denjac Posted November 7, 2008 Posted November 7, 2008 My 150 merc has started doing that alot. When it happens I change the fuel/water filter and it stops. Ethanol has been a flop. Too many things have suffered because of it. Grain prices, cattle, ect. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. Wayne SW/MO Posted July 6, 2009 Posted July 6, 2009 I've spent a fortune on my 4 stroke Merc since I've had to put ethanol in it. I've had my carbs rebuilt twice and it needs it again. I didn't take it out last year. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Mark Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I've spent a fortune on my 4 stroke Merc since I've had to put ethanol in it. I've had my carbs rebuilt twice and it needs it again. I didn't take it out last year. I was having the same problem with my little 2.5 HP Mercury - stalling out and not running at idle speed. I took it to my mechanic and he knew immediately what the problem was - ethanol gas will clog up the tiny fuel lineswith a gummy residue. Had repairs done and haven't had a problem since then. Figure I am just going to have to change fuel lines every couple years.
