zsmith62 Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 Kevin- there are a plenty of MDC properties to hunt on around here. During bow season, I'll go for the first one I see, but I'm gunning for a buck during rifle season. This will be my first year for muzzleloader season, since I got a traditions .50 cal. hawken last year, so i'm not really sure what i'll take first. Zach Smith
flyfshn Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I shoot the first deer I see. I mainly hunt for meat for the freezer. Not big on trophy hunting, but dont get me wrong, I would be very excited to see one. The new restrictions having 4 on one side should help the trophy hunters. Fish On! bclift65706 Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I would like to see the 4 point on 1 side state wide but at the same time would like to be able to shoot the spikes If a buck is olny a spike the first year it will not ever make mutch of a deer is what I have been told I can almost believe it I have shot some 2 year old spikikes that had 14 in spikes. I stuck a little deer yesterday evening made a bad shot ran away searched for 3 hours never did find it .kind of sucks but it is the first to get away in a couple of years.
Seth Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 I shoot the first deer I get the chance at with my bow to keep my archery kill streak alive and also to get meat in the freezer since we are usually always out by Sept. 15. After I take my first doe, then I'll hunt horns up until gun season. After gun season starts I just shoot whatever comes close enough to fill the freezer.
oneshot Posted October 8, 2008 Posted October 8, 2008 my fovorite deer is the one that just lost its spots about the size of a german shepard Yea just about Grill size.I have to admit the smallest one I ever seen shot weighed 17 pounds field dressed I said dang I kill Turkeys bigger than that. Cold hearted I know but population controll is a must around here had a group of 13 now 8 needs to go to 5 got another group of 26 needs to be reduced by half a group of 14 needs to be cut in half and the last group of 12 needs killed to. I killed 8 myself lastyear and this year ther is 12 more than last year.keep in mind all of these deer are does and fawns havent seen any good bucks in a long time mainley spikes and they need killed too. I dont waste them I never kill anythin I dont intend to eat and the share the harvest program is a great program. PETA would love this
Members fisher19 Posted October 9, 2008 Members Posted October 9, 2008 I shoot the first deer I see with my bow, that way i have meat in the freezer and it gets my confidence up. But when it comes to rifle season its a differnt story.
Members sportshop Posted October 20, 2008 Members Posted October 20, 2008 daughter gets first shot, as we sit together, last year 2 does came up as she was ready to pop the 2nd, ( it was bigger) 10 pointer came in behind and shooting for taste went out the window, it now hangs in her livingroom, but yes the first usually goes down.
denjac Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 During gun season I let some pass and enjoy the full hunting season. One deer is all I kill as that is all we can eat and have room for. Sometimes the passing up can cause a no kill but still enjoy it. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Members Jon Posted November 3, 2008 Members Posted November 3, 2008 I like to sit for a few hours just to see what shows up. I have plenty of deer in my hunting area, so bagging a deer of either sex is not hard. I like to enjoy nature thats around and after shooting the first deer that comes along, it ends the day to soon. So I wait .................. Jon.
