oneshot Posted December 25, 2008 Posted December 25, 2008 I'm thinking of a way to target Buffalo.Would a Small Straight hook baited with Cheese work? Also would it be worth my time fishing for Buffalo and Carp this time of year? oneshot
Kayser Posted December 27, 2008 Posted December 27, 2008 I made a type of extremely salty doughbait and sight fished for feeding buffalo in Lake of the Ozarks with decent success. Rough fish are pretty much shut down this time of year, you'd be better off waiting for summer to roll around. July is my favorite time for carp, but I don't know when they start biting. Rob WARNING!! Comments to be interpreted at own risk. Time spent fishing is never wasted.

Rob Rob I use asweet Dough Bait that works good. But have problems keeping it on a Small Hook,so I miss alot of Buffalo. I usually fish Pomme De Terre.May is good. oneshot
MoCarp Posted December 29, 2008 Posted December 29, 2008 late feb below truman dam....use a paste made from a handfull of calf manna pellets and a can of english sweet peas blended into porage soften the manna with a touch of boiling water mix.....then ad soy flour until dough use on a hair rigged spring for chum in a 5 gallon bucket pour 3 pound box of rolled oats "not oat meal" the add a 1 pound box of oat meal 1 table spoon koser salt to this mix 2 cans of cream style corn and one of whole bag of frozen peas "set out over night to thaw" if its dry add more cream corn, keep the lid on tight it should make a ball that will break down and get them feeding the way to fish it is squeaze it around your sinker...it will break off in a nice pile near you hook...in winter only toss out one or two balls to get them started as they can get over fed easy in cold weather...as it warms I have been know to chumm 2 or three 5 gallon buckets full enjoy MONKEYS? what monkeys?
Bill B. Posted December 31, 2008 Posted December 31, 2008 Right now, below Truman dam, you can catch plenty of big buffalo on the generator side, right below the keep-out fence. Jigs or spoons either one will work. They stack up right there, whenever there is generation in the winter. Looks like the Corps is running 32,000 cfs today.

Sounds good.If they are running some water should see other fish biting too. oneshot
Wayne SW/MO Posted January 1, 2009 Posted January 1, 2009 I would slow down oneshot, carp and buffs slow down just like other warm water fish. While carp can tolerate colder water, they still don't need as much fuel. Buffs are very picky and hard to hook on doughbait, but its still the best bait. Do a search on "Hair Rigs", using them will help with the hook ups. I would try something like a Repala X-rap and work it slow in the current. They should catch anything that might be swimming below Truman. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
