We camped at Tablerock State Park this weekend and since there were 4 units running we took the opportunity to check out RR for the first time. We got stuck behind 3 church buses on the way down and it took nearly an hour and a half to get there. It's a pretty park but we unknowingly hit the derby weekend so it was busy.

I fished zone 2 and never took off the crackleback I started with. Fished from 11AM till 2PM and did well. Not as many fish as the other parks but they were cooperative. Saw some nicer fish up in the swimming area below the bridge but they were interested in spawning, not eating. Left them alone and fished the middle section, moving constantly. There were fish rising everywhere and if you got it in the right drift they would take it. Also had some come off the bottom and really whack it. Fun day and beautiful weather.

Thanks for the report, I'll have to head down that way. There are some big fish there. That's nice when you don't have to change flies continually to get some hits. Too bad about the slow trip. Some great views in that area.

The slow trip allowed us to sight see and drink coffee. The upper section by the store was almost shoulder to shoulder. RR is not open for CnR in the winter?

Glad I went. I've fished the other parks for 45 years and this was the first trip to RR. If it was closer I would go more often.

Roaring River is open during the winter, that is some of the best fishing over here.

C&R should start on the 14th of nov. and it is open fri. , sat. sun. and mondays.

Thru till the second full weekend in feb.

Fishing hours in the winter are 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.

Winter fishing is what a lot of us wait for, very few people and lots of big fish, and the dry fly

fishing is good most of the winter.

I apologize. The guy at the counter said fishing closed Oct 31 but he probably meant regular season I'm sure. I did think it was strange that only RR was closed for the winter. I bet it's good, as are all the other parks in the winter.

On another note. The guy behind the counter was real nice. He saw me staring at the map and offered help. Asked how we like to fish and I told him fly fish and he sent me to zone 2. But he also said you could flyfish anywhere in the park. Real nice!!

My friend and I were there last Tuesday afternoon (also got blown off the water at Taney) and did well in Zone 2 on the crackle back, brown San Juan worms, tan elk hair caddis and zebra midges. Your choice...All were producing. Nothing big, but several nice, healthy fish.

Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to

watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly

know everything there is to be known.
