. Also had the seafood bufftet at the Beach House on the way down Friday night cost: $41. So there is a lot of things a person could do without just one time and pay for a license if they really want to fish. If they don't fish enough to justify the cost of a year license then just buy the daily license for those 1-5 days a year they are going to fish. HC
