dtrs5kprs Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 Have been following the Stren results online with great interest, as I am leaving for Kimberling Thursday. Looks like they hit the windy day bite at the right time. To me, it would have been a much more interesting event with high skies and flat water, but probably not as much of a showcase for the blacks. From the articles, seems a lot of anglers are surprised by where the fish are located, crankbait bite, etc. Is that likely due to the lake being high most of the year? One description in particular struck me, about catching fish on ledge rock, spring banks...seems like that stuff is usually high and dry at 910' in the fall.
techo Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 It seems to me that a variety of methods are working. It is kind of area specific that some guys claim to be catching them real deep in 30 feet of water. To most Table Rock guys, that is fairly shallow. Unless they are suspended at 30 feet in deep water. This year seems to have been a shallow year for me. Tim Carpenter
Flysmallie Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Well here is the winner. David Curtis weighed in a 5 fish limit, 22 pounds 12 ounces. A lot of these guys were talking about how shallow the fish had moved throughout the week. Iaconelli said that he caught the majority of fish in 2 feet of water today. Greg Bohannan had a 20 pound 6 ounce limit that he caught on a buzzbait! I would have never thought that today would have been a good day for a buzzbait.
dtrs5kprs Posted November 12, 2008 Author Posted November 12, 2008 That buzzbait can sneak up on you when it is nasty, although I've done better with it at LOZ than Table Rock. Still would have enjoyed seeing all the boats out deep dealing with high skies, spoons and drop shot. Of course that assumes no one would find shallow fish. How fortunate we are to be able to fish this lake, and have access to as many fish as it holds, given the not too distant history.
Members billyjunk Posted November 12, 2008 Members Posted November 12, 2008 I agree about the high skies. Looks as tho they did have it pretty tough the first 3 days. I can attest to the shallow bite. Went out Mon and Tues and caught a lot of nice fish in a foot to two feet of water on the spinner bait.

CaptainJoe Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 I was in Ike's boat on the final day as his cameraman and observer. We did have an extremely cold and windy day. Yes, he caught 4 of his 5 keepers in shallow water; however, he did not figure out that they were shallow until the last hour of the tournament. He wished that he figured it out sooner, which he predicted would have changed his finish. It was a great experience and Ike was thrilled that via this tournament that he qualified for the Forrest Wood Cup next Summer in my hometown: Pittsburgh, PA.
