Murdoc Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 All I can say is YEA!!! My favorite time of year is findly here! The weather was great the temp was good until noon. My first fish after the horn was a beautiful 5lb bow. What a way to start! I saw a very nice fish in the pool and the gentleman standing next to me threw a huge meps spinner at him and wam!! Very nice 8lb fish!! I met a lot of very nice people. I saw a lot of very figity people there also!! NO PORT-A-POTS till noon!!!! I think I hurt myself!!! I know a little to much info!! I walked around a lot and saw a lot of nice fish up above. Went down below and didn't see too many. Saw Tim looking for the big fish. When the rain started about 11 the river was empty! Everyone left at once. I stayed and then a few people came back with their rain suits. Wonderful day even with the rain!!! Smiles are free http://rdpflyrods.com/
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 15, 2008 Root Admin Posted November 15, 2008 I made the trip, met the Steve and the guys around 7 am and chatted till the horn blew. Caught a bunch of small rainbows on several patterns- san juan, zebra #14 black, olive and red, a #22 thread midge and a #14 olive elk hair caddis- that was the most fun. Steve said he'd never caught a trout at RR on a caddis. Here's a pic of our group. You guys will have to fill in the names- I'm not good with them. I pasted myself in- I told the guys I would. Took some video of Roaring River- had to hurry at the end cause the rain was coming in fast. Caught Ollie on tape holding up and releasing a nice rainbow. You can see the video on the new Roaring River Homepage on OA. Also under videos, also on the front page, is a video I did at Crane Creek. I stopped there on the way back.
Tightline Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 It was my first time to fish C & R season ,had a great time, caught a bunch of fish, just no big ones. Had 1 rainbow that was 21 inchs and the rest were all 12-14. Funny thing was I walked through before the horn and scouted the upper half and didn't see very many big fish at all.But as I fished from south to north they started showing up. The rain came hard at about 11:00, ran to my truck to get my rain suit, fished another hour and left. Met and talked to alot of very nice fisherman, seen Tim,and also a truck with RDP rods on the back, which must have been Murdocs. Had fun, can't wait to go back!!
Dawgsquat Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 I'm the guy in the pic with the Green Bay hoodie on (second from right). Had a great time and enjoyed meeting all you nice folks. The chow was great and the fishing too. I guess I got in about 3 hours of fishing before the rain and cold made me quit. I caught 2 bows on a Griffith's gnat and 6 more on a crackleback. No big ones but they were all fun to catch. Thanks for inviting me Dano. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.
ollie Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 It was another great opening for C&R at Roaring. I wasn't able to get there until around 9:00 so I missed out meeting most of you. I did meet Phil and talked to him for a little bit, that was nice. I guess I ended up catching around 15 before I left for the house. After that cold hard rain I stayed around for a little while longer, but finally got too wet and cold even for me. I was targeting bigger fish all morning and caught two decent ones, but none over 20" this time. My biggest for the day was around 18". I caught all mine on a ginger colored jig in 1/32. "you can always beat the keeper, but you can never beat the post" There are only three things in life that are certain : death, taxes, and the wind blowing at Capps Creek!
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted November 15, 2008 Root Admin Posted November 15, 2008 Ollie's in the video- so is his jig.
Dawgsquat Posted November 15, 2008 Posted November 15, 2008 I'll add a few pics I took. It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.
Flysmallie Posted November 16, 2008 Posted November 16, 2008 We didn't get there until about 1pm. Missed breakfast, missed lunch but I did get to see a few of you for a few minutes hiding from the rain! We fissed to the horn and ended up with around 30 fish between us. Fished the upper end and 90% of our fish came on a SJ worm. I had two nice fish a 21" & a 23" both came on the worm. Saw some really nice fish and I can't wait to get back.
