Members Doug Weston Posted December 15, 2008 Members Posted December 15, 2008 Before you say it, I'll tell you that it may seem wierd, but it works. With the cold weather upon us I thought I would pass along this old trick for keeping your feet warm. Usually your feet will sweat when you are on them, and either have multiple pair of socks, or insulated boots. This causes your socks to get soaked and eventually your feet get very cold. A simple solution is to put antiperspirant deodorant on your feet before you put your socks on. It must be antiperspirant, not just deodorant. The best kind is usually the white stuff. just rub it all over your feet, including between your toes and you will be amazed at how it works. I know, I know, you feel stupid doing it the first time. I guarantee, that you won't care how stupid you feel after you try it. It also helps prevent blisters on long ruck marches, even better than foot powder, for that same reason. This helps the little tikes as well, and if you are like me I am trying to get my kids involved in the outdoors. It makes the experience more enjoyable for them when they are more comfortable and they want to go out again with dad! Let me know when you are suprised at how well it works.... JDC Baits

Members Doug Weston Posted December 16, 2008 Author Members Posted December 16, 2008 actually keeping your head and neck warm will help keep your feet warm too. Your body will throttle down your blood to the extremities when your body temp goes down. Your main arteries suppling blood to your brain are fairly close to the surface, so they can cool down when not covered up. if you keep your neck covered, then you will get more blood to your feet... Terry Beeson Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Reasonable to assume it will work. I've heard about this a long time ago, but had forgotten about it. Think it was in my smart-aleck cynical days way in the past.... (Who says "What do you mean 'the past?" techo Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 My Grandfather always told me to make sure I wore a hat so my feet didn't get cold. We always laughed, but I can't ever remember him being wrong. I should have paid a whole lot more attention to the wisdom he shared. Wish he was here to teach me more. Tim Carpenter
Tom Spence Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 I was curious so I gave it a try. It wasn't an overly cold day (about 40) but my feet get cold pretty easy. Anyway, I think it worked. I didn't notice my feet getting cold all day and they didn't sweat. Tom Spence Champion Boats http://championboats.com Luck E Strike USA http://martyconradfishing.com
gonefishin Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 My uncle taught me the anti-perspireant trick a long time ago and it does help. My feet sweat a lot and get really cold. It may seem counter productive but adding more insulation tends to make matters worse. Hotter feet = more sweat. Over the years I have found wearing shoes that can breath a little helps a lot. Kind of hard to do when you are in snow or around water, in that situation there is nothing I have found that works better than Goretex shoes/boots. I would rather be fishin'. Members DENorman Posted January 1, 2009 Members Posted January 1, 2009 My feet get cold easy, and over the years have finally figured out what works for me. It's simply a good pair of wool socks (85%+ wool), even if your feet sweat alot. They out perform any thing else I've tried. I also use Toasti Toes, (next best thing since sliced bread) the ones with adhesive as they are flater and stay where you out them.
