Members Crappie Fisherman Posted October 26, 2008 Members Posted October 26, 2008 Has anyone been finding any bluegill or crappie around the main lake area?
mmirg Posted October 27, 2008 Posted October 27, 2008 We have caught a few crappie/bluegills around Cape Fair. The crappies are in (or have been before this colder weather hit) 15'-25' of water around structure. Look for steep banks/bluffs. We were getting crappies on minnows with no jig just a hook. You will probably pick up a bunch of little LMB's doing this too, pesky little minnow wasters! The bluegills are in the same place, use pieces of night crawler fished in the same structure, just jig it through the tree limbs and get ready to tie on alot of hooks. Hope this helps and good luck, mmirg.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted October 27, 2008 Root Admin Posted October 27, 2008 Some guys fished Cricket/Long Creek Saturday and didn't do any good at all. They fished for crappie exclusively.
Fishing Buddy Don House Posted October 27, 2008 Fishing Buddy Posted October 27, 2008 The ONLY time I have heard of the Crappie was two weeks ago on the bluff walls by Hwy 86 Bridge and the Del Monco resort. Had one guy with a limit everyday for three days. By the time I got over there they were gone, manage to catch just two, in the trees at 25 feet on the bluff walls with minnows and worms. Besides that very poor year for them. BlueGill well they are everywhere crickets on the deep water docks all over the main lake.. Just wait for Spring I think this 2009 will be Great for those little silver guys. Good Fishing Don Capt. Just drown some crickets in the coves do it? Rich Looten Springfield, Missouri "If people don't occasionally walk away from you shaking their heads, you're doing something wrong."- John Gierach

Yes crickets or even nightcrawlers work just fine.. I have been finding them on the bigger main lake wave docks and main lake house boat docks. Just drop them down about 15 feet and there you go.. Go have some fun, small and larger ones mixed in along with a few goggle eyes as well.. Good Fishing Don Capt. techo Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Please please please catch as many bluegill as you want. Almost any cove with trees along the banks will house the little buggers. The Cow Coves are full of them. I am weary of them eating my grub tails. Tim Carpenter
